Trivia: Both Angela Wao and Sammo Hung were in Enter the Dragon (Angela is Lee's sister and Sammo is the Shaolin fighter in the opening scene). Wang In Sik is the Japanese fighter in Way/Return of the Dragon and was supposed to be in The Game of Death before Lee's untimely death. Jhoon Rhee was called ''the father of American Taekwon-Do'' and was a long time friend of Lee, even taught Lee all the high kicks he would use in his movies. One story Rhee told was that when he met Lee, Lee only knew Wing Chun low kicks and front kick and side kick, karate style. Lee asked him to show him the Taekwon-Do kicks and, 6 months later, he was doing them all as good as Rhee! This movie is the only one Jhoon Rhee ever made and allegedly only at the insistence of Lee who wanted to give to his friend his chance at stardom (according to Lee's wife Linda in her book). This movie is an underrated forgotten gem of those glory days of Hong Kong's golden age.

I've seen a lot of comments about Broken Oath and Stoner, I haven't seen either and would love to check them out. Queen's Ranson looks great, too. I'd be very happy if Eureka picked those up as well. I agree on Angela Mao, she's a great actor and a great martial arts performer, she nails both aspects of the job perfectly. I'm also a big fan of Cheng Pei Pei, she's great.

One of my all time favourite Golden Harvest films ,my copy arrived today and the print is just amazing ! I love the Eureka old school films ,so much care and attention with these releases, the book is fantastic .I am excited to watch it again with the commentary track, I think it's the same Samm who did the 88 Films version of Come drink with me and there is THAT documentary. Outstanding stuff.

Oh I totally forgot Samm Deighan was on that Come Drink with Me release. The commentary of hers that stands out most to me is on Chinese Boxer, I believe. Really interesting analysis of that film, which I really enjoyed. Agreed on the work Eureka does on these releases. The old school martial arts movies especially I think are such revelations after years of crappy releases - stuff like this, Skyhawk, Shaolin Plot, etc. Landy Whirlwind and Hapkido looked incredible as well. I'd love more Huang Feng from Eureka, I've become such a fan over the past few years.

@@hkcinemasocietyI don't think I actually got around to listening to her on Chinese boxer for some bizarre reason, so I will do that. I am not as knowledgeable on Golden Harvest as I am on Shaw brothers, which is weird because in the UK getting Shaw stuff wasn't as easy. Skyhawk is amazing, I am hopeful we will see Broken oath which is one of my favourite Angela Mao films but there are so many superb old Golden Harvest films that I would like to see on Blu-ray. I am keen to hear what you thought of the Shout box Will as well.

@@mitchsfridaynightsongclub2594 Broken Oath is another one I haven't seen. I've seen very few Angela Mao films, so the more that come out, the happier I'll be. Regarding the Shaw Shout set, I'm probably going to watch Holy Flame of the Martial World tomorrow, so I should have a review of that up in a few weeks. I'll put it in Patreon first since I bought that set w/ Patreon money, then put it up on KZread maybe a week or two after that. Then maybe I'll do Five Element Ninjas and House of Traps. I'm really excited to dig into that set.

@@hkcinemasociety Will, Holy flame IS the pinnacle of Shaw bat sheet insanity! It's almost worth doing a reaction video. I know some say by the 80's they knew their time was up, but that period is full of such innovation and creativity, with different genres being thrown together - it's my favourite period in their history. 5 element ninjas is probably Chang Cheh's masterpiece, despite it being filmed on interior sets the action is at times mind blowingly good. House of traps is, well OK, it has some continuity issues, but that's because of the damaged footage that Celestial cut (20 minutes or so) and sadly it's not even referenced by David West - I would have loved for it to be included, I have tried to find it online but sadly can't.

The first three movies I watched this year were all Hong Kong films. I watched Eureka's release of Beach of the War Gods, then I watched The Cat on the criterion channel. I enjoyed both movies quite a bit but then I watched My Young Auntie and it is easily my favorite movie I've watched so far this month. Are you going to review My Young Auntie at some point? Beach of the War Gods is legendary! Love that movie. I haven't seen The Cat. Did you enjoy that one? It sounds pretty interesting. I hope you enjoy When Taekwondo Strikes. As you can tell from the rview, I loved it! My Young Auntie is in the Shawscope Vol 2 set, right? I just reordered the first one. I had both sets but sent them to a friend who had to sell his, so I'm in the process of reacquiring them. If I do get my hands on that set again, I'll definitely review that one.

The Cat is pretty fun. It’s got great practical effects. I hope it gets an 88 Films release. The director also made The Seventh Curse and The Story of Riki-Oh so there could be a chance. My Young Auntie is in Shawscope Vol 2. One thing I loved about it is it reminded of me of classic Hollywood movies. Seems like it could have been influenced by Vincente Minnelli or Stanley Donen movies. Looking forward to your review whenever it happens!

When Taekwondo strikes does have a blunder on the cover sleeve. It states besides the " classic" english dub there is an optional english dub with different music cues. This is not correct. This dub is not featured on the disc or evenmentioned in the main menu. The documentary ' 'The best of the martial arts films' has many scenes which are very grainy or has picture noise. To their credit, Eureka have tried to insert some restored sequences from other HD sourced material - but its not 100%.

Although I don't think it's on the same level as Broken Oath, it's still one of Angela Mao's better movies. Tend to get scenes from Hapkido and this mixed up in my mind - lots of early 70s dojo demolition complete/Whang In Sik badassery - but either way it's another very welcome release.
