Could Russian army hold on against an united Europe?

Ойын-сауық

It is 2017 or the very near future. If the complete European Union went head to head against Russia, who would come out on top? This is the second and final part of the two-part series which analyzes the two sides' militaries and available strategies. Belarus is also a key player.

Russia and Belarus share the same migration card visitors have to fill out when visiting either country, flights from one country to the other are considered domestic rather than International. JimW27 I still disagree. Yes, Norway is a very close ally of the EU, but it still has its own language, a military entirely uncontrolled by any other country, its own currency and more. Belarus has its own currency, but Russia bails it out of financial problems often, and Russian rubles are accepted everywhere. The military is at the call of Russia, and there's a shared language. Let's put it this way: Norway is very much its own country. It has alliances and shared values, but a Norwegian is a Norwegian. Belarus is essentially a satellite of Russia, mostly willing to be, and is practically a part of Russia. Lukashenko is more like a governor controlled by Putin than a real president. Belarus is Belarussian and independent in name only. It's soundly Russian. Because of that, it's not really a Russian ally. It is Russia's.

They've been firing between 7000 to 40,000 (by estimates) artillery shells a day for 8 months straight with little sign of slowing down. I'd say Russia's logistical problems get far too much blame in this war. Their biggest blunder was vastly underestimating Ukraine's ability and will to resist and sending an unprepared force to do the job. Say what you want about Russian incompetence but this war has made people go from overestimating Russia to underestimating them. Even if the most outlandish casualty figures of 80,000 or so are true that's still a fraction of total Russian manpower and material strength. Fact of the matter is people will say Russian equipment is bad (when Ukraine uses largely the same stuff) or corruption, or training problems, or just plain incompetence. It may be a mix of all of those things, but at the end of the day the biggest problem was they genuinely expected a 3 day operation where there would be no large scale organized resistance and sent in an already outnumbered force and scattered what forces they did have along the Donbass, Kherson, Kharkov and Kiev fronts. Nevermind the fact they advanced along very narrow corridors and in the early days of the war had their logistics vehicles mauled by enemies they didn't eliminate in their straightforward rush to Kiev. And when that plan failed they had no backup plan ready.

Also the Luftwaffe has lost significant strength after the battle of britain that was essential for the german combined weapons tactics. It was always a product of tyrants putting the whip to men though, Germany has only seen limited time of democracy so far. In modern times we would simply fight to defend our homes and protect our family's, no wars of agression. It's unlikely that you will fight war in the form of being infantry on the field, with Europe's production capacity we could could easily outproduce Russia in remotely opperated war equipment. Ah the Longer the Russians wait with this sort of folly, the more we would be preppared to defeat them from behind our computers.

China wouldn't join Russia. Their relationship is quite bad (or at least by far not as good as people like to think) and on top of that, China's economy is deeply intertwined with those of the EU and US, and not so much with Russia's. I wouldn't go as far as saying China would join the fight against Russia, but that's more realistic than them fighting NATO. And if the EU can take Russia by itself in an all out war scenario, imagine what the EU and the US, let alone NATO, could do. Russia would have no chance whatsoever, they'd be better off capitulating right off the bat. In the modern world, economies are linked in such a way that war is an unintelligent option. Russia is one of the few countries that could go to war with just about anyone without significant repercussions. China can't (EU or US), EU can't (with China or US, probably Japan too), US can't (China or EU, probably Japan too).

Poffertje China would join or at least support Russia. Not out of good relations but necessity. They would not want the Americans to further dominate the world and would bandwagon with them for political reasons. Its similiar to how the Americans supported the Communist Yugoslavs in the 1950s. Any war would massively disrupt the global economy due to the silly idea that countries should specialize production, sacrifice autarky and rely on foreign trade the idea being that interdependency will prevent wars when in reality in just makes most countries dependent on large powers.

