Hong Kong Cinema Appreciation Society

We love Hong Kong cinema, and hope you do to. | HK Cinema Appreciation Society started as an Instagram account, then grew into a KZread channel. As of summer 2020, we are working with a university to become a legitimate film preservation, promotion, and studios organization (we'll give you news on this when/if it happens). Our long term plans include a physical space for a museum, library, shop, and movie theater, HK film preservation and restoration efforts, maybe a quarterly publication of some kind, and more.

I first saw Righting Wrongs when I was pretty new to the genre and really loved it. There's a lot of great action but also some really interesting story and character stuff. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for checking it out. If you liked this, you might enjoy some of Corey Yuen's other films, like She Shoots Straight (which I love), My Father Is a Hero with Jet Li, or maybe Yes Madam. They all have a similar approach of mixing action, fighting, drama, and some comedy.

Hello society i recently tried to analyze the movie the mission from johnnie to with background knowledge, cultural and interview wise and comparing it to his cinematic universe. I just cant get over the fact that there is a big plot hole why curtis kept up the show about intendig to kill shin. I mean he intentionally gave them a hint so that fatty playboy guy and roy can get shin off city but instead mike brought shin back. He also tried to play james against them. All for nothing bc franks henchman was waiting outside not inside. Just shoot in the air and thats it. Why put up this big show. He must have known that roy has smoll eggs and wont shoot him so his reputation as the ice stays intact. But why show james that he used fake ammo? And how in first place did it came out that mr lungs wife had an affair with shin. And if he is the ice why not just shoot shin straight away why let him live. Makes him kinda softy. And why did frank make a thing out of it. Did frank only bluff but hit unintentionally the spot with his guess that they had an affair. Maybe he was just still vengefully upset bc shins match in the cigarette prank. My guess is that i got a low quality sub version. I cant imagine such unexplainable plot holes in a peak johnnie to movie

Eventually, yes. The order in which I'm reviewing things right now is completely determined by our Patrons - I have so many releases at the moment it's impossible for me to prioritize them in a meaningful way, so I'm letting Patrons pick what's next. Times Square Kung Fu / Frankie did a pretty extensive video on the 4k release of Fist of Legend, which you can see here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooJo0dB_e7jfgc4.html I don't think I own the Dragon Dynasty Blu-ray of that film, I just have an old DVD release, so I won't be able to compare footage, but I will put clips from the 88 release in the video when I do it.

Trivia: Both Angela Wao and Sammo Hung were in Enter the Dragon (Angela is Lee's sister and Sammo is the Shaolin fighter in the opening scene). Wang In Sik is the Japanese fighter in Way/Return of the Dragon and was supposed to be in The Game of Death before Lee's untimely death. Jhoon Rhee was called ''the father of American Taekwon-Do'' and was a long time friend of Lee, even taught Lee all the high kicks he would use in his movies. One story Rhee told was that when he met Lee, Lee only knew Wing Chun low kicks and front kick and side kick, karate style. Lee asked him to show him the Taekwon-Do kicks and, 6 months later, he was doing them all as good as Rhee! This movie is the only one Jhoon Rhee ever made and allegedly only at the insistence of Lee who wanted to give to his friend his chance at stardom (according to Lee's wife Linda in her book). This movie is an underrated forgotten gem of those glory days of Hong Kong's golden age.
