It's really nice to see people take on these older games with a wheel and drive like they actually know what racing is. Not all over the place, actually running the racing line, not taking out all competitors. This was fun to watch!

This was a fantastic game. It was the first ever serious racing I played. I had it on my Windows 95 in DOS mode. I wish they made more racing games with AI like this game had for today's major racing games. I just remember having to play this on keyboard, nowhere near as good as you race in this video.

I played this game like in 95 or 96 on a Pentium 100 MHz and it felt so real back then. Good memories.

One thing I noticed that I remember back when I spent hours on the sim... On a full fuel load, you really can't go flat through the corners unless you have so much wing that you'll get killed on the straight. If you roll out as you enter the corner, the car is a lot better behaved through the corner. It looks like the car is trying to push, which you're trying to correct with the bars, and it looks like the car is "pushy-loose"--it pushes going in, then once enough speed is scrubbed off, the car gets loose. Getting out of the throttle on entry helps fix that. The bonus is that at the end of the run when you can run flat all the way around, your tires are still in good shape.

When I really got into racing, all I wanted to play was Papyrus Racing games, because even back when this game came out, they tried to think of everything. The physics, for the time period, were extraordinary. I've never played a Papy game (on PC) that I didn't have hours of fun playing. This one came out when I was 8, so I wasn't good or anything, but 25 years later I still love racing and I still sim race. I wanted to leave that reply to your comment because I can tell you know how to race and you got to experience the incredible sims I did as a youth. Who would have thought in 1995 you'd need to think about tire life or fuel weight in a racing "game"? If not for these experiences I wouldn't have the confidence I have behind the wheel of anything.

@@JReaLBiz86 Those games from Papyrus were extremely realistic. Each circuit was different and a very precised and accurate car setting was necessary in order to perform well...and just finishing a race was a good performance. The user's manual was extremely helpful, it was actually a kind of racing book where everything was well explained. The key in those ovals was to adjust properly the wings, tyre pressure (particularly the left front tyre), shocks and adjusting the weight transfer throughout the race. That's why you had to spend hours testing before attempting to race a single race.

I played ICR2 for Years, I really loved the way you can update the cars and drivers to newer seasons than 95. It was a good time of my early years and I know I drove with 98% AI and random weather.

This was the only track I ever delved into going 100% realism. Full laps too. I had to really learn about keeping track of fuel and tires, balancing fuel vs weight, etc. It was a fun ride. I almost crashed 4 laps before the last one, due to lack of focus. Ended up on the grass with an intact car, somehow. Paused the game to take a deep breath and go for a piss, and then did the last laps carefully. :) I had a blast with this game. Usually I had fun fine tuning the car for Laguna Seca, or crashing it against the walls lol.

For me, the best part was having to try and find the right balance of tire compound, fuel, acceleration, top speed, boost, and number of stops.

I doubt you'll respond but how exactly did you get everything working. The game, the sound, the mods, etc. I've tried installing it but have only had it work on incredibly low res with no sound. Dosbox is incredibly annoying to deal with might you have any suggestions?

There is a seller on Ebay, allvideo, who has hundreds of old games for sale, including this one. He has to sell you one of the original disks or it would be copyright infringement, but what he also sends you is a game disk that has the game and Dosbox on it. Once you install it the game runs flawlessly. Downside is that it sets a virtual Dos/95, as appropriate, machine temporarily, so, no multiplayer. Solo play only. But he guarantees it to work, or money back. You just have to give him a chance to help you get it to work if there is a problem. I've bought dozens of games from him with absolutely no problems.

my 2nd game. i bought it abt 6month's after i'd been playing my 1st, Geoff Crammond's GP2. Nascar Racing2 came next. nothing wasted here - all cockpit function's have purpose/can be manipulated. serious stuff. not arcade by any mean's but simulation.

@Projectekon I just figured out how to get sound and high res. First, use the setup.exe to install the sound. Then, to get high res, when you're typing in indycar.exe, add -h to the end.
