I pre-ordered it. I enjoyed all 4 films. Took me forever to get through all the extras!

I was pleasantly surprised with just how good Royal Warriors was.Watching it for the 1st time, a couple scenes took my breath away and warranted multiple rewinds. The California club shoot out is probably on my short list of the greatest action pieces that I've ever seen in Hong Kong cinema. I also really appreciated the back story of the bad guys. We wouldn't exactly call them sympathetic, but it was really refreshing to understand their motivation and I must admit that I found their loyalty admirable.

I haven’t been to a concert in 5 years. Last person I saw I think was Eddie Money. I got to meet him and it was a great show! My favorite concert was probably Scott Stapp!

Oh man, Eddie Money, that's amazing! I haven't been going to too many shows since I've had kids. I think I've seen maybe fewer than 10 shows since 2017 or so. I used to go to tons.

I finished the set last night but have to finish the part IV commentaries. Part IV is my favorite, Yes Madam my second favorite then Royal Warriors and Part III is my least favorite. Regardless, I am glad we finally have these films in the U.S. on blu ray!

Part III has been such an interesting film for me to see everyone's reaction to. As I say in the video, I've seen several people say it's their favorite in the series, but then there are others like you who don't rate it as highly. For me the series really has two tiers of films - I would say In the Line of Duty IV and Royal Warriors are classics of the genre, at least for me personally, and I would rate Yes Madam and In the Line of Duty III as the second tier. Yes Madam I think is mostly better than In the Line of Duty III, but as I say in the video, the Tsui Hark character just really irritates me, and i'm not 100% sure why, but it's hard for me to get past that. Anyway, I'm glad you've watched them all and seem to have enjoyed the films!

Thanks for the awesome review Will! I just ordered my copy. Didn't know which one to choose whether the 88 Films one or the Eureka one. But I think the 88 Films release box looks much better in my opinion.

Thanks for checking out the video! I really don't think you can go wrong with either release. You get the amazing artwork and full collection from 88, and you can mix and match the versions you want if you go with Eureka, plus they have a couple extra bonus features that aren't on the 88 release. It's a great time to be a fan.

Great review once again Will! Thank you. The only thing missing is the bit where you sniff the booklet in extacy 😂 Jokes appart, I got this boxset a couple of weeks ago, but have some other movies to watch in the pile before I get to this one Question: should I watch this or tiger cage first? Both boxset would be first time watch for me....

I had a lot of fun going through this set and making this video, so I'm glad you enjoy it. This vs Tiger cage is a really tough question. I would say these films are probably more historically important, because they created the girls with guns genre, made stars of Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Rothrock, and Cynthia Khan, and for various other reasons, but I would give a slight edge in quality to Tiger Cage, or at least the first two

Great rundown of a fantastic box set of four HK classics with beautiful artwork and a tasty book. I’m still tempted to pick up the Eureka releases though, for the extra commentaries by Mike and Arne and a couple more extra extras like the filming locations featurette. And the booklets by James Oliver. Also, re: concerts, my girl and I saw Love and Rockets on Sunday at the Moore Theater and Duran Duran tonight at the Climate Pledge Arena, here in Seattle, the Emerald City. Never seen either of them before. L&R was very good indeed, but Duran Duran absolutely blew the roof off the stadium. Amazing. Simon Le Bon’s voice still sounds exactly like it did in the ‘80s.

That's awesome you saw Duran Duran! I'm not surprised Simon's voice has held up. I saw Finch last week, doing the 20th anniversary tour for their debut album What It Is To Burn. I got that album the week it came out my freshman year of college and I've never seen them live before, so it was great to finally see them, and playing the whole album all the way through, no less. I've listened to that album consistently for 20 years, so it's got a lot of nostalgia and memories attached to it. The Eureka versions having extra bonus material is definitely a major deal sweetener, although I think the 88 set is great for Region A fans or anyone who wants all the films as one set with the box and matching artwork etc. We're really spoiled right now with all these options!

I've only been able to catch the first 2 movies of this box set, so far. (Loved both, Royal Warriors a bit more) I'm going to come back to this review after I watch the final 2 movies. I feel comfortable in my choice of picking this set up over the Tiger Cage set, especially given some recent comments on the facebook board. 😅

Last show I went to was King Gizzard. Rather disappointing. I saw Sleep several months before that. Second best show I have had the privilege to be a part of. They put the entire audience into a collective trance. Also body punishingly loud. Keep up the great content. Love your channel.

Oh man I've never seen Sleep live, that's awesome. I saw Om 15+ years ago opening for Boris in Boston, that was a great show. I saw Boris three times in that era, they were so damn good. Shame about King Gizzard. Last week I saw Finch on the 20th anniversary tour for What It Is To Burn. One of my favorite records, came out my freshman year of college, so I've got tons of memories and nostalgia attached to it, and it's just so good.

I haven't heard anything to that effect, so I honestly don't really know what they're thinking. If this one sells like absolute gangbusters and there's a lot of chatter about it online, I'm sure they'd consider it. If they're putting out stuff like Long Arm of the Law now they're obviously willing to take risks. LAotL is a personal favorite film of mine but not nearly as bit a name as something like the ITLOD series

  • @hkcinemasociety

I have my hopes up now that the labels are starting to get into the less obvious stuff. With movies like Long Arm of the Law coming out, which I think is considered a classic by the fans but not as well known to more casual viewers, I'm optimistic we'll start getting into more girls of guns films, lesser-known heroic bloodshed titles, and other stuff like that.
