If the US shared a border with Russia, who'd win that war? (2016)

Ойын-сауық

What would happen if today's US and Russia found themselves on an artificial island, each on a land mass similar to their real country, but adjacent to each other! And total war broke out? Whose military would prevail?
Since the conflict is quite artificial, here are some rules: No morale, no nukes, no other countries' involvement, no preparation of economy/military for new land mass with different geographical features.

    I'm American so i am biased toward my country but who am i kidding everyone in these comments are biased toward either their country or the country they favor the most. But for everyone in the comments arguing about what would happen in real life #1 this is a scenario where the US shares a border with Russia #2 in the rules of Binkov's Battlegrounds Morale, Nukes, and Alliances are not taken into account #3 He is going off equipment quality, army numbers, and likely tactics. In the real world wars could go either way because they are won on willingness to fight and ability to outfit and supply units and leadership is also a large factor so don't get caught up in your dumb bias and enjoy this video its not dictating what would actually happen

    +Weißer Wolf - There are a lot of wars the US could lose while on the offensive, but I do agree that almost any defensive war could be won by the US, though the same could be said for most countries with a large military.

  • @DeltaVK

    @DeltaVK

    7 жыл бұрын

    ***** I want to preface this by saying that these are wars the US would lose if it were the invader; India, boasting it's large manpower pool and relatively large air force, would definitely be able to defend from a US invasion. A large standing army of 1.3m (or something like that) could secure the whole coastline, and the large air force could secure the skies. France, given it's modern equipment and having the most recent, large scale, experience on the defense, would just entrench and stalemate the US for several years. They held the line in World War 1, they held the line in World War 2 (until, you know, the Germans walked around their line), and they would probably be able to hold the line against a US naval invasion. Germany too could probably hold off a US naval invasion given how spirited the Germans are in a war to fight until the end, as well as their early adoption of elastic and adaptive offensive and defense. Germany has a modern military and undoubtedly a modern mindset when it comes to strategy and tactics, though admitted they currently lack much armour and basically don't have a navy (no aircraft carriers). I was going to say the UK next, but I'm English and as a result I'm biased, but India, France and Germany all could definitely fend off a US naval invasion, by virtue of friendly soil, knowledge of the terrain, early warning systems already set in place, fast mobilisation, etc. Now, is the US powerful? Of course the US is powerful, and is definitely the most powerful nation on Earth currently. That being said, it doesn't mean that every single war that it fights in automatically means it will be a US victory. Many other militaries can outperform the US in many aspects (such a friendly fire and general discipline). Now, if these countries weren't on the other side of the world and perhaps bordered the US, yes. These would be landslide victories.

    Well, yes drones were in use long before the making of this video, but they would in all probability, only account for maybe like 20% of the pounding that Russia would be getting from the air. The U.S. has 10x the planes along with 10x the capacity and capital to manufacturer more. Russia has significantly more tanks than the U.S., but once the United States eliminates the Russian Airforce assets, ane dominates the air Russian Tanks would be systematically decimated. In addition, Russia has half the population which means they have half the labor force to contribute to the overall economy and Manufacturing

    Russian's hear that winter is coming and think they're about to be saved. American's hear that winter is coming and think theyll watch Game of Thrones in their All-Terrain heated APC while they continue the offensive. Shrugging off actual winter because of satallite weather means we actually get predictable weather these days so we won't get destroyed like armies of the past.

    The bigger question becomes supply lines. The longer the war drags on, the further the trek from the factory and farm to the frontline, and Russia historically has relied upon its sheer size as its main defense. As temperatures drop and weather turns, the Russians probably would have destroyed much of what could've assisted the US (ranging from farms to bridges) forcing them to burn time and resources keeping their momentum going. Furthermore, "General Winter" has killed as many Russians as he has invaders, so nature really isn't on anyone's side beyond who is willing to lose more. Furthermore, if you're sitting in a heated vehicle or FOB waiting for winter to blow over, you aren't attacking, which means all the food and fuel you're expending waiting is essentially wasted unless Russia tries to mount a counter-offensive (which given how Russia would be suffering just as much as the US, is unlikely). Simply put, it would come down to if the US could actually keep its troops at the frontlines stocked up with food, fuel and ammunition, and if they couldn't, if Russia could muster the manpower and material to push them back.

  • @latinman1736

    RedShocktrooper the US cojld simply use its larger industry to produce huge amounts of transport trucks and aircraft. Then they could man those with conscripts, so you would have less unwilling people on the front line. People should accept that winter is no threat to a modern army that has prepared its troops well. Remember americans no what extreme weather is like too, think about alaska which is actually further north then most of russias major cities like volgograd, rostov na donu, samara, mosow, irkutsk, etcetera. Also the US has mobile bridges, large helicopter transport fleets, and amphibeous armoured personnel carriers. And unlike most of history russia would be out numbered by the larger population of america.

