Hey Dan. I just got back from my weekend ride. A guy from side street just jumped in front of me. Nothing happened, because I didnt drive fast, I noticed him and assumed hes not gonna see me. Rolled off the throttle, applied brakes and as I saw he's not stopping I just let him. He was terrified when he saw me, probably figured what he would cause if I didnt stop. So - thanks for all your videos, I watched hundreds of hours of them, you made better rider even before I started riding🤘🏻

Being a trucker and a guy who rides a bike, I know that it seems safer to ride towards the outside of the lane, but it's way harder to see a bike like that. I tend to ride towards the right of the lane passing a semi, and I try to limit my time next to them by speeding up.

Yep that's what I thought too. Middle/middle right On the freeway I've found that's the best place to be seen in mirrors overall. Also gives a bit more deer buffer to the median side.

In many of these close calls and crashes because of line of sight and cars not seeing motorcycles, if cyclist moves back and forth in the lane people will see you much easier and it improves your line sight. People see movement more than colour or lights.. I get yelled at often for swerving back and forth, but I am happy that they saw me. Before entering intersections where cars might often turn in front of me , I swerve back and forth , shinning my headlight into their faces. Be careful no one is beside you when swerving. At night it is especially important to move back and forth as your headlight will blend in with the cars behind you.

Hey Dan awesome video, I think another passive sense that people don't realize is happening while riding is feel. as we ride and use the Plan method. our underlying senses of how things feel is working to. example, passively you're also avoiding dips, cracks, and tar snakes on the road that aren't a hazard per say, but just by how your bike feels as it rides through those textures you feel them through your palms and body, and are making adjustments for them as well, all while you are doing your Plan method. the mount of processes your brain is doing, actively and passively is quite amazing.

Aviate (do whatever is needed to make things stable, pretty much basic training on flying), Navigate (figure out where you are and fly where you need to) and then Communicate (communication, revbombing, gestures are meaningless if you do not have control over situation anymore)

0:11 min.: This was not a safe merge, it was more like a kamikaze attack, because the distance between the two cars was only 1 second. And that was diminshed by the scooter! As the driver of a motorcyle first slow down to the speed of the other lane, then switch the indicator on and make sure, the driver in the car behind your position has seen you and widens the gap. Then you can merge.

35:11 when entering this intersect the rider is distracted because he is talking. There is a largish gap to the next car in front. the car waiting to turn left might go because motorcycles are invisible.. I would have covered my front brake, moved back and forth shining my headlight at the left turner and moved over more to right. After entering intersection I would accelerate hard to get out of the intersection. Intersections are where 80% of accidents happen.

I see going into curves at high speeds all the time & upon braking properly just prior to leaning back up straight they'll goose the gas causing the rear tire to spin = a rear wash out? It happens at a delicate point when weights are being transferred between tires just coming out of a turn where you instinctively wanna hit the throttle but you go down in that split second. The most important thing to remember as an advanced driver is that people only look forward and only use the breaks when something bothers them. No vehicles are installed with mirrors, indicators, or horns. A car is just a windowless tube with four wheels and a hole in the front to keep the rain off. One in six people is statistically a narcissist, so you are always wrong, and one in 50 people has psychopathy, so they don't care if they do hit you. Never assume that the muppets of this world think like you; they don't. Always look for hazards.

If you're in a group and someone gets pulled over and a backpack can ride, tagged or not if you can safely get the bike and go, you're a REAL one for saving that bike from the future graveyard. The only way the cops can legally do anything about a situation like this is if the bike is stolen and at that point I'm pretty sure your friend would NOT want you to accompany them to jail so leave the bike. “Why didn’t they see him wasn’t he wearing high visibility.” Here’s the issue I have with that. This mentality puts us into the mindset that if we were just wearing brighter clothes people would see us and accidents wouldn’t happen. It puts us at the mercy of other drivers. “Oh I got my high visibility gear on so they’ll see me.” No. Look I get your a firefighter and you respond to accidents a lot but I know you don’t respond to all accidents because I was a tow truck driver and I showed up to many accidents that never had fire trucks show up and a lot of them were high visibility bikes with people wearing high visibility gear. Look I won’t argue that high visibility gear doesn’t make you easier to spot, what I will argue is that people have to be looking for that to matter and we need to stop assuming people are looking. They’re not. In all the motorcycle accidents I went to and cleaned up never did anyone say the accident was caused because they didn’t have enough high visibility gear on. The two main causes are people going too fast for road conditions or to react to a hazard. The second most common was people being reckless. The third was people not paying attention, and the 4th was gear failure such as breaks going out or a chain coming loose and wrapping up in the wheel causing a hard lock up. The point is, don’t dive thinking people will notice you if only you wear brighter clothes. Drive like people won’t even bother to look for you and drive at a slow enough speed so that when you notice a hazard approaching because you’re paying attention you can escape the situation. And keep your bike maintained so it doesn’t break down on you. Those three things will keep you out of more accidents than wearing a neon yellow suit will.

There are pictures you can google how many people you can hide in the Blind spots of a large truck and that is so scary. I’m extra careful around them, more so when on 2 wheels.

There are more and more videos in which a guy flies at three times the speed limit and is outraged that he is being interfered with. By the way, have you noticed that AngryD has stopped showing? Looks like everyone is tired of him 😀

First clip of biker being rear ended with your suggestion they pull into the left at the lights......... Problem there would be car coming up pushing in front. You can say it's not a problem but if he forgets you are tucked in on his left and decides to to take the left turn ahead, he'll run over you...... even if you don't move. P.S. The clip is from UK with driver on the right hand side of the vehicle and both roads ahead are one way.

12:30 As a truck driver, that trucker didn’t look. Our *SIX MIRRORS* eliminate all blind spots. Yes there is coverage next to the cabs too. I can see TWO LANES OVER in the mirrors, and anything else I could maybe miss I will see if I head check. The right side has enough mirror coverage as well. That driver yelling at the bike is an absolute child. Truckers are majority manchild boomer conservatives, all stereotypes applied.

Filtering makes sense to me. From a safety and efficiency standpoint. Splitting just seems unnecessary. Though I'm not in a highly populated area either.

ok, WELL, I just finished watching the Last part of this video, . .. possibly , you do have good intentions.. after seeing you RIDE & Explain your Obstacle Avoidance.., I would only suggest to you to (KEEP THINGS MUCH SIMPLER & TO THE POINT) when explaining to New riders How to Think, & What to Plan & DO. just explain it a bit simpler ... 1,2,3 , like see danger , Cover Brakes, if Danger still there or incereases, then SET-UP Brakes !, step 3. if Danger persists or increases, SQUEEZE Brakes , and or Choose Alternative Pre-Calculated EXIT ROUTE (1 of 3Max). i.e. left , right, middle. just , look ahead, use peripheral vision for sideways, think ahead, act for others non-awareness, all this, but just explain it simply while you ride and react.

After watching so many of these videos I have to say motorists in the US and the UK just suck. They are totally oblivious to the environment and it seems that its just much worse to be on a bike in these countries as opposed to countries with much more hectic traffic.

DanDan, I love your vids man, but I absolutely hate it when riders "lane split" and get hit or cut-off, the rider gets pissed. It's the riders own damn fault. It makes us all look like assholes. When I see this on the video, I immediately click off and go back to watching something else. I get it man, you are running a very successful YT channel, and you have to pander to both sides for the clicks, but dang man, at least mention that it's the lane splitters on fault and not safe.
