Looks like a Topek handlebar water bottle mount might work better. It has a steel band that tightens around the handle bar down to 22mm. The boss the bottle cage mounts to looks fairly wide and flat. Outdoor grade double faced mounting tape to the quarter turn mount would look finished. Cable ties would also work with this. Could also trim off the bosses to the shape of the quarter turn mount.

I'm a "Rainy Dane") 😄I am now an owner of a "Garmin Explore", for the map inside (I don't care about making Tele Companies richer than necessary), but I have changed ny handlebar bolt into titanium, and with a special "GoPro holder-system" for the bolt, which may be doubled several times, also for lamps! I'm facing the same problem now and thanks for the idea in your video. Instead of putting 2 elastic bands at each side of the mount, I'm thinking of removing the handlebar and insert one elastic band into the stem and thereafter using it to secure the mount. Do you think that can work?

Can you use a tire tube to give you enough filling to attach to the bar itself? I have done this with problem mounts and had success yet the folding would make. You place it in the correct place and test folding. ???

Would you spoil the look of my bike with an inner tube? You amaze me. I might try a tubeless tyre which of course is no good for anything else.

@@JulianHutchings No you don’t even see the tube, it fills the gap so you can put on the clamp need a 23mm old type or hand cut the tube,,, I agree you want the bike to look perfect. I have used these and you do not even see the tube filler wrapped neatly around the bar.

The o-rings will stretch according to Hooke's Law up to a certain point, then you can simply approximate how much using Lo=Ln/(1 + (F / (E*A) ))

You missed off the final bracket - without that they always break.

You'll need to get a 3-D printer to create a more elegant solution. Then submit it to GCN's hacks and bridges.😋
