IndyCar Racing 2 + Thrustmaster T2 = teenager who spent alot of time in his bedroom

Good old days!! Remember how I spent nights and nights trying to improve my laptimes.. thank you for bringing it back to us!

My first PC game back in December 1993 was the first Indy Car Racing on a DX2/66 with Soundblaster Pro and Gravis Analogue Pro Joystick!

best racing game ever.

This layout of Long Beach was so great. The run onto the backstraight where you're gradually building speed through the right/left/right bit was fantastic. Such a good flow.

This was a blast from the past! I only bought a handful of games after I got my first mac in 1995 and this one was awesome (even though I didn't play it that often). Thank you for a trip into nostalgia and the thorough descriptions.

Indycar in general deserves more love

Awesome to see this brought back. Papyrus/Sierra were THE racing company of the 1990's: the Indycar games, the whole NASCAR series with Grand National and Trucks and many official track add-ons, NASCAR Legends, and Grand Prix Legends of course. My personal favorite was SODA Off-Road Racing, which had a great track editor feature. If you had the PC to run it, these games looked amazing in their day.

I have fond memories of this (and various other classic PC games) I would play on my dads' computer in the mid 90's.

Dude that was awesome! Please do more of IndyCar Racing II! It's what got me into motorsports back in 1998 and therefor defined my life. 1995 IndyCar was the best racing ever, probably heavily romanticized by this game and from only watching back the races, not hearing about the politics behind the scenes as I didn't follow racing back then.

Love it! I just recently got into sim racing so I have never seen this, its amazing with how far we have come! But this looks like it still holds up well today. I think the only thing that would be annoying is dosbox. I wish I got into sim racing earlier and got to experience all these great games :(

For mid '90s racing sim, the graphic looks like a million dollars, so does the physics.

How do you get a wheel running in ICR2? I'm trying to use a DFGT, but the calibration just spazzes out, and the menus are unusable since the highlighter is constantly moving down.

D is to change your dash display, you can press A while in-car to accelerate time. I'd love to see an IndyCar season but really I personally enjoy watching anything you race, so just do what you want. Although, I'd really love to finally see that 1970 NASCAR Darlington race you posted a practice for... Oh, and quite interesting, you first GPL race and first IndyCar race both end with mechanical failures haha.

Reminds me a lot of Indianapolis 500: The Simulator which, of course, was a precursor to this game :)

can anyone help me find a download of the Indianapolis motor speedway for ICR2? the icr2.net forums require registration to download, but you can't complete registration because it is not being managed

Also fun facts about ICR2 Yes it was rereleased as CART racing in1996-7 It didn't have INdy or Miami or many of the backmarkers due to licensing issues D to toggle dash modes Long Beach changed the track layout in 1998 due to city works and went to the 'modern' layout there. F1 ran a whole other layout with two or three hairpins in the 70s and 80s

GPLaps, do you use a soundmod? I recently installed this game but the sound is not as good as in your vids. Tried searching in icr2.net but for some reason i can not activate my account so not possible to download mods

Good stuff! I didn't have this one myself but I did get my first sim racers i think not too many years from then. (Microprose's) Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500: The Simulation, later followed by Grand Prix 2. Any one of those would be a blast from the past to see raced again. Is there any chance you have any of those?!

I've got all of those! Indianapolis 500: The Simulation is actually one of (or actually) the first race sim for the PC. Atleast the first one that made it big. Grand Prix wasn't far behind. I think Indy 500 was released in 1989, so Indycar Racing II was a whole 6 years later!

+GPLaps yes, indy500 is from papyrus, their games are indy500 -> indycar1 -> nascar1 -> indycar2/cart -> nascar2 -> ...etc etc still around doing iracing, you two should check the interview that talks about indy500's development (too bad i forgot where i read it... it was either about papyrus or the story towards iracing)

Is this the Windows version? I've only used the DOS version (and I guess it had a better intro), but it looks like this version has better graphics. I can get the DOS version running easily with the DOSBox emulator, but I'd doubt I'd be able to get the Windows version working on 64 bit (or so I've heard). I can't find the Windows version online anywhere. Where did you get this one?

+Josh Russell the windows95 version has a mouse cursor & ugly menus, but all versions are the exact same graphics, you must be confusing with 320x200 mode vs 640x480 now the other thing is... this game was rereleased as cart racing, without indianapolis, with a different intro on detroit instead of laguna seca finally, at least on cart racing (what i owned), there was a special version for rendition graphics cards, it offered texture filtering & a few more objects on the side of the track oh i guess about the win95 version, you obviously shouldnt try to run it native... just use a virtual machine that can run win95, the game is software rendered (except the rendition version i mentioned) so it's entirely on the cpu, should be fine with today's hardware... i'm not sure if the original cd has it, i want to say it does

Anyone know where I could grab the Miami and Indy tracks? I have CART Racing