    In the modern world, Russia knows it can not survive a US assault, even alongside China, the US simply has too much technology, manpower, and such a hard pumping war machine with hundreds of military bases surrounding Russia and hundreds of allies, the US is the current world superpower, like the British Empire before it most countries will do a lot to try and keep or gain the favor of the United States. Russia uses nuclear weapons as a shield, an insurance, it can not stand a war with the US so it will engage in nuclear standoff because as horrible as it is Russia would have a better chance of surviving it.

    Nicholas Knightley Hillary was pushing very swiftly towards nuclear standoff, which is probably one of the two reasons I supported Trump vastly over her (the other being open borders which could ensure we never get anyone but Liberal ever again as immigrants from 3rd world tend to vote very very left and many are even anti-democracy in the middle east). Hillary was going to attack Russia's ally, this would force a standoff between Russia and the US and allies which include nearly all of Europe. The US public wasn't pushing Europe in that direction, they want peace just as much as the UK and France and Spain and all of the others, Hillary was but now that she's out of the picture Trump promises cooperation with Russia to defuse tensions, joint strikes against ISIS and joining armies to defeat a common foe, a much better solution with the potential to begin friendly relations between countries.

    psst... hey buddy, you have it backwards, because the USA is there, you haven't had to worry about attack from Russia, and do you remember that little thing called the Berlin wall that kept Germans prisoner of the Soviet union ? Europe has enjoyed peace and prosperity from the USA and the NATO agreements, you have not had to fight each other like you've been known thru history to do, and you haven't had to face the Soviet union and you now have a more reasonable Russia instead of a menacing bear, you can thank the US military and the US tax payers anytime, that is once you stop blaming us for everything and running your mouths putting the USA and Americans down because it's the shiek thing to do in Europe these days.

    @nicholasknightley1201

    Arthur Duda I hope this is just a bad joke because if it's not, your knowledge of history and politics is absolutely lacking! Berlin wall was built under a mutual agreement between US/UK/FR and the Soviets. Berlin was to be split under several control zones, after what Germans did (WWI and WWII) they were quite lucky to have such a solution instead of losing their country and having it divided between all neighbours surrounding it. Hitler bombed London for weeks killing civilians knowing it had no military targets. Thank the US military for what? Starting pointless wars all over the globe and dragging Europe into them? Russia/ Soviet Union was going to do what? Attack Europe? Mate drop your cold war propaganda, it's poor and outdated. Russia will never attack anyone because it has all it needs, you attack others if you need natural resources and territory and that's what Ruskis will never lack. So far as I can remember, it was Europe that kept attacking Russia throughout entire history.Why? Resources! Same is happening with Arabs now. We need their oil, preferably free or water-cheap. Waging wars is just too profitable for the US government and lobbyists to stop it, mainly because it's heavily oriented towards weapon industry and arms trade. If there were no more wars and evil Russians we have to defend from by spending billions on NATO and obsolete weaponry, American weapon industry would suffer immense loses.

    An invasion through Siberia wouldn't be very fruitful and it would be unnecessarily long. Though the Coast maybe occupied it would be extremely doubtful to see a attack much further than the Russian Coast. In a realistic scenario the lacking part on the Russian navy would be catastrophic in the Baltic Sea and lead to a mass amphibious invasion that would quickly take St. Petersburg. Though many U.S. troops pushing from within the N.A.T.O. territory would be the primary front.

  • @DisturbedAidan2

    @DisturbedAidan2

    ***** The problem with no "neutral" lands is that it forces the U.S. the nation that would start on the offense to invade through small choke points that would never be used in a conventional main invasion. It's this exact reason why they would have to invade through neutral territory. Invasion through Siberia isn't viable at all. Attacking in the Arctic could only work as a secondary invasion the main invasion would have to come through the Baltic and since or Black Sea. The distance away from the U.S. would logistically make an ground invasion nonviable without the inclusion of neutral territory or at least as have supply lines. Fronts would be to small allowing the Russians to guard the coast without fear of being attacked overland. Without this threat no real invasion would likely occur.

  • @RKNGL

    @RKNGL

    Akuratist Ov It wasn't possible for the third Reich to amphibiously invade Leningrad, nor was it possible for a mass continuous naval barrage. Furthermore the Soviet navy bombarding the German attackers near Leningrad was pivotal in the city's defense. Modern weaponry even further leans this to the side of a naval victory. A navy with such overwhelming strength like the U.S.'s shouldn't be discounted as it would be horrify to face. Though the amount of time from war declared an the invasion would judge how defensible the cities fortifications would be.

