Short answer, it helps alot. Heres how it works, the closer the explosion the more damage it does. If you have sheet metal 3 ft away from what you are trying to protect, you have moved the explosion 3ft away from the armor. The armor can handle the reduced damage. They will eventually get trhough, but damage that used to require 1- 2 drones to seriously damage now take 5-10.
Only against drones with light HE or HEAT shells, an APFSDS or HEATFS will be unfazed by that thin flimsy sheet steel.

Two Swedish generals im friend with were convinced the first week or two would be big success for the Red team, but once USA is fully in gear and major units starts arriving to Europe, that would have changed. NATO would have won in the end, by a large margin as well, but those first few weeks could have become a bloodbath. NATO knew about this as well but didn't want to change their policy...

Hypothetically, if the Spanish invaded Portugal, in a few days our army demobilized and hide various weapons along the territory, starting insurgent force, (must understand we have a very strong sense of identity, more than 800 years and Portuguese are very resourceful people). We probably try to incite the various separatist groups in Spain like in Catalunha and Basque country, also we try to make Marrocos claim Ceuta, creating to many fronts. But nothing of this will happen, we (Portuguese) and Spanish are like brothers, we have our divergences in the past, but we learn how to be good neighbors. 😅💪

Surely it can only be strategic failures and poorly trained sailors?! I see support is growing for NATO weapons to be able to be used to strike inside Russia. At the moment the Russian army is hiding behind the border and the Ukrainians can only hit them with low tech drones - bring out the Storm Shadows, Zelensky. Also I’ve heard up to 3 long range radars have been hit inside Russia in recent months, these are a part of Russia’s early warning system used to detect incoming nuclear missiles. This is potentially leaving huge gaps in their nuclear defence capabilities. I genuinely can’t understand how Russia is struggling so much?

I really appreciate this video. It is surprising how hard it’s been to find a video giving an idea how a mission like that would really be executed if making an entertaining movie wasn’t the priority. I’m all for film makers upping the stakes and making the third act tense and thrilling. But i did have a register moment after watching the movie where i was all like “wait a minute. The American military has stealth aircraft and advanced cruise missiles. Why are they undertaking that mission in the hardest way possible when they could use what they have and make it a million times easier on themselves.” That whole GPS jamming hand waiving thing didn’t fully convince me after watching and I’m glad that people who understand these things better than me are able to confirm what i has suspected.

What I've been wondering is how long will it be before either side starts to use noiseless drones. Dampening the sound of the motors is hard but not undoable, you pretty much need to reduce the resonance coming out of the motors to a minimum and that can be a bit complicated, requires a redesign of the motors, not just the drone frame, the rotors though can be made noiseless relatively easy. For example you likely have noiseless fans in your PC, some military helicopters are also made with silent blades, it's just aerodynamics and material engineering. I think as long as both sides are pretty strained to keep up with the war they won't make purpose-built designs, just conversions at most. A silent rotor conversion kit for the most commonly used drones should be made though at the very least, the less noisy you can make your drones the better, no? Some company that makes plastic or 3d printed things might want to take a look at this. Many people already sends Ukraine drones as donations, why not give them something like this? Someone with the required engineering knowledge could also make some 3d designs which they can share on the internet to people who have 3d printers, then they can simply mail the blades to Ukraine. That could work too in small numbers. Even if the numbers are low at least their recon drones should be made as silent as possible so their enemy won't hear them loiter in the air and subsequently won't shoot them down. That's just my thought...
What would be the need to do that?, the observation drones are around 10-30km's away from the actual fighting so their noise is non existent. And the fpv drones are designed to be one time use so having quantity over quality is important.
There's no point in noiseless drones. If there's a tank or armored vehicle within 500m, its engine drowns out the drone noise. And if there isn't, drones tend to fly too high to be heard anyway.
