More like Breaking people's wallets with repair fees for scratched lenses - since you market this as ACTION CAM and IT IS NOT. $99 repair (on the X2 - probably more for the X4) - and at LEAST 8 WEEKS of waiting between their horrible customer service and shipping back and fourth from CHINA. I know - because I have had to do it 3 TIMES! my mind blowing ACTION = SLEDDING - NOT SNOWBOARDING - down a small hill and dropping the selfie stick in the snow - ONCE. SCRATCH. $99 - 8 Weeks later - WALKING in a trail, camera falls out of bag - SCRATCH - RUINED - $99 - 8 Weeks later - camera is on a golf cart and gets close to some leaves on a tree - SCRATCH - RUINED - $99 - 8 Weeks later - I put the camera on a shelf and now it doesnt get scratched at ALL! The action is AMAZING from that shelf! Def. BLOWING MINDS!

@@PiecesofVinyl - I noticed they released some new lens covers and new way to attach those lens covers. Seems helpful. I might go broke buying those little lens covers but it sounds better than your experience. (Premium Lens Guards $34.99 😬)

@@PiecesofVinylsounds like you should stay away from 360 cameras. As for the rest of us, I have had my x3 for nearly two years and no scratches. Yes, accidents can happen, but why blame insta360 for them? Currently, it seems they do repairs now in Irvine, CA.

Thanks for sharing, Dave! Indeed I’m in the market for a 360 cam for cycling, to document cars overtaking at danger-close distances. Which actually is illegal for some time now, since lawmakers have specified minimum distance from handlebars.

Going to Canada this summer to do some riding in the Canadian Rockies. I don't currently have an action camera, but I've considered one in the past, and the amazing features that this one looks like it's got have got me really strongly consider picking one up before I go. It looks pretty amazing. Great video as always.

Thanks for all the amazing content you share 🎉 I wanted to ask you where and how you store the selfie stick when you run. I’ve been using a Go 3 for the occasional video and it’s awesome because I can keep it anywhere and take it out for the few seconds of video that I need before putting it back, but I haven’t even bought a stick because I fear it will get in the middle more than it will help me frame. Is it really comfortable to store it in a hydration belt or vest? Are there any alternatives that I’m missing? Thanks for your time answering this ❤

I usually stick mine in the back pouch of my hydration vest during long races. For typical training runs I just carry it in my hand the whole time.

Can you export from apple watch ultra 2 those speed,heart rates etc when editing in insta360 studio in pc or are those apple/garmin ad ons only valid for phone use?

I’d love a trade in option in the uk ??? but I don’t think they do it ? I have the x2 and would love an upgrade ?

When you did the 250% crop here 2:50 Is this the "dewarp" setting in insta360 studio?

Nope that was a 250% crop into “mega view” mode. Very similar to dewarp in that it keeps lines straight but it’s got a wider field of view.

I didn’t realize you can just overlay the stats and it matches up with the time stamp of the video. That is awesome. I want one of these

The desktop app and phone app are both excellent and work quite well!

Great review, the details of Insta360 X4 were very good introduced. I think the upgraded chip is quite an improvement for catching details and producing better footage, the frame rate in 5.7k is also a very big progress. Besides, the removable lens guard provides a more convenient way to protect the camera. I would love to have such a camera for myself!

I think I've been reading that the cam has a whole new AI chip that allows processing of the higher resolution which is awesome. With the higher frame rates it's now also finally a 360 cam that's good for all action sports, what always bothered me about my X2. One issue I always had with the 360 camers on the market was the lens guard (I scratched up my X2 badly....), with the new removable ones that issue seems gone. After watching your review and a few others I pulled the trigger on the X4 and now can't wait to get my hands on it!!!

This is definitely the camera i'm going to get , one quick question tho. For example let's take regular 8k video with 30fps, and me mode with 4k 30fps. Do i get better quality if i film with 8k, and reframe afterwards while selecting myself as a target, or does Me mode do a better job on that? What would you say are the cons/pros of using either of those, for self recording footage? Is Me only better only because you don't need to do the afterwork, like reframing/selecting the a.i to follow you, or does it offer any other benefits besides this, like better stablility, beter quality, etc?

Me mode will give you the same resolution as a reframed 8K shot since that’s all it is. It’s just doing the framing for you so you don’t have to.

I’m tempted. I have an Insta360 One R which is a few years old now but still does good 360 degree footage. The idea of being modular appealed but in reality I only use it one configuration. Certainly I wouldn’t buy a standard non-360 action cam again. The only issue is I’m not sure that for what I use one of these devices for that I can justify another $500 - don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s overpriced more that I don’t do enough exciting things to make it worthwhile!

Is it possible to mount this to a salmon adv skin 12 hydration vest? If yes, which accessory do I need for this?

Yes just like any other action camera though these 360 cameras are most useful on a selfie stick for that “drone like” perspective!

How does the camera perform while rock climbing and scrambling in the mountains? Do you recommend an accessory for this type of activity?

Does it still have the issue where if you record continously, it loses a few seconds of footage every half hour (as it saves one clip and starts the next)?

I haven't noticed that. They changed how files are saved now and instead of 2 files it only generates 1 file per clip. I think they've also changed the max clip duration. I'll have to do more testing and get back to you on that!

