Incel DEMANDS to Live His Creepy Fantasy in D&D (+ More) - RPG Horror Stories

Ойын-сауық

I am forever grateful to Evan and Katelyn for keeping me sane while editing on a 3 times a week schedule. This video in particular had no issues while editing though, so that's nice.
RPG Horror Stories is a series where I read through stories from the subreddit r/rpghorrorstories and give advice on how to avoid the issues that lead to such stories in the first place.

Ehhh, sometimes. Often? But certainly not always. I saw tons of girls lead guys on in high school, church and college. Hell, I led girls on. The motivation is obvious: it's fun to be flirted with and it's nice to have options open if your current crush doesn't work out. That said, TTRPGs do seem to attract an above-average number of emotionally unstable guys.

There is this recent AITA/BestOfUpdates of a incel contacting OP TWO DAYS before her wedding to ditch her fiancé and run away with him, the incel. This incel had a crush on OP and was her and her Fiancé’s friend for TEN YEARS. OP rightfully told him no way. Cue the incel lambasting OP with “I hope you get divorced” and “I hope you and your husband are infertile!” And “You lead me on!” That is your own damn fault to hold a crush for 10 years, even after OP’s been dating and engaged and about to marry. And also, crashing a wedding is a great way to get beat up by the family.

They're so starved for healthy social interaction and so deep into loneliness that they have lost sight of what that even is. In their minds the only way to alleviate their problems is sex and a relationship. Problem is, if they even get it, they'll be so afraid of going back to being lonely and pathetic, that they become toxic and possessive as fuck like their life depends on it.

This is the kind of person in roleplay games as opposed to ttrpg I might play with using one of my handsome charismatic characters, and then proceed to have them thwart any attempts for romance and not do what her character wanted when she asked unreasonable things. It's cringy but kind of fun to see where things go when you won't have your character become interested or feel any sexual tension, maybe even wind up more and more turned off instead, or they just move along totally unaware of how the other is feeling and all the progressively more and more blatant signals they're trying to put out.

Ignoring everything else, the torture story reminds me of a group I used to play with. They had played many a 40K Inquisitor/Dark Heresy game so their go-to method of getting information was to inflict pain. Regardless of setting/system. One time, when I was DMing, I refused to reward this behavior and gave them as many lies as truths. They bought it all and were convinced that a mass conspiracy was in play and they couldn't trust anyone. Sort of broke them of the habit of torturing for info after that. :)

In life, I hope to gain the confidence to stand up to the DM in the First And Last Session story and ask them "what the actual fuck is your problem?" either for myself or on behalf of another player. After the 2 hour mark of that BS any in-game solution is moot. Its time for getting to the point.

  • @Meanlucario
    @Meanlucario2 жыл бұрын

Intro: I guess that the guy's "joke character" wasn't funny enough when a basic intelligence stat was all the other players needed to see past the player's BS. A List of DEMANDS!?: Considering the rest of the demands and her general attitude, I'm guessing that "kicking out sexist/homophobic players" actually means "kicking out players who annoy her and/or called her out." Harsh, but she sounds too entitled for me to think that wasn't a real possibility. There is nothing wrong with talking to your DM about background and starting gear, but keep it reasonable and have it be a two-way conversation and not a monologue disguise as a dialogue. First and Last Session...: The fact that even the other players were sick of the DM's BS and the DM still continued speaks volumes about how bad of a DM he is. I'm guessing that he had it out for OP for some reason, and saw this as a way to "get back at them." Sad that people like him are more interested in ruining their player's fun than giving them (especially the new players) a good time. They are killing TTRPGs because they are scaring away newcomers who will help the games continue and thrive. "nO! You Can't Have Ideas": Yeah, the DM shouldn't promote "open to ideas" when he's demanding new players to fit into his pre-made character and refuses to listen when they don't want to. I wonder if the kicked player was a problem player, someone who wanted more creativity than the DM liked, or even existed in the first place (with the DM thinking that players would be more open playing another player's character who was kicked due to the player than his own created he wanted the player to fit into). The Incel's Fantasy: It sounds like Incel wasn't acting like this before the interrogation, so it's him suddenly shifting the tone unnaturally and suddenly. And as OP pointed out, the DM seem to have been hinting at how persuasion was the way to go with this prisoner. Base on what we're told, my guess was that Incel was upset that his "friend" wasn't into him and wanted to hear that "persistence pays off" when he talked about it to his group, and/or wanted to lash out at NPCs for being rejected.