    ***** It wouldn't if you included Geography! Imagine a USA offenssive; they would have complete naval superiority, cutting off Ireland first before Europe could react. Then as Europe musters it's forces, the USA besieges Britain and attacks the harbors. They use Marines to capture the strait of Gibraltar, but the Spanish paramilitary slow them down enough to get the army in position. Then as they Try and attack portugal and spain, France supplies the UK through the Tunnel, the USA starts to attack scotland, but they are bottlenecked by the British forces. The SAS becomes increasingly important as the British have some superiority, but are rapidly moving to intercept. The Iberian peninsula is then captured at great cost, But France and Itally uses their navies to bottleneck Gibraltar. France bottlenecks the USA in the Pyrenees. as they use their ressources; the USA attacks the north of Europe, and cuts off Sweden and Norwway from Europe, but they get stuck on the steep inclines of the Fjords. But the Commandos manage to penatrate the cities. Reinforcements then come from Central and Eastern Europe with Germany leading the Charge. with the extra reinforcements they manage to counter many of the advances. though the UK is captured. Amphibian landings in France are countered by the mass of troops reinforcing from the East and a stalemate is reached. Result: Partial US Victory. or another option is to have Europe attack the USA. with landing zones in Florida, and New Jersey. and have a fight there. Could be really fun!

    ***** Yes... to some extent, but Remember that the USA has far more defense funding then all of Europe combined. So that's where things get interesting. Can All of Europe (the largest economy of the world) manage to hold back the most powerful military power in the World. Also interesting would be USA vs China; The military peak of the world vs the production center of the world. Honestly I think it would as if not more interesting than US vs Russia. Because USA vs Europe is something that is difficult for people to guess; especially if you ignore all the internal politics of Europe, it is difficult for someone who doesn't know much about military capacity to estimate how powerful Europe is.

    @Matthew Winfield, and that's exactly what ruins the video for me. The concept of theoretical war scenarios is to determine which side would theoretically win in the reality. But because you can not change the geographical aspect, so you are basically taking this scenario to a parallel universe. In other words, this entire video is completely useless because it doesn't show which side wins in our real world.

    Did you know the F22 is superior to the F35? It's just so exspensive the military couldn't field as many as it wanted, the F35 is a cheaper knock off to for smaller roles, the F22 is for air superiority, control of the skies & if the older russian aircraft can go toe to toe with the F22? The F35 doesn't stand a chance buddy!

  • @johnalexander651

    The F35 is inferior to the Russian Su30 & Su35 which are both air superiority aircraft as well as multirole aircraft. The difference is the Su35 is a 2 man aircraft for longer missions so one pilot can rest while the other takes over. The F35 is mainly a multi role aircraft but it's air combat is severly lacking against these 2 Russian aircraft, even with long range ordnance the F35 won't be able to take on the Su30 & 35 for they have greater maneuverability then the F35 & can dodge it's longer range missles easily, meaning the Su30 & 35 can close in & knock them out of the sky period, the F22 could have served as a multi role fighter but was too exspensive because of it's unnecessary stealth coating

Also the F35 lost a mock dogfight against F16, many pilots are disappointed with the 35, the F22 is in talks for reproduction cause it fared better as a multi role aircraft then the 35 it's just more exspensive , F35 is shit & I have air force buddies saying that

The F35 has been a waist of tax payers money & the air force is ready to scrap the project but is being over riden by the Pentagon!

    You're missing the reason why Russia is performing poorly in the first place. When it comes to Russians being directly invaded by foreign forces, Russians would sure as hell get more public support for the war (which Russia doesn't have in Ukrainian conflict) and morale of Russian armed forces would be more higher and determined. Russians would be surely more harder to deal with when it comes to invasion of Russia itself, even with US victory Americans would have to pay heavy price for that, we can't just copy and paste Russian performance in the Ukrainian conflict with the case with this video.

    Wrong again. The Harm targeting pod is a passive sensor and cannot be jammed. Nigh impossible to get close? Have you ever heard of terrain masking? NOE flight? Stealth? We also have our own airborne jammers like the EA-6B. We don't have to jam all your defenses, just the ones near enough to threaten a strike package which will contain planes carrying at least two Harms each. They will get close enough and they will launch on your SAMs. It's called rolling back defenses. We will also do the same with waves of cruise missiles. You cannot shoot them all down.

  • @dixievfd55

    @dixievfd55

    We have aerial jammers and ECM pods to get close enough to those SAM sites to deliver Harms on target. As far as I know radar still does not penetrate hills and AWACS aircraft cannot stay on station forever. As for stealth, I do agree it is expensive to pursue but the Pentagon wants to anyway with that POS F-35. An F-16 beat it in a dogfight so I am very sure Russian fighters can handle it quite well.

