Let’s be honest here. The image from the GoPro is better. It’s a lot cleaner than the x4. GoPro users know this. You can even tell from your video. 8k is really 4K on each lens. Same camera size from the x3.

Sorry, I don't see a better image on the GoPro, however, it should have a slightly better image considering it is 5.3K vs 4K for each lens on the x4. Actually, the resolution is slightly less than 4K on the x4 because 4K is the entire side. After cropping it's probably closer to 3-3.5K. GoPro, however, is a dead company. They have not really been innovative for at least three generations of action cameras. They got lazy, thinking they were on top. Well, now they're are in at least third place behind Insta360 and DJI. I expect GoPro to file for bankruptcy within two years. They will probably be bought out before then.

You don't need "the best" image. You just need an image that's good enough. Whether that is the case for each camera is for to decide. But demanding always the best without considering the actual need is what gets you fired as a project manager... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Of course its better. But the X4 closed the gap. And the X4 is a 360 cam that can do things the Gopro Hero can not. If the X achieves Gopro level image quality, the Gopro will become completely obsolete. Lets face it. The slightly better image quality of the gopro is no longer worth it compared to what you get with the X4.

Let's be honest, if you did not point your camera exactly in the right direction, with the x4 you can correct that in post, with the gopro you can not. You have to do the composition right when shooting.

@Hans exactly. The best image is the one you capture where the others don't get it. I can't even count the number of times I've seen something cool happen behind me while filming something else. 👍🏼

Did you record any of the x4 footage in this video with the included lenses guards? I want an x4 but heard the lenses are extremely fragile and the guards cause a glare or fog up.

what a crackin' review. review, looks like insta x4 has really stepped up the game - i admit i wasnt sure when the intsa 360's came out. felt a bit of an expensive gimmick, but they are showing they are a serious bit of kit - yeah its got a little way to go - but the visual video quality is much improved. and i appreciate that - cos im not buying a camera with blurry/soft/fuzzy visuals! but this is pretty impressive. i just wish i had a use of such a thing! always value your views and opinions.

I just ordered the X4. This will be my first experience into the 360 camera world. I have the gp12 and the insta360 ace pro as well. What sold me was the AI technology, the lens protectors, insta360 app/ video suite, and battery life. Thank you for the video review!

I found that the Insta360 Studio software on MS Windows ran like a dog until I discovered that you need to go into the program's settings and enable the Hardware Acceleration modes. It then worked fine. The Apple version of the Studio software runs fine without having to set anything special on a 7 year old MacBook Pro.

Witch better for photography?

Very nicely done! I have both the Insta360 X4 and the DJI OSMO Pocket 3. Their respective use cases compliment each other and I find them a great pair of cameras to use for all sorts of things. The DJI Mic 2 pairing with both the X4 and Pocket 3 is simply wonderful and at €99 for a single device seems to be the must have accessory for either camera. I also have the GoPo MAX 360 camera, but its output doesn't get close to the X4. I guess I'll be cancelling my GoPro subscription as even the €100 off a new GoPro, they simply haven't got anything in their product range that interests me and I also hate their subscription model.

Cool review, convinced me to GoPro due to image quality/definition

Had the X3 and sold it because I considered the output video after processing to be poor quality compared to say an iPhone. Do you consider this to be a bigger leap forward, would I notice much difference between the X3 footage and the X4?

If you consider the X3 output to be of "poor" quality, you are doing something wrong. The iPhone has great 4k output in both photo and video modes, but the X3 output is not poor quality.

X4 seems to use a much better algorithm. Images look *much* cleaner than X3 even though it's virtually the same sensor.

does the viewfinder reframing also work in horizontal video perspective?

Sure, you can auto rotate the camera or lock it if preferred. In free frame mode, you can go 9:16 later in the software I believe regardless of single mode (free frame) or 360 modes

Does the DJI mic2 connect with this camera with the AirPods like it does with the x3? Also, does it come with the silicone lens cover?

Yes it comes with the lens cover and yes it does connect to the dji mic 2, but I’m guessing it will be the lower quality Bluetooth connection of 16hz and not the high quality audio you get with dji cameras

@@ZanderRound It comes with the standard plastic lens guards, the silicone lens cap is an extra or comes as part of some of Insta360's X4 bundles. The DJI Mic2 works well with the X4, but you cannot record in 32 bit float on the Mic or engage Noise Reduction when its connected by Bluetooth. However you can always use it disconnected and drop the sound track into the timeline on Insta360 Studio's 'Project' interface, though you might need to export it as non-32 bit float first.

It is much better but still not as good as a new action camera in my opinion.