I was shaking my head by requirement #5 and legit said "holy shit" out loud when IT KEPT GOING. Because holy shit. As to the girl who didn't actually get to group up...wtf is wrong with that DM? I thought maybe when she got to the dark alley that he was about to play out a porn fantasy, and maybe he was, but of course even the group was fed up at that point. There's not much of a problem with throwing out a few small misfortunes out there as obstacles right from the start; it can make things interesting. Even the girl thought "hey, now we get to have a miniquest to get my stuff back" and that would have been a great introduction. But this just went on way too long and was just...vindictive, I guess? Mean in general? But Idk what the DM had to be vindictive about, as everyone seemed cool with everything prior to the game. Have him as a wizard with a special Lvl 1 spell "Summon Anvil" which causes an anvil to appear 10 feet above the target (does get a DEX save) within 30 feet that falls onto target for 2d10 damage (no damage if successful save). This spell is scalable with each higher level adding an anvil that can target the same target or another target with in 5 feet of last target. Yakko: "Factory direct to you! No middleman! Originally going with them because they had the legendary blackrazor but after it was taken by a 17 year old and very rude king he wanted to leave but now they were escaped prisoners who had a shard of the orb of annihilation. Worse part is throughout their journey things feel like he is targetted (artificer shoots him because she saw him look like the hag who hexed them, said artificer's mothers gave him food that blackened his entire mouth and made him lose being able to taste things for 7 days, lost all his gold for the benefit of the party but turned out it was for nothing which pained him because he needed the gold for some important books, the pixie threw water at hin that removed all his makeup which revealed elven like tattoo marks which caused him a lot of childhood trauma and lastly it turns out his fiance is being taken hostage by a queen who is hunting them down) There is a lot more stuff but that is the main reasons he is getting brutal. Which is funny since he is a brawler/throwing weapon build. So trying to multiclass into barbarian is needed if i want to dislocate a enemy's arms or shoot out their kneecaps before firing at their head kinda like erren black

His ENTIRE QUEST is a pilgrimage along the way he will learn this command word inscribed on the blades. And it'll be a big important thing as it's his path to learn about the world and get a better perspective than of just his little village. He has to grow as a character and the fact he cannot activate the swords is motivation for him. Like powerful items can be done right but THIS? 2500 gold? I'd have laughed them outta the chat.

I HAVE startled a DM by responding to a threatening/hard to intimidate NPC by offering some sketchy threats of "advanced interrogation" that got them to question my moral allignment as a player lmao To be fair, I generally play shadey or loose moral characters for the wiggle room to be "a bad guy/gal" if the party ends up too good-allifned (which seems to happen heavily and I believe can halt self-sufficiency to overcome obstacles.) Lois sounds....geez. In my current group i have a noble ranger who is richer than the entire group not only because of his background but because he thought ahead. The monsters they would kill he would scavenge off them and sell them to merchants. The last haul of giant crab kitin got him up to 300 gold while the rest of the party i believe have less than 50 each. This is mostly due to the campaign having long time skips spent on traveling and we had just recently found a city which has us stuck there due to bbeg shenanigans. Hopefully this will be a blessing as we barely made it with our starting gear and our magical items arent that useful or more for roleplay scenarios rather than combat So if you want to be the richest one of the party then use your brain for possible business propositions

I started in a campaign where the DM had us roll for background stuff to build our characters from the book which I guess is like so new DMs have some easy plothooks like "Roll this and you had so many family members. "you had a fight with one and think they are dead." "Someone from your past is out to get you" odd stuff like that to build off of including my character winding up crazy and having a difficult time resisting suddenly trying to kill people when alone with them, so I was excited to play this evil oddball and her finding redemption from being practically a murderhobo. But I had to roll every time to see if I resisted or not. But my character wound up with "A Prince's Ransom." when I rolled for her starting cash, so she was Riiiiiiiich. I made up that she was a pirate for a while and the crew had a whole hiding place for their loot and then died so she had it all. She carried quite a bit of money on her but also some sewn into her coat lining and hidden in her boot heels just so she would always have something if she got robbed. I was really looking forward to her being like "I got this" on multiple occasions paying for things or bribes and everyone wondering how I have so much money. But sadly it didn't get past session 2 due to scheduling conflicts. I really want to play her again some time, just don't have a group anymore..

