no, its because life is competitive, and everyone has their issues. attacking others is an easy way for people to feel better by feeling superior, and the easiest way to get that feeling is attacking others over insecurities and weakness. People who do this generally do so out of being hurt themselves in some way, but thats many people even if self induced, so we have many people who mock and bully other. some forms of bullying is completely healthy, biological and constructive, but thats defined by exclusively targeting negative qualities that are changable and typically ones that limit your contribution to groups.

Never calling anyone short again. His first few words were enough for me to realize how much trauma he has built up inside. "Many people, not me, have always had a problem with my height." Broke my heart because I'm taller than most people at 6ft but never realized calling people short is F'ing rude asf. Just grew up with that bad habit unfortunately.

I knew a girl who had this procedure because she had leukemia as a child and her growth stopped at 149 cm. After years of complications she was eventually 15 cm taller, but her bones were weaker so she could no longer run and jump, as they would just snap. The thing is that after all this, her body is very disproportionate, and that is what people notices now. So not worth it. We are all different. Unconditional love is the answer.

I had this surgery but because of the deformity in my leg, not because of height (even tho I'm just 156cm) my doctor decided not to lenghten my leg because of a high risk of complications, still I had a nerve failure and haven't fully recovered to this day. To know that people do this for beauty just blows my ming. It's the most painfull, excruciating thing in medicine...

at least the doctor admitted how ridiculous the procedure is just for cosmetic reasons. some doctors downplay the risks involved.

This broke my heart i am literally crying, as a meducal professional i've seen many maaany people with that external fixator devices that got infected and i've done many wound dressing for them , the pain is unimaginable my heart was shattered into pieces when i remembered their faces in pain To see someone willingly undergoing this type of procedure made me even sadder , i understand his pain i feel him and he doesn't had to go through all that pain just to please people There's nothing wrong with him , his height is normal and he is a handsome and successful man and he deserves to be loved for who is he If he just had more support and affirmative words he would've avoided all that unnecessary pain Bless his heart i hope he fully recovered from that procedure and he is in a better place now both mentally and physically

It took me yearssss before I could finally accept and love my facial and body features. It's far from the beauty standard society has installed to people, but I love every inch of it. My legs take me to places I need to, and I'm on a healthy scale. My hands allow me to work from home, helps me do my make up, can cook, can do basic household chores, and I'm grateful for it. I wish people the same, so we would never feel the need of validation from other people.

If he's making decisions to alter his body to fit the expectation of strangers then he's already lost the battle. He has allowed himself to be defined. You're 100% right. This world is filled with insecure people trying to define you with the sole purpose of making themselves feel superior. But every once in a while you meet a pure soul who cherishes you for who you are. These people are selfless and compassionate and most importantly, honest. These are the people you should allow to define you. If the man in the video waited just a little longer he would have realised this too.

he's almost certainly lying about the languages. it's not possible to have functional adult proficiency in that many languages without making it the sole focus of your life.

My height is 5 feet 3 inches and I am from India. Being a man who is 26 years old I can say that its hard to be short if you are man. I was mocked, humiliated and I was always put down by everyone be it my so called friends, parents or my siblings. It was hard for me to make friends or have normal conversation with anyone. Always while talking to my parents or elder sister they very subtly would bring my height into it and used to say disrespectful things. But now I have made peace with everything. I cannot change height. Mostly it depends on your genes and environment in which you are brought up. Even my mother is so short and father also not too tall but they want a tall son. And people in my school and college who disrespected me because of being short was not about height, it was about making me insecure because I had better grades than them. So to people who are short I have to say that its not your fault. First accept that you are short and there is nothing wrong in that. Work on your skills, be best in it. You can be an unattractive person but useful person too.

A boy at my school at the age of about 11 has dwarfism and just recently got this surgery to grow taller. He seems pretty healthy and his friends help him navigate around school. I just hope it works out well for him after learning what could be the consequences or side effects after watching this video.