It assumes good morale, everyone is mobilized, and everything is planned out well. In reality, no plan survives contact with the enemy. If Nato expected Russia to take out Ukraine in a few days, if Poland thought it wouldn't last 22 days, it just means that everyone vastly overestimated them. In his old US vs Russia video he clarfied that Russian cannot attack, Idk what changed. I also think people overestimate the "Ukraine is flat without hills". Every ambush I have seen has been in a rural areas, flat, with lots of houses. Every tank destroyed is in the open. I am starting to think that modern tanks are better inside a city than outside. As they need to hide more from long range atgm than anything else, and can hide quickly behind a building.

@@armand9356 are you sure you didn't just pick out their defeats? They beat Finland, and Afghanistan, idk what the 1989-91 is supposed to be, there was no war. Just too add context, Poland 1920 was part of the Russian civil war, which the USSR won. They actually beat Ukraine, the Caucasus counties, Central Asian, and Siberian. They didn't bother Finland. They lost to Baltics and Poland. You pick only that. In Afghanistan they walked in and took over without issue. Atleast in the invasion. Infact I would argue that Putin planned to take out Ukraine in a similar fashion. 2 main pincers, take capital with paratroopers. Look it up it's pretty interesting. In 1930s they attacked Finland lost a lot of troops initially, but later launched a successful offensive forcing Finland to surrender, so they did win that war. Don't forget that they attacked Poland in the east, and took Bessarabia fron Romania, and took the Baltics. Then they fought Germany, almost lost, but then beat the crap out of Germany. So really your arguement is either baised or based of ignorance. Russia history wins wars after through lots of men at the enemy, and wins with numbers. That's how they roll, and that's how they might roll in Ukraine. You know this war could go on for more than a few months? Even a year or a few years? I hope not. I estimate it will end soon depending on if Russia can defeat Ukraine in the east or not. Think Iraq-Iran war. Iraq received help from everyone, both the US and USSR. Iran only had Syria and China. Yet they nearly won, but were threaten by the US.

@@vishwanathasharma1409 last news I got the Russians havent even captured Mariupol or most cities they encountered. The russians even decided, against all better judgement, to send in a ground offensive against one city without any support and were stopped. The problem seems to stem from morale issues, logistics problems* and bad military leadership. Even the soldiers themselves were first told it was just a military training exercise to limit the amount of people actually aware of the plan. Then they were told they were going to liberate Ukrain's supressed pro-Russians. But its hard to justify "liberating the supressed" when you or those nearby are ordered to shoot up schools and hospitals and the people you are fighting aren't soldiers but the very people you are supposed to be liberating. Its easy for a Ukrainian to become a heroic figure for stopping and even killing a Russian. But its hard for a Russian to feel a hero if the people you "save" hate you and fight you, tell you they dont want you here, tell you about who the people were that you killed, see the families you tore apart. A rule of war: people dont want to die and they actually dont want to kill. The Ukrainians fight not just for their own lives but those of their families, they will take more risks and are more likely to shoot to kill. The Russians dont want to die and dont have a good reason to risk their lives. They are more likely to pull back. Just the fact that the Ukrainian airforce isnt absolutely destroyed yet is also a good indicator that something is going horribly wrong on the Russian side, which should have vastly superior air detection, air defenses and aircraft at its disposal to utterly wipe it out. The most modern Ukrainian aircraft is an aging version of what the Russians have, and the russians have several newer aircradt designs on top of that as well. *the logistics problems should not be there. Russia seemed to have planned the entire thing out, with a multi-pronged attack aimed at many vital targets. The lack of solid logistics to keep up their momentum shows a lack of planning. Even if the Russians had assumed a quick victory, they should have at minimum have a logistics network set up to sustain the offensives for a few weeks because you can never ever be certain your offensive succeeds. And if your offensive of Ukrain has any hickups then Russia suddenly looks weak, a broken bear. Which it now does. I always heard and saw through various channels like Binkhov's channel that the Russians were somewhat aging in their equipment but the size and training was formidable, they could even take half of Europe quickly! And now they seem to struggle with Ukraom. So Putin has to shore up its position by looking like a mad dictator and putting his nuclear forces on high alert to compensate for this weakness. You might say "ah but that is all western propaganda!", but why would the western propaganda make the russians look like it could wipe out Europe and then suddenly make it look like a paper bear once it makes its move? The first news was "whelp, bye bye Ukrain" before turning to surprise as the russians struggled.

