I also got Microprose Grand Prix 2 running with this method as well, this tutorial really works for everything simracing in DOSBox

Thanks for this tutorial!! I went ahead and got it working, no wheel here so using a flight sim joystick. Really hard on road tracks but the smoothness of oval racing actually works pretty well. Even looked up how to paint my own car.

Nice tutorial, it is quite rewarding getting all the extra commands setup on your wheel's auxiliary buttons by using the key mapper.. I wish I could keep my hands completely off the keyboard and fully on my wheel, 25 years ago, but at least I can now. :)

I love the way you can just take any cars and just personalise it

If you are running the Windows version, CART Racing/Windy, then you have to lower your monitor's resolution so the game doesn't crash. You can force the EXE to run in 640X480, but doing so will cause the game to crash when trying to get out of your car. Also disable Direct Draw in the graphics settings so that you won't have a banner at the top of the screen. Other than that, it works perfectly fine on modern systems, and it's compatible with almost every track and carset made for ICR2! It's also much easier to install.

Patching the game is not required to run the stock cars and tracks in DOsbox but make sure to update if you want to run custom tracks and carsets. That will prevent all kinds of crashes and errors.

What an excellent guide! I got N1 running on my own, but followed this guide for ICR2. I'm glad that I did, you mention a number of things that are easily overlooked. The game runs just fine but for one thing, and I have the same problem with my N1 install. Some red colored objects in game appear magenta for me, I've been scratching my head over this one, any thoughts? Anyway thank you for taking the time to put this together, I have really missed my old racing sims.

What racing wheel do you recommend on a budget for a beginner? I really want to get into racing sims, especially the old ones. Thanks for the tutorial.

I have used dosbox for a lot of things but I have never heard of the ece version and didn't know about wheel support! This is amazing! I want to say thank you for doing something so awesome as this video! I love getting older games to run and I have a simucube that will be coming in soon so I know I'll have to get it to recognize the wheel through some other program to emulate my wheel to be one it can recognize but I sure hope you make plenty more of these! Even for RBR because there is so little of info for setting up and wheel settings for older games out there. One question though, until I get my wheel, I want to go ahead and get the game loaded up and working. Would I leave the joystick stuff default for my keyboard to be used?

Been awhile since I had time to play around with these old games. Dude you rock!! I love the step by step help you give the community. A+!!!! Do these tips for setting up this game in DOCbox apply to the other old Papyrus nascar games? I would imagine so. I dont know if you remember me but I was having difficulty getting carsets and my wheel to work in Nascar 1 etc.. EDIT: I'm running into one of my old issues again with joysticks. I have my thrustmaster in spot 1 and my Fanatec USB pedals in spot 2 but when I get to the calibration in game, the wheel goes fine and the pedals do nothing at all. If I go into advanced setting and click on my pedals it then wants to set my pedals up in game 1st and the wheel does nothing.

For the patches section of this video, do you run the other patch (IndyCar Racing 2 Patch (W95ICR11)), that has fixes realism settings in 2 player mode or is that included in the patch you show in the video and if your pedals have a clutch, does ICR2 support clutch?

So, I've been interested in trying to pick up the physical discs for some of the early Papyrus games, namely IndyCar I & II, plus NASCAR 1 & 2, and I was wondering how different the process would be if you were trying to load the games from the actual discs instead of just a rip. Or is it even possible in the first place?

Question(s): do different car sets have different physics and drive differently, and can I have more than one season on the ‘calendar’ file?

LPT: once you get your autoexec script correct and you don't want it to output the script on the screen, place @echo off at the very beginning of the script.

Tutorial spot on GPlaps. Thanks for this. Plus by following the same format I've been able to install (so far) GP2 and GP1 as well as NASCAR racing. Strange issue though with ICR2. I used the mapper utility from your video to assign my gear up/down buttons. Also for the boost and brake bias. But for some reason I can only get the rear anti-roll action to work whereas the front will not activate. No matter if I set in the mapper. I've only tested this in the practice testing mode and no race or championship. Don't know what it is. Assigning the front anti-roll buttons in the mapper just won't work. Any ideas anybody. Thanks again. Some happy DOS gaming on ECE build now 👍

When I map a button for front anti roll it assigns in the mapper okay and is listed there. But when I go to the game the front roll bar scale on the dash won't move. It moves the rear and changes the brake bias okay along with the boost, reverse and changing of gears (from mapper assign) I'm baffled. I tried deleting the mapper in the games dir and started over again. But no joy. I first thought it was a session thing or like a parc ferme type issue. But it lets me change the rear so it can't be.