I mean it's very different especially if it's for people with specific types of dwarfism, some people with it have very bowed legs which could lead to chronic pain later in life, so the surgery probably makes more sense for them vs this perfectly healthy man

I am 31 years old and have 158 cm height (almost the same as his). I can genuinely understand his pain and the reasons behind this drastic decision. In school, fellow students constantly bullied and made fun of me because of my height. No one cared how intelligent I was. At my job, many of my colleagues made fun of me. I've seen people getting harassed because of their heights. Most of the harasser themselves can be consider as short. I used to hate my height but now I'm a bit over it now but it still hurts me when people make fun of my height. I kept comparing myself to my friends or to other people I know and how much shorter I am compared to them. Update: The amount of snarky and "clever" comments here is the exact reason why I'm so glad that my husband doesn't let people like this bother him at all. It's just funny how these men commenting specifically searched and chose to watch this kind of content just to leave more insults. im 6'2, its weird cause I dont feel like a tall man a lot of the time cause of my environment, after seeing the lengths men will go to in order for other people to respect it hurts me, I can obviously never relate to the cruelty ppl have to go through cause of it but it definitely inspires you to always treat all men with the upmost respect, humans are cruel.

Interesting self-leveling system on that two ring support-stretcher! I had no idea that interoscular nails were put down the long bones to maintain longitudinal and lateral stability. It makes sense. Not my call, but it seems to me that such surgery might best be reserved for treating deformities and length/alignment anomalies due to accidents or congenital defects.

It’s very unfortunate that this brilliant man went so far just to make others happy. During thanksgiving I went to a wedding where the groom is 5’ and the bride is 5’11, no joke. The groom has the ego of a 6’4 man and is very accomplished professional in Education. I’m sure people weren’t kind to him either especially when he was younger but his spirit radiates through the room. He has a large group of friends and his wife adores him. Learn to love yourself and others will gravitate towards you.

Equating a countries height differences over time in terms of health and nourishment seems wrong. Are humans supposed to just keep getting taller and taller? What study or information do you have that says being shorter = less healthy?

I wonder how he is feeling after a year since this was uploaded. I learnt early on that you just can't please everyone. So even though he unfortunately has taken drastic measures to please others (even his friends of 15-20 years!), this is not guarantee it will help the mental and emotional pain he has experienced all his life because the people he is surrounded by are absolute pricks. I really hope he stands up to this disgusting behaviour and gets treated with the respect he deserves.

My brother had this procedure done in the eighties because he was born one leg shorter than the other. He ended getting addicted to opiates early in life because of the pain from the surgery and subsequent physical therapy. He died five years ago from a fentanyl od. He is at peace now no more pain. Rip JJS.

That is so true, just think about it, every time somebody sees a kid from somebody's somebody's kids per se. That's the first thing they say, oh, he's so tall, nobody says oh, he's so sure as I'm positive, and they say that to apparent parents with kids and the kids hear it and it's something constanttly. I'll keep hearing that people are making them feel less just because I shoulder if he's willing to go to that pain. That means it's really worth it

They do something similar in North America called spinal fusion. They literally bolt screws into the person spine to straighten it.

and now you have kids trying to break their bones in the spine with hammers so they grow back “better.” Literally no clue how it would work but that’s the idea. I KNOW people who try this and they always have pain in the spine.

I'm a short guy myself (5'5 ft. or 165 cm), I have always been insecure about my height and I used to want to get this kind of medical surgery to increase my height even a few inches. But now that I have grown more mature, I have just accepted that it is what it is, and am now always trying to be content with what I have.

That's average height in India which is 5'5. It's definitely not 5'8, only one website claims that. Countless other websites has listed average Indian male as 5'5 for years.

Height discrimination is the most acceptable form of discrimination in the world and it doesn't get any airtime like gender or race discrimination.

It hurts my heart every time somebody gets some kind of surgery because they don't like the way they look. but going through pain like this, is another level!!! it is so sad that society makes people torture themselves in order to fit in........ The emotional pain is so great, that they willingly go through these procedures. For guys it's height and girls it's color! We call ourselves modern India but our minds are still stuck in the old ages! When will our society understand it's not OK to body shame anyone! The pain 9/10 is true. I was involved in a vehicular accident before which caused my tibia to have infections. My ilizarov is now 6 months with me. The first two months were so painful that everytime i adjust the screws (1mm a day) i can feel my skin being torn. My 3rd month was where i started walking without the aide of crutch or anything to hold on. Now in my 5-7th month i can now do basic exercises such as squats, knee strengthening etc. The challenging part of having this ilizarov is the inability to walk for a long time after the surgery. My doctors suspected me having knee contractions due to movement restraints before. Life with ilizarov is really not easy.