There is a lot to unpack here. 1 - If Russia conquered Ukraine, they would lose considerable manpower trying to deal with an insurgency, funded and armed by the EU. 2 - UK would not send forces the long way to Russia, they would take their assets up and around to the White Sea (when its thawed) and land there. 3 - Turkey Cannot be neutral, they are a NATO member... so, they would have to allow Forces from the EU to operate in their area. 4 - Russia's game is ground forces, their air power isn't all that capable all this level of operations. 5 - Spain/Portugal/Netherlands/Belgians, may just stage their forces in Britain to enable rapid deployment. 6 - U.S. being barred from direct conflict would instead push weapons and intel to EU states 7 - This will get odd, but Australia/New Zealand are commonwealth of UK. So they would go up and attacks Kamchatka 8 - With no nukes allowed - Russian Navy would lose a considerable bite, and be left with a rather meek bark. 9 - Russia is so vast, it would be easy to go around Russian defenses. 10 - Take out the Russian Oil fields and destroy her ability to wage armored warfare. On the flip side. 1 - Russian ground forces doctrine would probably have them get all the way to Germany until they hit resistance. 2 - I don't think they would make the mistake of trying to push into Finland again with a unified force against them.. they would probably be on the defensive there. 3 - Their Cyberwarfare would be very effective disrupting EU activity. 4 - Russia would have a unified equipment advantage... as German, French, British equipment would have to try and work together. 5 - Lack of Russian Natural Gas would cripple Western Europe in the winter. 6 - Europe lacks vast resources like oil to sustain a long term conflict.

If the invasion of Ukraine has shown us anything it is that the entire premise was not only wrong but incredibly wrong. Ukraine would not "fight among itself" and the state of the Russian military is far worse than shown. Troops are untrained conscripts. They are considered so unimportant that they are not even told their mission. Despite fighting a few miles from Russia, supply chains are breaking down everywhere - food, fuel and spare parts are increasingly rare. Military strategy consists of bombing the hell out of civilians and sending waves of troops into areas to be mowed down. Add to that the rapid loss of population, collapse of the rouble and destruction of the economy and the idea that Russia could challenge the EU seems almost funny.

@@benjaminvmarder6519 Europe could win without invading all of Russia. Just bombing infrastructure and industry and force them to move their war production would kill them off. Remember the USSR outproducing Nazi Germany was the result of lend-lease! Of cause, we could see the PRC sending the parts and raw material as the US did, but if I remember right it's against the scope of the video, anyway this would most likely result in sanctions on the PRC economy so they would probably stay out of it. The Nato nation's armies and most of the other European armies have got much more and better logistics than Russia and Nazi-Germany have/had, or Napoleon for that matter. As long as the European armies attacked slowly, like 50-200 km and then a break, and they would simply as they would need to mobilize and start wartime production, then they would not run into the problems of Napoleon or Hitler. Also, there are lots of units in the European nations that are used to fighting in really cold weather, the biggest problem for Napoleon and Hitler's soldiers, just look at Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Baltic nation, even France and the other alp nations also got a decent amount. Napoleon was in a hurry as he was needed closer to home, and Nazi Germany was in a hurry as they knew that in a drawn-out conflict they knew that the USSR's advantage in people and industry especially with lend-lease would bring them in trouble long term. Europe does not have that problem in this conflict, just the opposite the longer it took the more soldiers could be mobilized and/or trained and the more industry could be re-purposed for wartime production.

No one, I repeat no one is threathening Russia or would ever even think about invading Russia, only Putin thinks that. Why would anyone want to attack Russia? Meanwhile Russia has invaded many of its neighbouring countries in the last years. Only Russia has invaded and attacked smaller countries. No one has provoked or attacked Russia, last time was 1940 and thats a fact.