I'll give things another try by re mapping the buttons for roll bar again in the mapper. Maybe there was something I didn't press right or firmly enough? If it doesn't work it's no problem. I still have the boost and brake bias mapped which is good enough. Plus button maps to bring up the race standings live and so on. For roll bar I'll just have to change it inside the setups page.

Got it going now Jake 👍 Just had to keep deleting action in assigned mapper keyboard input, until you could only add a button map. Now works great 😃

I finally got the game to run, it seems it won't work on any other directory besides local disc c or d, and I got to SVGA pretty well, my only complaint is that I'm stuck with one IndyCar paint job, how do I change my player vehicles paint job to any other on the roster? That is what's bugging me. And how can I make the graphic resolution and detail less pixelated on SVGA?

Great vide once again!, i only have a single drive (a C: drive) and when i do the Example autoexec part every time i do it i open the dosbox but it doesn't work, any help? Edit: nevermind i fixed it already, i moved the ICR2 folder to my C drive instead of my papyrus folder i then changed some things here, instead of the d drive i selected the c drive mount c c:\ c: CD ICR2 ICR2

Dos sims only run in 4:3 resolution, so there will always be black bars on either side

So I have an old XB cart. Car. Pruetts Firestone car. Lola from 96. And obviously to plug into the car to see all the vitals.make changes whatever. I was using an old laptop. And they would die. I'd get another laptop with windows 95 rinse repeat. I have like 5 laptops with windows 95. also the car dongal plugs into parallel printer port. My idea is using this dos.box thing on my new laptop. Just need a parallel port?

im stuck! ive gotten everything right but, once i launch dosbox it cant see the patch.exe....it only shows 22 files in the directory.

Inspired by this video I thought i'd do a fresh install, works perfectly well thanks 👍🏻, only minor issue im having is that everytime I start the game it wants me to calibrate the joystick axis's ( although it remembers my config and buttons ), i'm sure i've solved this before in previous installs, but it escapes me at the momment, any ideas ? " minor tip Alt F in cockpit displays Frame rate "

Belated update, I was just about to do a fresh install and caught a glimpse of my Icr2 Windows cd on a shelf 👀 must have been a sign, lol, popped the disc in and it autoplayed , installed and configured perfectly ( on my Win 10 64 bit system ) , runs and plays great, I unchecked direct draw ( in advanced graphic settings ) so it plays full screen not windowed. After numerous short test runs I was interested to see if random crashes were going to be an issue, started a 200 lap race at Phoenix, eventful race with a couple of pauses, yellow flags, and got punted on lap 111, wheel damage, but was just on the corner for pit entry, so made it back to pits, and no pit crew work started 😕 so without looking I presume there must have been other unrepairable damage, so I had to dnf. Will have another go soon for a full distance race to test random crashes/stability 👍

Any other options you suggest for Dosbox ECE? It says I need to request access, and after nearly 48 hours I haven't received it so I can't get to the download files for it. Thanks!

Can I recommend this as a series, because I'd love to get GPL running on my PC

I'm very late but before running the game make sure to place a "-h" (without quotes) this will make the game run correctly at the resolution of the video shown for example in your dosbox once you are in the game folder type INDYCAR.EXE -h

As from today 29/01/2023 Indycar racing 2 pc game The update patch has been taken off there website, I downloaded it yesterday and saved the website page, But when you try to go onto Indycar racing 2 patch update, It says something about conflicting ssl and tls decyer, Basically ignore that because patch is not there anymore or for time being I suppose. It was working the patch download Website was working OK yesterday. So TBH I really don't understand.

@@GPLaps I was only able to download that patch only once few days ago Since then even with your link it just says website unsafe and then shows ssl not matching or conflicting so I've never been able to get back on that website. It's the same thing with grand prix legends SRMZ WEBSITE, IF won't allow my pc , or android phone or even ipad to go onto that site either, I got dosbox to install with indycar 2. Its mounted the drive correctly in dosbox But it say (Unable to change to: ICR2, I KNOW indycar 2 is downloaded correctly because I copied the says indycar 2 game files to a blank disk including patch and that disk works perfectly on a old Windows XP laptop plus i have the original indycar 2 disc from 1995 and compared files and they all match The original indycar 2 disk from 1995 was the 1.01 patch version So I am at a lost about dosbox and indycar 2 on Windows 10 I've followed your instructions yesterday and made sure I did not miss or make any mistakes Lol I spent most of yesterday trying to get indycar 2 working with dosbox As I say dosbox mounted the drive indycar 2 is in correctly CD ICR2 Unable to change to: ICR2. YET if I type in Dir it shows ICR2 in the directory. Please accept my apologies for disturbing you and I enjoy watching your channel.