@@james2479 ​ ​ I know you didn’t ask me but do gather as much information as you can before you do the procedure, talk to people and be conscious of the risks. Even if it’s in accidents or for cosmetics the Ilizarov can cause problems. I’ve used a Ilizarov apparatus for broken bones but I wouldn’t put my feet on the floor for a long time, which I think is why seeing the man on the documentary walking after his operation gave me chills, but I understand those are probably different things with different instructions post-operative. Read about what you can do to increase your chance of not having any kind of complications and do them like your life depends on it. I know some cases of infections can happen to even the most careful post operative patient, but if you do the procedure take every step of the post operative procedure like religion. Like cleaning the wounds to reduce chance of infection, and follow your doctors orders on what you should and should not do. The dude on the documentary from what I saw tried to tightening the screws more than he should, so you’ll have to come in terms that you’ll have to follow everything strictly, and for a long time. Get a good doctor with lots of experience as well. The best you can. I say, do it, bro, if that’s what you want. But be careful with recovery please. If not, maybe cognitive behavioral therapy could help you also to accept yourself and be happy with who you are - but this also takes months, lots and lots of therapy and find one therapist that you bond with, which is always beneficial. Whatever you do, be safe dude. Wish you the best. Just really do everything you can and more with tips and how you can prevent infections and subsequent pain, and even other complications, but know that even if you do everything right you still can get one, but you’re lowering your risks considerably. But never to 0. Find a doctor who will instruct you how to rest your leg correctly, how much complete resting/walking you should do exactly, what you should and should not, on details. Cleaning routine, everything. One doctor that passes you confidence and seem to care about your well-being as they should (but not all do). Be safe.

Despite such rejections I learnt that being employed does not make you happy. The secret ingredient is accept who you are and how far you have come to achieve your dream. I am a "short" man myself and I have felt many of the same things that he's going through especially in the marriage market. It's really sad that a man's intellect, his ability, honesty, and ability to provide means little unless he's absolutely within the top 1% of society. I cannot say what he's doing is wrong as it's his life and his body. All I can hope for is that he recovers completely and speedily and get's the respect and attention that he was denied for so long. Man height shaming is worse than fat shaming. You can’t do anything about someone’s height but you can absolutely change your weight in a few months. You can change your income, lifestyle and wealth in a few years too. How is it okay to make people feel that they are inadequate when you know there is nothing they can do about it. This should be taught or ingrained in to people from an early age.

Sadly being a genius in academics does not give people the aptitude to discern the type of people to listen to and the type of people who are meaningless and thus should be avoided and ignored at all cost. "Do you still feel that once you gain height, the problems that existed for you will disappear?" "I hope so." "It was always the height that most people had an issue with." "There was never anything else." It's like his mindset is fixed on being validated by the very people who brought him down and that's just sad. I've seen people who are literal dwarfs and short people the same height as him or even less who are happy because they hang out with a great crowd. I'm pretty sure I don't want to live in that place either because out of all your talents they still find a way to bring him down? Bunch of envious bitter people I am glad I'm not associated nor introduced to.

After 20-30 years of getting the exact same critique from people, I honestly can't blame him at all. People in the comments keep commenting about how he needs self confidence, this, and that, but imagine the thing you were bullied for as a kid. Imagine that never got left behind and haunted you into your adult life? Into a life that's ever more online and harder than ever to escape from. Im also a short lad who gets jokingly asked if I'd get this procedure, and get called some awful stuff as allusions to my height. But that guy was dealing with the same struggle I do for longer than I've been alive. He's got literal decades of torment on me that when I consider my own emotions on the matter, I can see how that was where he ended up. I could sit here with measly 10+ years of bullying, and cast judgment, and say something like "I get made fun of but I just deal with it", but that doesn't address the fact this is a global intergenerational problem that we as a species need to get over. People are different in a plethora of ways, let's not let something as superficial as height be where we start casting stones.

