Fun fact: the reason the IL2 has a painted on targeting system, is pilot safety. The early models did have optics , in-fact some very advanced ones, yet numerous pilots were killed in other wise survivable crash landings because of them, striking their heads against the protruding metal sights. The IL2 being a flying tank needed to be tough, and it needed to be designed to withstand abuse and crashes without killing the pilots, so the optics were removed. *This is from "Red Star vs the Swastika" a autobiography from Vasily B. Emelianenko a IL-2 Sturmovik hero of the Soviet Union, he himself crashed 3 times and survived.* A huge number of other pilots too crashed and survived, often to show up sometimes days or weeks later, after walking back to friendly lines. It really is a testament to the sturdiness of the IL-2, you couldn't bail out in a IL-2 since 90% of the time they were flying at tree top level.

@@hansloyalitat9774No, just no. It is specifically stated in the source that it was for pilot safety. It says so right in the first chapter. The soviets aren’t idiots. They had normal sights on most of the rest of their aircraft. They specifically chose this one for the 1943 il2. You’re parroting Nazi propaganda

This is great, Req! Thanks for the upload! However, i find that if you can get close/accurate enough you can use the ROS-132s in AT role. just get in close (~400m) and one rocket will do the job.

wonderful stuff as always, Your vids are the first place I stop when learning a new skill. I have a request, for this same tutorial covering the soviet PBP-1 sight for rockets and bombing. I've watched the deflection vid covering it and understand the principals, but as a new pilot I'm struggling with finding the right sight picture for my preferred 800m shot with rockets. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I work my way through the BOM career flying the M41.

It's been a long time since I've looked at Russian tactics..the only one I remember seeing off the top of my head was Russian tactics but in Spanish. Can't recall where I saw that though. Regarding this video I was a beta tester at the time and the devs provided a dev diary explaining it as well so I just took it that step further

I found and downloaded your Track IR profile. Seems good overall but when I centre the view the window shield (rear) sight is by default to right side of front sight. I have to lean right to align them. Is this correct? Also when looking behind with your profile i have to lean in opposite direction on x axis i.e. to right if i want to lean left. Anyway of changing this?

@@IRLBemused I see you have my profile so that will help as I built in a deadzone to prevent tiny movements in the seat triggering ingame movement. Getting your cockpit view centered though is set in game using F10. So you can either hold a position with TIR and press F10, then recenter TIR. Or pause TIR and adjust the cockpit view with PgUp, PgDn, Ins, Del, Home, End keys then press F10 and unpause TIR

If you want to attack tanks you should pick the rbs 82 right? Cause it should be easier to aim and destroy a pz IV in one hit while the rofs132 might have problem dealing that much damage(irl at least) is the the case in The game too?

  • @RequiemsACTL

The splash damage has changed for rockets and bombs a little bit, but if either way you pretty much need direct hits with rockets to kill tanks. Hitting near them doesn't always cut it.

If you buy on Steam, then you must acquire Battle of Stalingrad first. If you buy direct from the developer ( il2sturmovik.com ) then you can buy any of the IL-2 'modules' in the order you wish. There is a sale on in both places, until 20 March on Steam, and until 31 March at the website. IL-2 Stalingrad is a good place to start...
