Those who dream to live are ridiculed and shamed, those who talk openly abt living are threatened to shut up, those who actually live are isolated by society or lynched and defamed, many ppl give up in first stage after getting shamed for dreaming to live a dignitious life, and start existing with all burdens of inhuman traditions made by man, due to fear of abandonment.

This moved me. Seeing those young girls in class learning to read and write smiling and looking happy brought tears to my eyes.

I cannot believe in the 21st century we are still talking about a caste system and discrimination that victimizes women and children. Why is the government of India not doing enough? Respect the teacher and the NGOs that are stepping in and making a difference.

The Indians will just blame the British, as they usually do, for all of their problems and their failures, and under the current Modi regime they've made it hard for NGOs to operate mainly because it shames the Indians and shows the world how little the GOI is actually doing for it's own people! Caste was banned under Dr Ambedkar's excellent secular constitution in 1950, but as usual with the Indians they just ignore the laws that they don't like, and corruption plays its part too! It is what it is.

Even only fans, as horrible as it is, is still a “choice” for most people. These women in India don’t have a choice and for many it’s the ONLY one. That’s the difference. As she says, no one in her family had jobs and her sister “had” to get married. Why does her sister HAVE TO get married? Because of tradition and culture in this place. Fight for change in your own country and support women. Stop comparing to other countries and to justify the issues in your own. It’s not about other countries it’s about India.

My heart breaks for these girls and their families. Education is the freedom that the rich don't want the poor to find.

Prostitution in the West is legalized at least in Germany and it is made by Eastern European women, mostly Romanian, Ukrainian, and from the Balkans. @@SumanBhowmickdarkside

Why are they (DW) ignoring the child sexual exploitation cases in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Norway, and Sweden, etc... hmmmm. The data clearly shows that immigrants are vastly overrepresented. It's disappointing how Indian people and the government have failed to recognise the struggles and create systems for seamless integration of historically nomadic tribes of India since independence and even in modern India. They have always been an important part of Indian culture and society, but it's sad to see a day where they have to struggle to feed their families and access education due to their caste (nomadic tribes). Amazing documentary by DW! 🙌🏼

Nomadic has nothing to do with caste system, firstly tribes weren’t part of caste system. They were openly welcomed if they visited any town or village. So I don’t know how we were not integrated before. Yes british pushed them in jungles even further. Read about that, when their land was commercialised and sold to outsiders.

The government didn't force others or forced them into it. Their elders forced them to be this way. They evolved slowly while the rest didn't. The country needs to address children not allowed to be registered if they dont have their fathers name. Thats absolutely absurd!

Its actually not required by law. There are several single women who have adopted children in India, including former Miss Universe Susmita Sen and Bollywood Actress Raveena Tandon. So it's not something necessary. But only something that school made up to perpetuate prejudice, they wouldn't have any need for 'father's' name if the mother is filthy rich

no need to mention the name of the father, also no need to mention caste, but people mention caste in school certificate because this is a document for future and there are reservation for higher studies and in getting jobs, and low caste will be eligible even though their rank and marks are low.

Great reporting! A friend of mine in Florida is a florist and works occasionally doing weddings for Indian people. You'll be surprised to hear that those wealthy Indians living in the US spend over $100,000 just in flowers. I've heard that some bills go over $250,000. I wonder if those wealthy Indians living here do some volunteer work in India to help the lower casts. That's another topic for DW to explore. Cheers.

Poor are poor because of their mentality, it is not about caste. Today because of govt initiative dalit or untouchable are becoming millionaire and billionaires in india. And these people in videos are certainly not poor. Earning 80000 a month with no skill is a big deal in india

But they (DW) won't talk about the issue in Europe because too many of the abusers and racists are immigrant Muslims while the victims are native European girls. Why are they (DW) ignoring the child sexual exploitation cases in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Norway, and Sweden, etc... hmmmm. The data clearly shows that immigrants are vastly overrepresented. This is why they won't investigate the problem. 89% of groomers in the Netherlands have an immigrant background, and 60% are Muslims, while most victims in the Netherlands are Dutch girls, not immigrant girls. The vast majority of victims in the UK are British girls, not immigrant girls.

This breaks my heart I would love to give one of these ladies a home. It is such a cruel world. 💔

I just came from my second trip to India. Been to New Delhi Jaipur Agra and Mumbai. Experienced the grandiosity of India too. Visited slums ! I found love for India ! I hope for those who are suffering under this tradition be free someday. We are all equal in the eyes of God. Many countries can be with any race but I found how special India is. No one can ever be Indian enough except Indians that's how special and beautiful they are.

I hope these women and men are able to overcome their current challenges. Education will open new doors, and I really hope these young women can have a brighter and better future.

@@offred6013 legally untouchability is outlawed but cast system is still alive and is practiced at every walk of life. Just see the priests of templs they are all exclusively Brahmins. Look at all the lowly jobs such as street sweepers, manual scavengers all are given to the Dalits. caste system enforces strict endogamy. Honour killing of couples who dare to marry outside from from their caste is still not uncommon. Caste system is against love. The people who deny that cast system doesn't exist or it is practiced sporadically come from the oppressor caste who enjoy the privilegeds of the Caste system

The teacher is so inspirational. Frustrated by seeing the women around him sell their bodies, he teaches himself to read and write, and is now responsible for saving other families from this fate. Legend.

Amazing documentary! I hope all the girls get educated and break out of the shackles of the caste hierarchy one day.