Hear hear from someone with above average height. It is crazy being so fussed with height. It means nothing. If every short person was made 6' tall or above tomorrow it would just change the bar for shortness. It is just a relative thing with no practical value in modern life. Apart from the risks this poor man took to stop the bullying (and no doubt rejection from women - often short themselves and well matched to his height) there have been even worse interventions. In Australia there was a belief that really short people should be given HGH to bring up their height and social status. Natural HGH was obtained from corpses and a lot got hit with a batch that gave them brain tumors. Hey for the record I worked with a guy who was quite short. When he got hit with the usual quip at a work function: "David stand on a chair so we can see you." He replied "No! You stand on a chair if you want to see me!" Classic and something that short people should file away.

This story breaks my heart. Sometimes people do this kind of like making fun of someone's height, weight and complexity just because they can feel superior. 2 years back I gained weight and people were constantly around me pin-pointing me every time, constantly telling me that I needed to loose weight or else I will be fat. Then I started working due to work pressure I lost weight then again "The same people" started telling me I need to gain weight as I look like a stick. Recently a boy told me I need to gain weight as boys prefer "MASS" on the body. My entire life people have commented on my body, weight, color or something or other. This is not going to stop. This whole scenario made me realise nothing can make people around us happy we just need to be strong and happy and that will be our revenge on them. I still have insecurities but that doesn't mean I will let people get on my mind and ruin me. I am perfect and I am strong. I pray to god that Mukesh has a speedy recovery and lives happier life.

@@gothrough123mm No that's totally false. What do you mean by a medical condition? Thyroid disorder can slow down metabolism and the body consumes fewer calories for base operations. But this effect is not as bad as some fat people want others to believe. Let's say you are a fit person who eats 2400 calories/day. But suddenly you develop thyroid issues and due to your slower metabolism, your body requires only 2000 calories/day. That means you are eating 400 calories more each day. It will take you approximately 3 months to gain 5 kilograms with your otherwise "healthy eating". Note that a difference of 400 calories is on the upper end. Most people would have a small change in their metabolism rate. For a difference of 200 calories, it will take you 6 months to gain 5 kilograms of weight. It will take you "years" to become extremely obese. Approximately 3 years to gain 25 kilograms. Now my questions to you are..... Why did you allow yourself to become obese? We are talking about years. Why didn't you exercise and try to burn an extra 200 calories? Just 25 minutes of daily cycling at a moderate pace. This is an example of a person with a thyroid issue, who eats healthy, who eats only 200 calories more than a regular fit person. This is the ideal medical condition you are talking about. And this condition is manageable with just 25 minutes of daily cycling. Most obese people eat like pigs. They eat 2x or 3x more than the daily intake. And that's why they gain weight so quickly. A person eating 2000 calories more than required would need 4 hours of daily cycling at a moderate pace to burn those extra 2000 calories. Do you think that an obese person can ride a bicycle for 4 hours? No, because they eat like pigs, otherwise, Peter Sagan would have been a fat person. Those extra 2000 calories are stored as fat every single day. Who is to blame? oh YEAH....."I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION....." You said "Also, for some people due to medical conditions it's tough to change their weight. Doesn't matter how much they try......" Your comment is very ignorant. They just need to do 20 - 30 minutes of cycling. They just need to manage their daily intake of calories. If you are eating 3000 calories then you must burn 3000 calories by doing physical activity to achieve a net zero. This is physics 101. LOL

I bet all those who bullied him for his height are just jealous at his other achievement. I really wish someone told him to not compare his weakness to someone's strength. I wish he travelled more before the surgery to see that there are more than one 'correct' ways of doing life, and marriage

Years ago, I had the llizarov external fixator applied. Fortunately today it is a much simpler procedure and brace

I‘m a woman with pectus excavatum, which basically means my ribs are kinda carved inward. Looks like a „hole“ in my chest. Was ridiculed a lot for my body and already had lots of bullying going on anyways. So I decided to try to fix it surgically. Got a metal bar put into my chest, fixated with screws on my ribs for three years. I could hear the metal bar every time I moved and feel it rubbing against my bones. Still feel it while writing this even though it‘s been taken out this year.