As a DM, I'm very okay with the idea of characters having the spotlight for a time. Maybe because I've done it twice with the same player, but there were some special reasons they happened. The first time was using his character from a failed campaign (which didn't take off due to scheduling after several sessions) who was going to be integrated to another group I had, so we wanted to wrap up his character arc after defeating the BBEG from his campaign before he officially joined the other group. The second time happened with a different character (different campaign, same setting) and it was a 1-hour, pre-session side quest where his goal was to ultimately help the party with his connections to the black market. It's certainly possible to give each player time in the spotlight, but the DM should only do what they can according to their own limitations. Clearly, Lois had no respect for that. Last story: I won't add to what the rest of the comments say because I am in full agreement, but once I realized OP was padding this story, I mentally checked out as well. Seriously, there's no need to "repeat for emphasis"; we're all reading the same story and can go back and re-read the wtf portions.

Theres a difference in working with players to create cool characters that fit youre created world & shoo-horning youre ideas to make people be what you want (write a book if thats the case). I like to create my worlds & i give my players options for things that exist there (different species & nationalities), they then choose 2 options; play a character from one of these nationalities (& we work together to fit them into the plot) or create a unique character idea that we work together to weave into the existing world. Its not hard to work together & sometimes we bounce ideas until the players is really happy (& i can now create scenarios for that player). Its a two way street tho, as ive had players not want to work woth me when i suggest a tweak or offer an alternative (or outright argue cos i wont let them play an OP background that wont fit them as starting characters...)

Not entirely a horror story but this encounter always makes me laugh and is a great source of irritation for my friend. Characters are myself (genasi necrobotanist), a dark elf rogue, a tiefling bard, a Dwarf monk and the DM. Back story: rogue and I had met each other for almost 4 years previous when he was 12 and I was 25 when we were in the same guild on WoW. During the story he was 16 and I was 29 almost 30. The tiefling was rogue's irl high school friend and we ended up finding a D&D group on discord. Neither the DM nor the monk knew any of us outside of the game and no one was exactly forth coming with any irl details. We were about 6 sessions in when we were tasked with retrieving a magical ring that a sorcerer had dropped down into an ant hill to which he shrunk us and down we went to hunt for this ring. Now rogue had a bad habit of being quite flirtatious and about halfway through a fight against a small army of magical ants he mouthed off something about relaxing with my character after the battle and of course I jokingly replied he needed to shove it and focus on the battle. The DM decides at this point to cut in and with an entirely serious voice and grumble about the two of us needing to "hook up" already and quit causing distractions in the game. Everyone goes dead quiet in chat and bard pipes up about how he's only 16 and that I was quite a bit older. The DM got the most mockingly disgusted sound in his voice and told rogue he needed to quit messing around with women twice his age, then laughed it off and we all thought things were okay after that. Oh no. The DM managed to separate rogue from us in the many spiraling ant tunnels and allowed him to find the ring on his own which ended up causing the rogue to fight his worst fear, which happened to be himself. He didn't survive. We ended up never playing with the DM again after that as he admitted after the session that the only reason rogue died was because he thought he was teaching rogue a lesson about his amorous antics.

Entertaining and oddly soothing. Suddenly my own worst moments as GM doesn’t feel so bad. As for the No U Can’t Have Ideas! story between 12 and 17 min I have two intuitions. First, that other player who had created the character concept and then vanished obviously didn’t exist. No one is gonna be that invested in a concept someone else came up with. Second. This ”highly advanced and experimental piece of tech that gained sentience and ran away from evil creators” … we never did find out what it was, exactly. The source makes it out as if the GM would allow her some kind of input into the design and functionality of this tech, but judging from the rest of the story, that design would have turned out as set in chrome as everything else, right? Right. So what kind of tech are we talking about? I’m pretty sure we can say it together: It. Would. Have. Been. A. SEX-BOT! Just a thought, cheers

Story 3: I get not wanting to come off as the "unreasonable one" or "the villain" in some interaction, but sometimes you just have to be firm in your stance. After the first or second attempt to reason with DM about your player prefs, and DM is *clearly* not listening to you, you don't couch your concerns in soft language. You simply say "No, I will not be playing that on any chance." If you get booted/blocked, you wouldn't have had fun in the campaign anyway.
