Transgender in Pakistan | DW Documentary
Sunny is a trans person living in Pakistan. She begs in order to survive. Others get by as sex workers or dancers. As an expert for transgender issues at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Reem Sharif found a way to support her community.
Trans people in Pakistan are frequently cast out by their families and live in poverty. They can find safe spaces and a new family in special centers. Here, they do not have to hide and discover that they are not alone in their fight for survival and recognition in Pakistan’s conservative society.
Only around 10 thousand people of Pakistan’s population of 220 million are officially counted as members of the “third gender,” yet it’s estimated that the true figure may be as high as 300 thousand.

There are lots of trans people in both countries and it's unfortunate that many people in the west do not realize this. I am deeply hurt by the accusations and discrimination against people of different cultures, races, and religions in our society. The root cause of this problem is the lack of education and awareness about diversity and inclusion. It's essential that we all take responsibility for educating ourselves and improving our understanding of other cultures. However, the question remains, how can we achieve this? We need collective action as a society to address this issue, rather than just relying on individual efforts. Unfortunately, even some of the groups that identify as 'we' face discrimination, making it even more challenging to achieve true equality and respect for all

🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Even here in Holland, people often discriminate someone, who's different and who's against conservative ideas. I know, I'm a childfree person. I never wanted a family, and I decided to be childfree, when I was a teenager myself, and after many years it didn't change, of course. I don't care, but some native Dutch people continue being angry about me. F*** all haters. Your life - your choice!

What i dont like is a trans man fighting real women with the strength of a man then wants to be treated like a woman... crazy world
Even a common woman's life is difficult in Pakistan.
As a Muslim man, it just show how some men in Islam are hypocrites. Citing the Qur'an and all, but will be the first to jump even on transwomen just to relieve them of their worldy needs. Sorry, not sorry.
Just curious..what about female to male transgender? ? Would their family just marry her off ? Instead of dealing with her gender identity..

It got dislikes because this documentary is making them victims and trying to make the God fearing people to humanize with these alphabet thugs. Just like in the west especially the U.S once they get power and they will try to silence the majority and enforce their lgbt agenda on us. Unacceptable!!
This is sad and beautiful at the same time... Beautiful because they have each other and sad because of the treatment..
Im a Pakistani born and raised guy. This documentary is both sad and equally positive, in that coming across transgender people in day to day life is a norm for most urban Pakistanis, as generally the community is openly welcomed at weddings and equally found on streets shopping and getting on with life. Attitudes will surely change with normalisation of the community taking up more responsible and professional roles. There is now likes of Dr Meerub and others who are well educated, articulate professionals braving their way into spheres once considered untouchable for the rest of the transgender or even LGBTQ community. Eventually, we all need to love and respect other human beings for just that fact, regardless of their gender or personal life choices.

This documentary talks about transgender people but we only get to meet transgender women. Where do trans men exist here? Do they have a voice? Are they more worried about money, harassment etc? Or are they able to blend into the background more easily? I’d be very interested to learn more.

Parents are more tolerant for trans 'daughters' and the society treats cross dressing women better so they are able to express themselves without being disowned and telling the world they are trans they can just cut their hair short and cross dress and live their life as another Pakistani would. (some parents might marry them off thinking that would fix their dysphoria tho)
I am watching this brilliant video for a second time, yet taking away disheartening outpour of emotions. "I am alone---just because of my reality" "I am not a criminal, I am a human being" "If you kill a dog on one side of the street and trans on the other; the dog has a value not the trans" What these guys go through is overwhelming. It is incumbent on all of humanity to embrace and protect one another.

Doctor here. Please understand that intersex people (ambiguous genitilia since birth) and transgender people (the ones who convert from their biological gender to the other one) are different. At least reputed channels like DW can provide this clarity. May both of these groups find love and peace.
I am very happy for the transgender people of Pakistan. They can cooperate actively. I hope more and more people will understand that human beings are just simply human beings.

God created Man and Woman, and only God can break that brokenness, the Lord Jesus Christ is the true God and no Man will ever be free from gender dysphoria if the person does not put Christ in His Heart and accept Him as the true savior. The Lord Jesus Christ said, Matthew 11:28-30 " Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in Heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

I'm just so lucky that I live in the Philippines where transgender women are given a lot of opportunities to work and explore and be themselves. I guess they should do that as well in their country
These people want us to accept who they are while they themselves don't like themselves. What a load of crap.
