We're exercising our own national interest that's why we brought China to the tribunal and won. Chinese propaganda always painted and blamed the US for our actions, but we simply are taking advantage of the security pact and the mutual defense treaty for now.

Its like India's position between Russia and the west. You tread the fine line carefully. No one should dictate how you do it. You do as your interest goes.

I think the problem for your Palki is this China is doing business with these ASEAN countries on its own terms but these ASEAN countries and most of them are happy with these terms. That is your biggest problem. Chinese are probably more skilled diplomat to get the ASEAN countries on board with them rather than the other way round. With countries like Indonesia or Vietnam they are diplomatically very smart, they get Chinese investment as well as western investment by playing a balancing act, India and US and its allies try to get these countries to join their anti-China game but by not committing to either that is called smart. Small country like them can lecture people like Modi or Jaishenka a lot about international politics.

It is natural for a Super Power to have good relations with its region. Just like the US and South America under the Monroe Doctrine. India to will become a Super Power in the future but has to address Inequality with the Untouchables, Women Rights; Infrastructure and a truly Multi Ethnic Society. All these challenges I am certain India would overcome but requires changes to political and economic systems

Singapore, the smartest country, as well as the most successful one in ASEAN, has been playing smart geopolitical balancing games between super powers for decades, for the maximum benefit of the country, without being squeezed and sacrificed as cannon fodder by the US or China. Filipino people always look at the success of Singapore with envy, and wonder why they can't replicate the best practices in their homeland and why their country is still deeply trapped in US colony mentality without a clear way out. Truth hurts. A smart leader plays smart geopolitical games and invites American and Chinese companies to build factories in order to generate jobs and increase revenue, while a clueless leader easily gets emotional like a kid, often is played by geopolitical players as chess pieces, invites foreign military to build bases in order to generate tensions and increase the risk of conflicts, and sacrifices the country's development and trade. Japan and S. Korea can sit down for negotiations and cooperations, despite of their long time disputes over the sovereignty of the Liancourt Rocks in the sea between them. That is political wisdom and diplomatic maturity on full display. Other countries such as China and the Philippines can definitely learn from S. Korea and Japan to manage their difference on South China Sea, Taiwan, MILF or whatever, and develop their relationship.
