Initial Slice by Initial Audio | Review
Музыка
Initial Slice is the latest VST instrument that was released by Initial Audio. It is a Loop Slicer / Sampler, but obviously, Initial Slice is much more than that.
In this video I will take a look at the interface of Initial Slice, I will go over its features and I will give you my opinion on this new Virtual Instrument.

Great balanced review! Keep up the good work!
Both your ideas are bang on... Thanks for the video....
Awesome video! Many thanks.
Nice review, thank you.

How to fit a third-party sample to the grid?
Thank you for the great video!!! I gotta question if you maybe you can't help... Please, if I feed this beast with a simple drum loop (from a vinyl record, for example) is it possible to save those pieces individually, in a batch process, or something like that? I usually save them using some personal preferences like "KC" at the kicks names, "SN" before the snares names, and so on. I don't remember seeing you slicing a drum beat and saving those pieces... ...oh, and by the way, you've shown us that there are some manipulation effects for slices but you didn't say if they can be addressed for the slices individually, like it can be done in MOMENTUM, for example. I could say that "yes, it can". Could you please tell us?
How do you get this to start when you press play on your DAW?
Hey can you make a video as how to use this pluging to create a full song ....
Excellent review even though with the features you wished for it will never be "nominated for plugin of the year" by any sane person. All features of Initial Slice are done so much better in anyone's favorite DAW even the lite versions! It must be in top 3 of the worst purchases I made this year: other commenters hit the nail on the head: "I only bought it for its loops and drum kits" and "It's a $10 beatmaking plugin right now". Please DO TRY the demo version before considering purchase; Initial Audio have no license transfer policy so you're stuck with anything you buy from them.
It seems like it would be useful to me, I would make a loop with one shots included in and put it as a slice so I have fx in there. I think it really could depend on the loop you drag in. Nice review you covered what it can do well, I think I'd just use it differently to others and be able to get amazing results.
I have to be overlooking this... Where is the sample explorer? Has to be here somwhere. Cause having a sequencer built in but no file explorer with auto play for scrolling samples would be insane.. I have to be missing it.
The same issues with mpc 1, but it’s a great tool you just gotta do the work or use Edison in FL to record each teach or use midi out to each channel that works
So, that answers my questions...nice balanced review by the way. 1. It's a great beat starter tool, especially if you want to throw tracks up to lease or create quick stuff for vlogging vidoes etc...then you don't need all the control. But...not being able to trigger your individual drum hits via midi to create your own patterns and not be able to export that track out as stems. Now, if you were able to drag and drop your patterns in your DAW, then that would be a great workaround, I just downloaded the demo, so I can see what work arounds if any I can find. 2. I use Studio One 5, and it has a feature that allows me to "Explode Pitches To Tracks" that would separate each hit to their own tracks that I can then bounce out easily with a click of a button. If it works, then the multi outs is not necessary for us S5 users. But...not being able to create your own drum patterns by midi is an issue, not necessarily true for piano roll creators from Fruity or etc. I wished there was a roadmap to see what they are planning with it. It has a place with producers no doubt, but it would be good to have those features. I still am going to buy it, because at best...it's a beat starter and great for creating internet music for various uses.

Good points, wish I'd just tried the demo and not buy this botched beat maker, it really is a terrible product but your point at 1 is valid if the target audience is ok with (cheerless) trap music.

My suggestion, the way I use it, is to start cooking your drums on the XO, export the stems in your DAW, and rearrange it. Then you can drop that wav into the slicer and combine it with the rest.
With stem separation now. We can separate it into their own tracks
I noticed that you were using the SLICER in Studio One. How do you get the events into your daw?
@SupercyMusic
3 жыл бұрын
If you go to the Playlist page there is a button called "Playlist Midi", you can drag that into the daw. Keep in mind, it will only create midi events that trigger the patterns in the playlist, it doesn't seem to be possible to export the individual midi notes.
This plugin is similar to FL Studio with Serato sample. I don't see much of a difference. Most producers can do the same thing in FL channel rack. It's still a nice plugin, but why spend $99 when you already have a DAW.

They could only sell the loops or expansion packs inside of the plugin. That's the way to lock you in as a returning customer of their expansion packs. The best way to do this is with a reputable 3rd party VST is Serato Sample, Maschine or MPC software though. You definitely have a point. i think the biggest flaw inside of this plugin is there is no way to record with a midi keyboard/controller in standalone mode. Instead you have to click in all of the notes inside of the sample, drum and bass sequencers which take forever.
We can look at it from the perspective of Abelton clip system in Studio one .. I think soon Studio one will add something like this in near future

Studio On already has theses slicing features and more with there sampler and drum vst's
Like everyone said below, you can do this stuff in MPC studio, ableton, serato etc.. They would have been better off just selling the loops!

They're limiting you to only be able to use their loops in this plug-in. I think that's the catch.

@@odhinnswrath Yea, but the catch is they market the expansion packs to only be used inside of Slice and then you can drag the audio into midi format inside of your DAW's note editor. These are not raw wav audio files that you're getting in the expansion packs. Marketing the expansion packs is a strategic way to upsell to you to make more profit instead of the product or VST as a one time purchase. LOL

I'm not overly impressed since you can do this already in Ableton Live 11 and Serato Studio, which also provides the best pitch and time technology.

@@PeaceMakerMusick sorry .I think my question was a bit hasty..because I later saw that you could actually do a lot of step inputs via a grid. I guess that should compensate a lot for whatever it is that could be lacking.
It's only a decent plugin because it comes with samples and drum pattern templates. But other than that, it's functionality and flexibility is no where near the level of Big Fish Momentum, Serato Sample, Maschine and MPC Software/Beats.

OK, the MIDI implementation of beats and bass is whack (as in non-existent) but there is one (slightly) redeeming feature: Bounce to Wav function "This will bounce the whole playlist as audio to a folder called "Initial Slice Playlist Export". Separate stems are also created, so these can be mixed and edited further in your DAW."
Im not the only one who has noticed a sync issue in v. 1.1.6. Its a very annonying flaw and i hope they will fix it asap. The plugin is unusable at the moment .
I'm almost overwhelmed by the underwhelmingness of this waste of a vst. No randomization on the sequencers?! Guess you have to save something for version 2. Video was well done though.
Update: Yeah you can't drag and drop sequences from the playlist or from the song component. Yeah this plugin is incomplete right now, it's not worth $99, and especially not $149. It's a $10 beatmaking plugin right now.

This product is definitely not ready for production. I purchased it and used it for a week. There are still plenty of bugs. Lots of problems with interface. Great idea but it needs way much more polishing. At the present stage it is useless for me. It is really sad that people who make those presentations barely touch the surface of the software and make recommendations (just to make few bucks of commission). I rather recommend to wait until they come up with improved version and major bugs fixed.
