For me, it's more fun to drive and race with the stock tires. Faster is not always better. A bone-stock 440 X2 has to be 'driven' more. You can't just blast around any corner or section of track without working the throttle. If you really want something challenging, but equally rewarding, try the old Tyco HP7 in stock form. You can powerslide them off the corners, and it's a hoot!

@Joe Cassidy I drift stock 440X2 Porsche 935 with all the magnets in place on stock tires. Right on the edge. Have to say I think the HP7 might be the worst chassis design ever. Not even referring to performance, it's just plain junk. Even an older HP2 is better. I like slot cars whether they are fast or slow, both have a place, but poor design or poor quality just doesn't cut it. Want slow? Go with old Aurora, whatever chassis. At least you got a quality piece. Wanna sort through junk and try to get something running halfway decent? Buy Autoworld. Not knocking the bodies though, most of 'em are good or great. Can run any slot car slow, just lower the voltage. Any kind of chassis one likes is available. Jag Hobbies, Viper, BSRT, Bulldog and more. Magnet cars, non-mag, fast, slow, whatever you want. HP7s are just plain not worth a quarter. Only thing good about them is the front axle assembly fits the wide pan 440X2 chassis.

Love your functional solution. Might be cool with two doors ganged together too, if you have the space. It might be a stupid idea... but... I’m willing to bet if you drill a couple small holes in the door side then fill with cheap expanding foam, the door table will quiet right down.

I have thought of doing that. In the past i cut open a hollow core door and there is cardboard standing on edge , the thickness of the door. That cardboard prevents the door "skin" from flexing or being spongy to the touch. So ..there are pockets created ..kind of like a honeycomb. A few dozen holes and keeping in mind less is more.

Planning to expand the set and pick up some new cars. It's been over three decades since I put my slot cars up for the real thing. Time to get back to them! I found a camaro ss on ebay. Planning on cleaning it up and giving it a paint job to match the RS/SS sitting in the garage. Keep up the great content and thank you.

So, 2 years after the video I would like to suggest that gel claws aren't bad but try Super Tires sometime. They are the best. Especially the Pro Series Urethane version. They have a radiused sidewall like real tires so they look great, are available in a range of sizes so you can adjust to rail height and magnet strength and they are extremely hard to damage or tear in use. Even their standard series in a silicone compound is considered the best on the market. Tyco did put silicone tires on some cars in cliff hanger sets. Most if not all the blue/red/pink chrome Lamborghini cars had them. Better than the usual 440/440X2 tires.

I have not, but will try to get that done soon. Not sure what you mean by "pro-level" cars. I often recomend Wizzard storm cars as a great bang for the buck. About $39.00 shipped to your door. (A ebay search will bring them up) I also really like the Viper V-spec chassis. Based off the AFX super G-plus chassis. If you want even more performance / speed the poly mod, also from Vipe is an awesome chassis, but you will need to upgrade controllers and power supply, I you haven't done so already. 🏁wizzard storm www.ebay.com/itm/385102828530?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=55XLJxKkSU-&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=KexRSwk6TLK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Viper V-spec & poly-mods viperscaleracing.com/

Tks for stopping bye and leaving a comment. There are parts that wear on all slot cars, pickup shoes, brushes and tires will all eventually need replacement. How fast they need maintenance depends on how many hours they are run and sometime things like if they are run on carpet or a dusty are Luke a basement perhaps.