  • @dixievfd55

    @dixievfd55

    7 жыл бұрын

    Jammers don't have to have long range. They don't have to jam the radar site just the missile. Yeah some of them would get shot down, but you can't shoot them all down. It is the nature of war that some of the strikers would get through to hit their targets. An F-16, one of the fighters the F-35 is replacing, beat it. A Flanker can beat it. I have a lot of respect for Russian fighters.

    The whole "sacrificing land for time" tactic was one of the ways russia survived against the Nazi forces in WW2, in technology and force differences the Nazi forces advantages over russia back then are not dissimilar to the USA advantages over the russians today. Its not impossible to imagine that the USA would be forced to retreat simply due to Russia being far too much territory for the USA to effectivly seize and control (even while factoring out Anti-occupation rebellions and uprisings) However this only means that russia would be cabable of defending her homeland, its extremely doubtful that russia could prosecute a land invasion and occupation of the USA simply due to the higher likelihood of uprisings (due to how patriotic and loyal americans tend to be) coupled with the fact that areas like the Great plains and southern USA are just far too huge for russia to effectively control and supress. Without allied assistance its unlikely that either country could effectivly occupy the other, meaning (without nuclear exchanges) the war would most likely stagnate with massive losses on both sides by the end.

  • @staswiat

  • @gamecubekingdevon3

    @gamecubekingdevon3

    7 жыл бұрын

    Russel Crowe japan handled them because: china forces only had a little number of weapon given by ussr (and sometimes by the 3rd reich....yes that s very strange but there where chineese warriors with german WWII gears!) and japan forces where trained for fight in swamp (that s the first reason why imperial tanks had so ridiculous ground pressure comparated to occidental tanks) but now, china is in industrial era, and got an big production capacity (that s why actually most of the thing u can buy come from china, in the 40's most of the thing where made in USA or made in europe) and USA got some economic debt that they must refund to china, so, american economy could be severaly affected at the beginning of a war. about the chineese army actually, they began to produce some modern equipement since 80's/90's and to sell the old soviet era shits to poor contry to make money, as an exemple: they now got some fight drones like american and european have, and their last tank (the ZTZ99, called too type 99 or WZ123) is cappable of defeat an occidental tank. (during the 70's, after mao death, china had some projects and exchanges with UE and USA, and tested some mix beetweens soviet, germany, and american design on prototypes like the "WZ122" and "WZ1224") about the infantry gear, they made copy of the american and european most popular gear, (they copy the M88/PASGT kevlar helmet) that s another reason why chineese army could be dangerous, they don't got only the number, but, during decades, they learned and acquired, and made copy of some advanced technologies, so now, they got good weapons (not the best of the best, but as good as american weapons) so, i think an chineese victory could be possible.

    Couple of inconsistencies. First Russia's reserve personnel stands at 2 million, not 10-80 thousand and there are huge stockpiles of AK-47 (enough to arm most of them). Second, I understand that this is a comparison of military tech and capability, however I find morale and human factor to be a huge part of the equation. If Russia is in a defensive position, and in the given scenario it is, as any previous invader in such a position US must expect heavy partisan action on its rear in its push to Moscow. Moreover, historically, technologically superior armies have consistently failed in conquering Russia. Germans in 1941 had a much bigger technological advantage over the USSR then modern US holds over Russia. Also we must also take into consideration the public opinion and the economy. Prolonged conflict in Russia, will cause american public to resent the war (kinda like Vietnam but with 10 times more casualties). Realistically this war would result with US withdrawal and a piece agreement.

    I'm going to assume any world where the United States is invading Russia is likely under some sort of dictatorship or retaliating against a nuclear attack or something if that was the case the American Public would be out for blood and wouldn't rest until Russia was only a name in a history book

    Well even a dictatorship cares about the public opinion because ignoring it can result in an uprising. Also Russia's population is more used to economical deprivations as seen in the recent Crimea Crisis. US population would not endure the war burden as much (I mean look at Iraq and Vietnam). Even if we don't consider public opinion and such, it will all come down to the focus of the military. True the US would win the war at sea, after all that's the main focus of the US military. However, no one can win a land war with Russia, and I bet lots of strategists from West Point would concur with me on this. Russia's military is built to fight on land and has the twice the number of tanks and stronger air defenses, I don't see how US forces can break through, considering they won't be able to use their air superiority.

    I believe in a conventional war the United States would annihilate Russia fairly quickly if nuclear weapons were out of the question because most of its tanks are obsolete T72 tanks and most of its soldiers are poorly trained conscripts the United States could easily fuck russia up economically anyways it basically has already been doing that
