My favorite Tatar’s uchpucmaks, Balish, gubadia and many other yummies that our grandma ( abika )) used to bake and cook for us. Missed her and grandpa so much and those happy times when we were together …

Loved your video . The aga stove is not only good for cooking but for heating the kitchen . In my youth on a farm in Africa we spend most of the winter , which could be quite severe , in the kitchen warmed with exactly such a stove . Present always was a kettle with coffee and my grandmother cooking a stew . I was so impressed by the pickled tomatoes that I googled and found a recipe called , Russian grandmothers pickled tomatoes Next week on the farmers market I will buy tasty tomatoes ( no supper stuff for this ) and pickle them .

Hey Matt, those reminded me of pasties! Right! My dad's oldest sister had a coal stove. I remember sitting by it when we came in from outside and warming next to it. I remember the smell too. Brings back old memories. Julia, your auntie reminded me of my aunts (dads two sisters) who always had special treats waiting for when we went over, especially pies and babkas! @@MattandJulia Yes cozy, especially one year visiting during christmas, raging snowstorm outside, snow everywhere winds howling, power outage, but no worries sparkling wood and candles kept us warm and cozy like a long warm hug, will always remember the safe and warm feeling from the stove going to bed...

The pies looked so delicious that it reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen when she had a wood cookstove and all the meals that were cooked on that woodstove were extremely good. Good memories, Matt and Julia all the best!

I envy you guys. Julia you are so fortunate to come from such a wonderful part of the world. I just love Siberia from what I have seen not only in your videos but anything to do with Siberia and the Altai region. Last night watched some guys follow the Katun river to its source. Absolutely sensational to see. Keep up the good work Matt, Julia. You got to get the smell sensor to work on the camera though. Cruel not to be able to smell the delights that came out of the Aga. Oh what a treat! I would like to try those Turkic Pies, will they be part of the future cooking course ? Last week I was visiting my relatives in a small hamlet in the north of Cordoba province, in the middle of Argentina. The house is over 120 years old and has an original coal stove, ( we call it "cocina economica" here ) but no one has used it for several decades. The next time I visit the house I will try to use it, checking the vent first.... I see that Matt not only has problems opening champagne bottles but also jars! or do you prank him? did you put glue on it? ha ha By the way those tomatoes look tempting too! They come from your aunt's own orchard?? well thanks for another beautiful video, bye from Torrid Buenos Aires !! How I envy that snow!!

Childhood memories are the most precious. I remember growing up in a small German town for the first 5 years of my life before migrating to Australia but my memories are the smells of the landscape, tasting heartfelt food & learning to understand my surroundings.
