Really great video review. I own an X3 and now have just purchased the X4 since I have enjoyed using the X3 so much. As you say, it's a totally different mindset using this device in terms of capturing content and extremely versatile.

did you edit the footage at all in terms of color? Trying to gauge if i need to play with the videos before uploading. I'm not much of a content creator so not looking to do much editing.

Well what I was searching for a action like this one... cool shots on places where you can't come easily and don't have to think about framing. And shots in the water. You can get more types of shots with 1 take. Love that part. And in normale lighting this one is good enough.

yes, with the caveat that the further away from your body it sits, the better 360 omnidirectional view it will have. Consider either chest or helmet mounting it with an extension arm, or better yet mount it to the seat post or handlebar.

you can adjust the FOV so it doesn't give you that look. It's a setting both in the camera and in the app.

I don’t know. I can’t quite decide if it’s time for me to get a 360 Camera. I am not sure I can trust Insta 360 reviews anymore, particularly when it is sponsored by Insta 360. There was not a single negative comment made about the X4 during this review.

action cameras have a more compact and manageable form factor for sports. But otherwise, yes 360 cameras offer way more versatility and functionality, if you can live with the snickers formfactor

Spreading 5.7k scenes over 2 cameras only produces 1080p quality that’s why it was underwhelming previously. The 8k now means you’re seeing 4k that you don’t have to upsample on the reframe. I’m pleased with it since I only upgraded from X2 to it for these new features. I keep the One RS 1inch Leica version for 360 photo sales

I'm not a fan of the video quality coming out of it. I can tell it's a small sensor. The microphone on the other hand generally sounded good. I agree this camera could be good for run and gun vlogging type content.

You can adjust it as @AllenRReid mentioned. Also keep in mind the "Stich" line ( sides of the camera) it will cause a blurring warble in your video ( like you will see in the shopping cart video) always try to keep the camera fixed and not roll it too much or else the "stich" like could really mess with your video. Also, you can hook up a power bank to the camera to extend battery life while using it.

I felt like this when I saw the footage, the first time I felt "this actually looks good!"

Action cams are more useful for fpv drones... But that's about it 😅

I just tested for the first time my Insta360 X4 with the water Case for snorkeling compare to my Gopro 11, and let me tell you, I was so disappointed with the quality of the footage with the Insta360 X4. Am I the only one, or am I missing something here ?

I Just bought this new X4, first test on the sport bike at speed, guess what happened?!, the forward facing standard protective lens was removed by the wind forces. Insta360 you failed! It doesn't fit on firm enough! Buyer beware!, the protective lens will come off!

This footage looks trash on KZread. I’m starting to reconsider.

I love 360 cameras but two things that are issues - be careful when you set it down (I sat it down and scuffed one of the lens) and when you export out 16:9 its not an 8K video. But put it on a stand or on the camera and get cool behind the scenes at photoshoots. I would say if you can get both, an action camera and 360 if you have budget. As a travel camera, 360 cameras are great. Just walk around and reframe later.

I think the lens concern is a legit one on previous models, which is why they made removable lens covers with this X4. I'll definitely make sure to look out for this!

I wish one of these action cams (GoPro, DJI, Insta) would make a timer feature where you can plant the camera somewhere and set a time for it to turn on and record at a specific time like DVRs on Tvs.

GoPro has that for the Max360, it is app called GoPro Labs (from GoPro). It does what you say and much much more, including record on motion detect, or sound detect.

That would actually be a great feature, the gesture control is the closest I believe this has that's close to it.

Buyer beware on all these videos - this is KZreadr influencer at its HIGHEST - the embargo has lifted - there are 50 videos out there about this "ACTION CAMERA" - and what NONE OF THEM TELL YOU - is that these lenses are DELICATE - like you WILL SCRATCH the lens in snow - or on a bike trail - or a dropping it on a table - and then - it will cost (at least it did on previous models) $99 to fix it - or all your footage will have a smudge from the scratch. Also - you have to write an email to them explaining it - then wait 4 weeks for a reply - then fill out a form and pay the $99 plus shipping - to CHINA - then - wait another 4 weeks - until you get our camera back.....ALL of these videos got a FREE camera - and then went snowboarding - and if they had to pay $500 for the camera - then another $99 if they dropped it in the snow - which WILL scratch it - they would not use it. The lens guards dont work - in fact I had one scratch my actual lens when the camera hit the ground while not even snowboarding - SLEDDING on a bunny hill! BUYER BEWARE! These are just commercials for free cameras given to influencers.

The camera just came out lol. These are issues you probably had with the previous model & understandably it seems like they’ve noticed those problems and implemented solutions in this new one (removable lens guards, cage, etc).

In most cases in typical camera's i'd say it's overkill, but it actually makes a substantial difference in this 360 camera's video quality. When you're reframing + zooming/cropping, it makes a difference.

Both great options i'd say! If you just want to shoot, figure out the framing in post and know the footage looks good, choose the X4.

I'd say the price is worth it, its not that much more than any other new action camera on the marker and you can do a lot more with it in my opinion.

I’m just wondering how much you guys are getting paid to say you enjoy the quality of this footage… every video I’ve seen of this footage looks like a webcam outside mushy greens and blues… no real 4k quality on both lenses just straight… dog water

I think the footage looks good! Haha. It must be KZread compression or not actually switching the video quality to 4k, the footage looks incredible to be from a 360 camera with this small of a sensor. I'm not sure what you're seeing.

Why aren’t my images being saved to my iPhone album as 360 images after I chose export as 360? It’s just flat images doesn’t save with that 360 symbol and FB doesn’t support 360 images no more ?😢