This surgery is a commendable masterpiece in medical field. Not just this case, but we have handicapped patients who have one limb shorter and need support for life. Wow 9 languages and has multiple masters degrees, who cares about height, you are awesome! I wish I was able to speak 9 languages, I barely know 3 and I have just 1 undergraduate degree. You don't need to be taller, that's just superficial. I wish I have as many masters degrees like you and be able to speak multiple languages. That's just amazing, not everyone can accomplish that. You know what, everytime someone critizes me for something so useless, I just start laughing at their faces, because inside of my mind, I imagine them wearing a clown custom with paint on their face. I've had to go through this as well. But I take it as what it is, a challenge. If all humans were equal it would be so boring. My teacher once said, half of the joke was true. I also received a lot of Jokes from friends but its fine, sometimes we really have to encounter people who are straight forward and insensitive. Maybe we can just look on these things as trials, the training stage in order to become stronger.

The surgery exists around the world, we've seen people in the US getting this surgery as well. There's a lot of pressure in men into being tall in fear of being ridiculed for attributes they can't control. It's a bit sad when a person you're interested is five foot even but refuses to acknowledge you as a potential dating partner just because you were 2 inches away from 6 feet tall. That's when you realize as a person that they don't want you in their life on an emotional level, but rather a show piece to their family and friends about " I met this tall guy".

The sacrifice is too great for a basic height increase. Those same women who only accept a tall guy would also laugh at the fact that you are now disproportionate, can’t walk right, and (presumably) cannot lift any weight with the legs due to messing with the body’s balance.

Being 19 and 5’4 in the US, I can’t say it doesn’t bother me sometimes but these past few years I barely notice it anymore. Everything else in life has been amazing. I have perfect health, I hit the gym 4 days week, attend a flight school to become an airline pilot, have an amazing girlfriend, a loving and supportive family, a great group of friends, etc. I’ve learned to not care as much as I did when I was younger. I actually enjoy joking around about it now(not too self deprecating, that’s cringe and uncomfortable) because my friends will make equally funny and deep jokes about themselves. I’m at a point in life where no one disrespects me because of my height and anyone that does I find kinda cringey and tryhard. Usually the people that try to make fun of my height I judge too. They’re obese, high school drop outs, bitchless, jobless, homeless, druggies, etc. Anyone that disrespects me because of my height I naturally see them as insecure themselves. It’s hard to be insulted by someone who treats others like trash in general. The secret is to judge others before they judge you, lol

Hey i am almost same height as yours and i kinda felt like this while i was in my teenage. Now growing up i have so many challenges, i workout and eat clean. I don't have to bother about what others think of me. I have my family and a loving partner as well. Life in not about how people treat you. Its about how you treat yourself. Finding reasonable people and friends with common sense is one of the steps. Remember, people on their teens: choose your friends carefully. If they throw insensitive comments, tell them to fuck off and build your own confidence. Don’t let anyone push your boundaries. Those are not friends and you’ll soon figure out that once you leave college (unless you have authentic friends), you’ll mostly likely never hear from anyone ever again and you’ll forget their names quickly. Go to college. Work. Party. Start your business. Whatever you wanna do. Live your life and have fun. Respect yourself first. The world is yours. Where I live tho I’ve never seen people being bullied for their height, but I do live in Brazil. Never had in my 26 years a bro come to me and say people are bullying them for their height or that girls won’t date them because of that. One of my friends in college was way shorter than me (I’m a woman, 1.63), and that dude got all the pussy one could get. Way more than me and prob more than the all the students of our course combined. He was pretty self-confident tho. An amazing guy also. Go for it guys, and if becomes too hard get the help you need, wether it’s therapy or surgery - it’s your call and your call only - just do it safely.

being an 19 year old and 5 feet tall guy, I fully relate to all his past traumas that have led him to this point. No matter where I go, I am always getting taunted by the people through these pathetic jokes and beatings that put you down. No matter what people say, we humans tend to judge people on the basis of their physical appearance, choose to talk to them on the basis of their physical appearance, form relationships on the basis of their physical appearance. And it's alright to have such standards, what's not alright is the hypocrisy people go around saying that things like height, skin, beauty, doesn't matter, while going on having a preference to select potential partners on the basis of all those factors. That and the gradual bullying and rejection that accumulates to a level that it leads to such painful procedures. Even the mundane things in life don't leave mocking you - not able to grab the hand supports hanging above on the trains and busses to stand amidst the crowd, not able to reach things, not able to get pass the physical exams for exams and what not. This is the hypocrisy of the world

