I am a Turkish living in Canada and I always preferred Greek restaurants here, probably because of similar taste culture. I have to admit Greeks are very good in food business and the quality of what they offer and service does usually not change over time. I was really saddened when one of my favorite restaurants called Diogenes shut its doors in Montreal. It was a small restaurant with friendly, warm atmosphere, with little blue tartan clothed tables, house wine and nice soothing Greek music playing in the background. Their chicken pita and meat dishes were one of the best that I ever tasted. Also I love the Pikilia plate, Greek style Mousakka, Spanakopita, Taramosalata.

I'm Greek and I live in Italy. It's hard for me to have an opinion on Turkish restaurants because where I live most Turkish people open up kebab shops with barely any proper cooked food. We got Lebanese restaurants, Syrian ones, but no Turkish ones.
@vaporizer08

@@dalaiklama Hi. You can find excellent top class restaurants in Turkey which are specialized in meat or traditional Turkish food. Unfortunately outside of Turkey, especially in North America I did not see that many Turkish restaurants at the same level compared to Greek or Italian ones. It seems outside of Turkey, Turkish entrepreneurs mostly go for small fast food-kebab style outlets. On contrary Greeks, Italians own pretty large scale restaurants or chains with a well decorated cozy dining atmosphere. In Montreal where I live the most popular restaurants are Greek or Italian and almost always full to the max. There are also good Indian, Chinese, Lebanese restaurants but not as many or popular as the Greek and Italian ones. In the US the situation is about the same. Note that I am not familiar with European countries like Germany where millions of Turks reside.

@@vaporizer08 To be honest, as a Turkish I dont prefer Turkish restaurants out of Turkey, and Greek Restaurants out of Greece, since they really do not try to make tasty food. I do have bad memories in Florida, New York, Georgia and New Orleans, was a big mistake obviously. I admire Italian, and Lebanese culture regarding abroad food making.

After 15 cities in Italy and some in Spain and many Europe countries that i have been, the food in Greece (comparing its prices, quality, variety and availability) is on many levels above. One significant reason why we do not leave the country for the money elsewhere despite the high qualifications. Some values are priceless...

Greek street food is wealthy in aromas, flavors, and influences and it's been entitled one among the world's hale and hearty cuisines. NO wonder Greece is known to be a hub for foodies. The rich taste of the Greek cookery is to be savored at each bite. It takes you on a sensational journey back in time to the land of Ancient Greek gods and heroes who once created the delicious recipes that we tend to rejoice these days. Happy street food tour! Why do we even talk about Italy? This is a Greek food tour video,, even though not a successful one. One thing I admire about Italians is how they sneak into everything and promote their products and their country. That is why you mention Mediterranean food in this video and not Greek. So ingenious of you. Love from Crete Greece!!

@@arikanti2249 This is just a casual video made by a traveler who shared feedback from his trip to Greece. A professional documentary would be quite different. It's natural for him to bring up his country and compare dishes, so I don't mind that. Also, he probably has many Italian followers and they may want to hear his perspective as an Italian. My only complaint is that I wasn't invited to eat all that food...🙂
@arikanti2249

@@JULOC05 As you can understand in our days we have to be very careful on how to refer to others. Let alone on an entire country's gastronomy. And as I say,(based on facts): When ottomans conquered Kontantinople (Istanbul as it is known today, or the Byzantine empire) all the sultans wanted to eat like the Greeks. The Greeks that had already been experimenting with ingredients and recipes coming from west to east and vice versa. The same happened BEFORE that when the Roman empire conquered the Greeks. The Elite of the Romans showed their status by how much of a Greek lifestyle they had. They had to have Greek teachers for their kids, had to have the best Greek cuisine and be the closest to a Greek lifestyle as possible. Let's not forget that even BEFORE that, the empire of Alexander the Great used to transferred ingredients from west to east and vice versa. Theophrastus (Θεόφραστος 371-287 BC) in his book: "The history of plants", was one of the many Greek scientists and philosophers that first described all these products. Their ORIGIN, their taste, their use and their properties. Greeks always shared knowledge. Turks always ravaged, renamed and presented everything as their own and the beloved Italians still are very good at showing off. So, who influenced whom? Just because we are not showing off, it does not mean that we have not gone deeper to what the soul wants. Answers. Not only for the taste, but also for science, physics, philosophy, medicine, gymnastics, wellbeing...etc. Some concepts might have already been scattered around the world from some older civilizations but in Greece, there were breakthroughs in just about everything, in such a sort time and that is what the mystery is about. In my opinion this is because the minds here were and will always be restless. Please make your own research. (For Greek viewers, please feel free to copy and paste anything you feel is useful).

Great content! Might I suggest going to the western suburbs of Athens and close to Piraeus (Korydallos, Nikaia), you can find many hidden gems specializing in kebab. Also you will find the best gyro in Achilleas (Neos kosmos area). From other areas in Greece, I would recommend going to rural Sterea Ellada (Thebes, Lamia, etc), you will find the best lamb dishes. Generally in central and northern Greece you will find the best kontosouvli (meat skewers), and especially in northern Greece the best soutzoukakia (small minced meat kebabs).
