I've always wanted to dread my mohawk but my hair doesn't grow anymore due to medication I'm on for my infusion treatments. I've been looking at synthetic dreads to achieve what I want. I love this video.

In 1983 heb ik met een vriend ingesponnen schapenwol gekocht ergens in een wolwinkeltje in de Jordaan. We hadden op mtv George boy gezien en anderen en wilde dit ook. We hebben toen dikke en dunnen haarstrengen gemaakt en bovenop begonnen met dikkere die we inmijnden met bissonkit. We wisten geen andere manier en internet bestond nog niet. Aan de zijkant en voorkant dunne strengen en bij elkaar tientallen strengen. Uren bezig geweest maar het resultaat was fantastisch. Soms trokken mensen er wel eens aan maar het liet niet los en hoorde dan zeggen, owh het is geen pruik , het is echt!

Leuk om te zien dat er nog Dreadlock Mohawke mensen zijn :)

He's Gorgeous! It's amazing dreads are becoming Universal since there's African-Americans who had to cut their dreads just to go to school or get a job.

I loved his dreads. I have a platinum Mohawk & I want to get dread like his but with either red mixed in or lavender. I don't want anything to heavy but I do want texture, wraps & jewelry. As for length mid back or armpit length. I live in Ottawa Canada & unfortunately, you don't have anyone here that could install them for me. My thumbnail was a pic showing how I would look with dreads & I loved it & want them. Advice please because I love your locks of Love ❤️

Awesome! I just had a question if anyone might be able to answer. If you have synthetic dreads on, what happens after a couple months when your natural hair grows? I would think that it would need to be redone

Hi Miguel, yes you're right, after a couple of months, you need to take the dreads out. Wash your hair, brush out all the loose hairs and of course it's possible to redo/reinstall them again. We've got a lot of info on our website as well. Just head to dreadshop.com

New to dreads. In order to get this look I'd have to grow out a mowhaek correct and if so how long would it have to be before I attempted to have this done? Also hiw long can I keep them in for and any other tips would be highly appreciated.

Hey I've kind of dug the idea of synthetic dreads for a while, but I've been unsure of where to start. I have rather thick hair cut in an undercut similar to that worn by Ragnar on the first season of Vikings. I tend to wear it in a ponytail or braid most of the time, but were I to add synthetic dreads to the mix, how would I do so? micro-locs seem like a good idea since when my hair is braided I like to keep the braids fairly thin, but I worry about it creating problems with both how thick my hair is and the unfortunate fact that I get a lot of large flakes of dandruff especially in the summer and winter, made worse by the fact that I have vitiligo. For people with sensitive skin can synthetic dreadlocks create problems?

Hi! great to hear you want to try synthetic dreads! When you have a sensitive skin you can still wear dreads. You can experience some itch in the first couple of weeks, you can use a Conditioning or Refreshening spray to help ease the itch. After a couple of weeks the worst itchiness will be over. It can sometimes happen that people have an allergic reaction to the synthetic material. What can also help is soaking the dreads in a mixture of warm water and apple cider vinegar for half an hour, before you braid them in, this removes a layer that can cause itch. I would recommend not braiding them in too close to your scalp, so that the dreads are not so tight against your scalp. If you have flakes of dandruff it could be your scalp is a bit dry, a Conditioning or Hydrating Oil can help to hydrate your scalp, this helps to prevent dandruff. A Rescue Tonic can also help a troubled scalp. I hope this helps you! :)

Yes, you can! Either use a special spray shampoo or otherwise be sure to rinse out your shampoo really well!

How do you suggest installation on short hair?

I have this idea for a dread hairstyle I haven't seen yet. Its similar to this but with a full head of hair. I'll be trying it out as soon as I can but I figured I'd put the idea out there if anyone else wanted to try it. Its for people who don't want to commit to shaving the side of their head to get a dreaded mohawk and for people who don't have the time or patience to install a full head of dreads. I was thinking you could braid the sides of your head (like in the faux side shave tutorials) and then in the middle you could have your dreads. I would love to try this idea and I hope maybe someone else tries it!

To clarify, they are Dutch and they switched from english to Dutch. He says "Ik ben echt heel blij" which means "I am very happy". I do understand why you though he said it. If I didn't know Dutch myself, I would think he said that too haha

Hi Jordi, if you have a mohawk, you'll probably need about 3 packs of dreads. The thick dreads contain 6 dreads per pack, the thin dreads 12 a pack. So it depends on which dread you choose :)
