If I Started Streaming From ZERO, I'd Do This

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I completely restarted my streaming journey from scratch at the start of 2023, I went from always having 150 average viewers, to zero viewers… but then for my first stream on a new account, new platform, and entirely new audience… I had 80 average viewers, I did this by following a simple, clear, actionable series of steps, literally, anyone can do.
If you’re starting from 0, and you have no experience, it’s kind’ve like going on a cross-country road trip, you don’t just get in the car and drive, you need to plan out where you’re going, what you’re excited to see, what music you’re listening too, and most importantly… what snacks you want to bring.
If you didn’t do any of this, you’d end up bored, aimless, and starve to death… coincidentally that is the 3 main things that happen to new streamers.
To avoid this, I created a plan, specifically a Content Map.
by that I mean, you need to understand who your audience is, what they love, and then you need to stream with the idea of making content for Tik tok, Yt shorts, instagram, full youtube videos, and any of the thousands of other platforms.

How To Grow On Twitch?
If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.
But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!
Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?
The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.
Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up
By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.
If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.
For more information visit this Bitrate graph: stream.twitch.tv/
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

I've made a lot of videos about my new process to growth but realised they are all seperate, wanted to put EVERYTHING in one single video outlining my entire strategy in 2023, with specific examples! Hope you're all having a great mid year! And enjoying the content creation process!

Step 5 hits hard. I've always loved telling stories and saw streaming as an avenue to express it. The more I get into it the more I love it but I can admit growth has been slow. But hearing "content gets you growth, streaming is the "win/fun" part of it" puts it in the correct perspective. GOING LIVE is the win, everything else is to make that win taste so much sweeter. Good job and love the videos. I know I can kill it and its content like this rthat renforces it over and over.

Thank you so much for every single video you make! I remember back then it was difficult getting momentum but I did starting to reach an audience that enjoyed my videos. But I was also all over the place, I wanted to do everything at the same time and didn't have patience while trying to hard which in retrospect I now see was me not being true to my self. Consistency is key, and all your tips to reach new potential followers are golden. Thank you!

I'm late to the party but I can say I've seen several of your videos and really enjoy it. It's apparent you enjoy what you do. I haven't even owned a computer for years. Recently received a laptop and have a pc+several other things on the way. I plan to start streaming/making videos soon. I'm happy to know, several points you mentioned I've already been doing without realizing it. To start I plan on streaming/recording just 1 simulator. My goal isn't even to become big, just have fun streaming what I'd be doing anyway. My "niche" or "catch" is to start with nearly no knowledge of or experience with the game I'm playing so people can watch me suck and mess up and watch me (hopefully) get better over time. The same applies to my stream. I'll have very little experience with the software I'm streaming with (obs) and with crappy equipment so people can really see me evolve over time. Not set in stone but I'm also considering using NO addons/plug-ins for my game and possibly use keyboard only and not use my gaming controller for a true, real experience the way the game was designed to be played. Maybe this will help show people you CAN game without fancy, expensive add-ons and equipment. Also, since I go by rawkn (pronounced rock-in) I have several phrases I can use with my name. Will this raw, barebones game play and evolving from no knowledge and experience be fun for anyone else? Who knows. Honestly, I just hope to have fun doing it and if I have fun, maybe it'll be contagious and others can have fun. Will anyone read this whole thing I typed? Probably not, but hey I had fun!

I know that choosing your niche is very important step but the idea of it just kills me inside. Every week I want to do something different and I just don't have fun doing something I'm not in the mood for. I don't know how to get past this problem yet but I know I probably have to if I want to grow. My every attempt to choose a niche goes like this. "I love TTRPGs and worldbuilding so I'll do that. I want to do some art as well and it goes well together so why not. I can also play rpg games because it's mostly the same audience... But they might not necessarily want to watch gameplay. And I also like anime and do some videos about them, well about other non-anime series too. On top of that I would like to be a vtuber..." And so it goes...

You could make 2 channels, one that focuses on media commentary, and one that focuses on TTRPG and art. You can start with anime at first, then slowly start covering other stuff. If people like your anime commentary enough they might watch your commentary of the other stuff. I don't recommend doing it when starting out but it is something you can consider for later. TTRPG and art sounds great. Some ideas for what you could do with it are: You could make streams about designing characters for your TTRPG with input from your viewers. You could stream playing TTRPG with friends, take the best moments and add illustrations for them, and upload them to youtube. Maybe a visual novel-style presentation with backgrounds, character sprites that change expressions and some unique illustrations to elevate those special moments. As you get better with drawing you could maybe add some animations. Add in your shitpost humour. Reference memes and draw them. It'll make your TTRPG content stand out from others and could be your niche. You can also make a story that plays out in your TTRPG streams and TTRPG series to make it more interesting. Also gives people a reason to want to tune in for the next streams and shows, because they want to see what happens next. Think outside the box. You can always create your own niche that combines other things to create something unique. Don't be afraid to experiment.

@@Amelia_Starlight Yeah, two channels is the way to go but not really at the start. I still need to focus on one thing at the beginning. We'll see what future me does.

love info on the shorts but one thing which seem to be difficult to get right is software choice, how to structure it what key words to use etc. All the ones i have done have done are on Adobe rush that is limited but decent and free. I would be keen to see your process for recording (atm i clip twitch and download losing alot of detail) then put it together with some music off youtube audio library. I try to think of the best key words and title for the short and then post it once im done.

I focus mostly on twitch, and I am about to release my "first" youtube vid, I see slow but steady growth (although I gained 60 followers from one 20 hour stream lol). But I am going to start applying a lot of these to hopefully see some more drastic growth, and see you at the top 😉 lol

I've done KZread and streaming (on Twitch) since 2015. I have made many mistakes over the years, probably all of the mistakes you can make. But somehow I still have this passion for it. Before I used to not care about following the trends and was lazy with titles and thumbnails. Always thought it just took the right people to find my content. I've been looking into starting a new channel with new ideas lately and this popped up on my feed. You make great content with great advice. Thank you for being awesome!

I always like the idea of starting streaming - I love games, and music, my current hobby is DJ'in and producing music. Is there scope to combine both, but like you say have a content map for it?

Thanks for the tips! Still working on building my brand myself and a niche can be hard to find being a variety gamer but I’m gonna continue to push out what I can and keep being me! The hope is people will eventually like me and what I’m saying more than the game I’m playing. I’m still working on and getting better with every video being comfortable on camera and having my commentary be funny/good and add to the video but I have faith that with time and good continuous content and motivation it’ll happen!

This video, like all of your videos, is packed full of helpful info. It also makes me realize I struggle with one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle - making short form content. I just don’t have the vision or the creative mind for it. Making something interesting in less than a minute?! My brain goes blank.

2:24 This is the route i took back in 2016 and still do it in 2023. Its not a road that will necessarily have you grow faster but i didnt care how fast i grew my content . i live a simple life and i wanted to continue that stress free life in my content making as well . Happiness will always trump Stress :) Definitely make yourself happy first. Your viewers will see that and will wanna watch a happy streamer