I mean, this world is not made for left handed people. They either learn to be somewhat ambidextrous and adapt. People with SpEd needs are not always accommodated and they learn to deal with it. I understand that it is tough, this is a cruel plane. Many do not even have the accese to go this extreme and I truly question the long term issues of doing this crap. I understand those with dwarfism doing this because they face many complications by not doing it. Your confidence in yourself also goes into how others treat you as well. There have been plenty of short warriors in their time. The world will reject you for one reason or another, you don't have to agree.

I'm a 37yo woman, I'm 5'1" (154.5cm). My height has always been an issue for me, I was also bullied (as an adult) by colleagues, friends,... I was planning on getting this surgery but after watching this I realize that I must heal from the trauma and learn to love myself just the way I am.

Well am an Indian Student aged 18 years and my height is close to 6 ft but not 6, just little bit past 5'11 and a half, the thing that i wanna say is that yeah an average indian male is 5'6 or 5'7 heighted but they dont face any problem cz max population is like that, only very few are like 5'3 or 5'4 for which they get discriminated, (* not in the corporate world but in the social forum very much). Parents with a daughter heighted 4'11 can very much reject a dude who is 5'3, and this fact is extremely sadening. Plus if i take referrence from this vid, he legit has 4 degrees, is an engineer, and passed airforce interview round, an absolute incredible achievement, still couldnt get a girl who would love her. Too brutal

I’m sad for anyone who experiences such anxiety and insecurity about an aspect of their appearance that they feel the need to resort to extreme surgeries or procedures to try and “fix” their perceived flaw.

I'm 4'9 and I can relate. I once heard a cousin who is much taller talked about my family (my parents are short so I and my siblings are all much shorter than them) that we are "dwarf", in school teachers teased us too... I once considered doing this surgery, but not any more. I realize that I shouldn't let the way other ppl talk about me change the way I feel about myself and what I can achieve in my life. And besides that, for a woman, shorter = younger, cuter, more choices (men usually like women who are shorter than them). So I learn to live happily with myself. I'm also a business woman and doing very well. But I understand it is much harder for men, especially in Asian, where body-shaming is normal and anyone can talk about that, freely and loudly. That's why ppl should never body shaming others for things that they can't control, it can litterally destroys their lives.

I feel so lucky i genetically have good height(6"3) for which people would literally take to take risk even if i was 5 foot i would never had courage to do that.

I'm 5ft 0 and I want to be tall ,that is as far as it goes, I am just grateful for my body because some people don't have fully functioning bodies like I do for example the handicap, those who are on dialysis, some with botched bodies, I live in appreciation of my body to honour and respect those people.

@@tainanking Same. And taller people can't catch their weight as well as short people could, so it's true that the bigger you are, the harder you fall. I'm only 162 cm (5'4") and wish I were taller, at least because it's difficult to reach things myself, but I'm fine with it otherwise because at least my health is okay. However, we do tend to have cardiovascular issues compared to tall people, but aside from that issue, tall people are likelier to suffer from heart arrhythmias than we are, and shorter peopletend to live longer than tall people in general, for some reason, too. Same applies to dogs. I had a medium-size dog and a large-size dog, with the big dog being younger, but the older dog outlived our younger one, who also suffered from hip dysplasia when he got older.

Yeah it's brutal. I understand why he would do this personally as someone who is extremely short but i would never consider this surgery. mostly because of the complications and because while your bone will grow, the muscle wont and your physical ability will be reduced

I don't understand why we always blame these men, and never point the fingers to the people that have bullied them their whole life for something they have no control over. We all know how families can be, how they wear us down for everything we "failed" to be, and how society can be cruel and all. I'm a 5'1 man myself and have been subjected to bullying and harrasment a lot. It takes a toll on your mental health a lot. I don't wanna have this surgery but I must say the pain of bullying is too much...