Apples and oranges. The Ace Pro has a larger sensor, so low light would definitely be better. They are basically two different types of cameras. I have the Ace Pro and the X3.

GoPro ditched their 360 camera which was odd because the lenses were staggered causing a funky split on the stitch line.

Yes, the DJI and GoPro action cams are going to give you much better image quality. But this is the best 360 camera you can now get. And I like me some 360.

It would be nice to see a 360 video. Very hard to find

Well it has been goodbye GoPro long time now. The Insta360 X4 looks very promising, but I'm unsure about using it as a pure action camera. It's not as well built as the action 4 or the gopro 12. But I'm seriously considering the Insta360 X4. For me, GoPro is a camera that gives poor color reproduction. It looks fake, where Action 4 is absolutely superb. So I'd rather see action 4 vs Insta360 X4. I also have a little problem with trusting you guys that get the cameras for free. It seems to me a bit scripted and not 100% honest.

I have the A4, Ace Pro and Insta360 RS One 360 and I bought them all, I'm a big DJI fan with their cameras and drones. I still love my original DJI Osmo but hated the Action 2, I don't consider that to be an action camera tbh, too many limitation. In terms of 360, DJI doesn't have anything out yet that's 360, at least GoPro as their Max with which failed miserably, not surprised, GP hasn't been innovative in ages. My DJI A4 is superb in good lighting, once that lighting is no longer there, my Ace Pro will kill it hands down. I think we've had this conversation before lol. I just got back from Punta Cana and took my DJI A4 and Ace Pro down for a dive, the DJI failed miserably, both shooting in the exact same modes. I see it this way, the DJI A4 and the Ace Pro make a good couple but no one to-date can beat Insta360's 360 devices, they've been doing it longer then the competitors and they are damn good at it not to mention they actually listen to their customers and make changes accordingly with every firmware. GP and DJI is lacking in this support ;)

Size and weight of X4 IS just over The roof. Allready The X3 was heavy 180g and now X4 203g . Compare GoPro Max 154g. Its that heavy a action camera any More? Dont get me wrong I love insta360 but that some serios weight.

Ya its def too heavy imo. I remember trying the One R when it first came out and did not like it when I used it for snowboarding. The X4 is even heavier. Hopefully they can decrease the size and weight for X5. For now, I just gotta tough it out lol

Good options, 360, but! No 10bit! Image quality is not good, not even close to dji or gopro!

Wait untill lense fogging becomes a thing if u want zero issues just get the ace pro or DJI OA4

Lens fogging on the actual lens? Nope. The lens protectors could fog up in humid climates until it acclimates to the outside temperature. However, the lens protectors are not sealed, so they may not fog up at all.

For motovlog (helmet mount) the GoPro still no1 compared to this huge x4.

why goodbye gopro and not ace pro or action 4? Just advertise. Different cameras and always everyone against GoPro

I sense a theme with launch day Insta360 camera "reviews". They're all "GoPro killers". Insta360 seem very much invested in passing this message to viewers. Why not DJI killer? Or even another Insta360 camera? To be honest, I don't think image quality on this camera is that good when compared with the X3, for example, from the many videos I've watched so far. Not even great image quality overall. As far as I can tell, it's yet another action camera.

Insta360 doesn't need to emphasize that GoPro is dead. GoPro has done it to itself. I wouldn't buy a GoPro now or in the future. They'll be bankrupt or sold within two years. Currently, their stock is trading for less than $2, not a good sign for a healthy company.

Because of all the cameras today, GoPro is waayyyy behind and the least innovative. Let's be honest, GoPro hasn't done anything new for the past 3 generations and still has over heat problems for a 4K camera, DJI A4, Ace Pro, X3 and X4 has no heat issues like the GPs even when shooting at 8K. You do realized that the only thing that GoPro has going for them is fanboys right? bruceshousen5451 is dead on, GoPro stocks has been dropping the last two years taking a record loss last year, don't take our word for it, do the research.GoPros' only revenue is via subscription. GP13 is suppose to launch this Sept apparently with 8K, still no details, too late, too bad, Insta360 has already launched two cameras with 8K feature. I was a big GP fan back in the days, tired of their BS and lack of care for their customers and customer needs. I have all three brands and love DJI but with the released of the X4, I'm thinking about dropping my A4. The Ace Pro is a killer camera for a first gen Action Camera, GoPro is at 12 Gen, they should be embarrassed, sad, they 'were' the grandfathers of action cameras.

I don’t know what you are talking about, I have neither camera or brand but the GroPro images you have provided in this video has much better color and image detail than the X4 images in this video.