@@ChaseTheSummit Appreciate it! This matters a lot to me, really my only gripe with past cameras. Every once in a while something interesting will be going on at the half hour mark and I'll miss some footage while it's saving.

So I should get this over the ace pro?

They’re still for different purposes. The ace pro is much more durable and also has much better low light performance. The x4 has the added benefit of being a 360 camera. In a perfect world owning both would be the best option but I know that’s not realistic. You’ll have to decide what your use case is and which one fits that best.

How is it in low light? Bit rate? Looks interesting.

Low light is similar to the X3 in 5.7k but it’s not as good in 8K mode. I think the bit rate is capped at 200mbps with exported videos. The footage looks great in good like and 8K!

does it fit on dji action 2 mount?

3:35 How do you measure “technology” for justifying these things getting bigger? I mean, could’ve they lost a key engineer and are increasingly bodging it. As for resolution as proxy for progress, it’s delivered by miniaturization: Release the same product a year or two later, you’ll be able to procure a denser sensor (more potent microprocessor under the same power envelope, …). We’re not at an inflection point here (unlike optics or high-performance resin)-the bar for “good” should be more (resolution, faster processing) in the same case volume.

1. Color science is still bad look at color shifts between skin tones on most of the videos. 2. The artifacts are awful - look at the blocking on images even in broad daylight. 3. Why is no one that is bought and paid for with a camera explaining how bad the highlights are yet claim this is so much better than the X3? It's not, it literally is an X3 with some more AI stuff for algorithms. 4. Reframed video 2.7k isn't impressive. Especially when all the 8k is doing is amplifying how bad the artifacts etc are before reframe. 5. The 1RS is bad in and of it self. BIG sensor, poor low light performance. The x4 1/2 sensor still bad. 6. KZreadrs should be honest, they are losing credibility. Getting resell links to push a camera that isn't much different then the X3. The Qoo cam had 8k prior to this, it was bad as well. They never made any real changes, they just pushed it out. Sadly that is all that Insta360 has been doing year after year. It's not a good look. And it takes those whom bu it with their hard earned money to get a real review. Ps. Owner of a pocket 1/2/3, Canon 1D Mark 1/2/3, 7D, 7D mark II, Sony A9, Gopro 3-11. All of these dont need a million people to push their products on youtube. Take a wild guess why that is... The quality speaks for it self. The things on the Insta are all novelty. They don't listen to their customers at all.

Couple of things: You mention my credibility... As I mentioned during the first 20 seconds of this video this is not a review. All I did here was state the specs and show examples of the footage. So I'm not really sure how that comes off as lying or false advertising. I'll likely follow up with another "in depth review" with more pros and cons down the road once I get more use with it. Second, the "reframed" image on this camera is 4K not 2.7K. Third, for a 360 camera the footage coming out of this camera is pretty damn impressive in my opinion. I'm not sure what "blockyness" you're referring to. Sure, a traditional mirrorless camera, or single lens action camera may have an advantage in terms of raw image quality, sharpness, dynamic range, etc... but those aren't 360 cameras... The whole point of the 360 camera is the unique perspective it offers and for certain activities these cameras are game changers. All that to say, if you hate these cameras so much simply don't buy one. Problem solved lol.

My 1dx mark iii video on platforms, pocket 3 video, pocket 2 video, pocket 1 video all look good w KZread’s compression. Keep trying, fanbois won’t ever get it

If the definition of ACTION CAMERA = Super Fragile camera that will get a scratch on the lens the second it touches ANYTHING - then YEAH - great "ACTION CAMERA" - for the rest of us - who will inevitably use this while say - Biking/Snowboarding/Climbing/Driving or anything ACTION related - I guess we just get ONE CHANCE?? You drop this in the snow and you are staring down a $99 repair (or at least it was $99 for the X2 this is the X4!) - and at least 8 WEEKS of turn around from CHINA to get a replacement - IF - they answer the email within 2 weeks - which they WILL NOT! So unless you are get this for free because of your Subscriber count - this is NOT AN ACTION Camera - unless you want to keep spending Money on replacing lenses. The lens guards suck and affect the stitch - trust me - I have had to replace three of these things doing CRAZY like .....walking down a trail and it slipped out of my bag. Or SLEDDING (not snowboarding) SLEDDING on a small hill. Dropped the cam in the snow - lens scratched - $99 and 12 weeks later - finally get a new camera - it sits in my closet - never use it.

Give it a rest! If you drop a GoPro, you’re going to scratch it up too. At least now if you have the tempered glass lens protectors on, more than likely your lenses will be safe. Maybe 360 cameras aren’t for you. As for me, it’s the only camera I use 90% of the time.

@@bruceskousen5451 Not true man - first off - have you ever owned an X2 or an X3? and have you ever owned a GoPro? My goPro fell from a 40ft. balcony doing a Timelapse and was perfectly fine. My X2 on the other hand - I literally brushed against a tree branch and scratched the lens - Im just trying to help people out - instead of shilling a FREE product sent to me. The issue with this camera is in the marketing of it being an ACTION CAM - its a very good walk around camera - that if you are very careful with - will be OK - but that is NOT what is advertised - they are literally shooting debris at the lenses in the ads - and NONE of these guys reviewing these cameras are actually using the lens Guards - why? because they suck!

How you guys think about the privacy on the app ? It’s a Chinese company and they want to access to all your data on your phone. Are you really comfortable to give them access ?
