Did YouTube Just SOLVE Small Streamer Growth?!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Twitch Discovery is solved.... by moving to KZread! KZread just announced amazing updates and changes that make it so every Small Streamer has the chance to reach hundreds or even thousands of potential new viewers, that's right, KZread's new updates have completely destroyed Twitch.
The update has made major improvements that I love, while not really increasing the workload that Creators currently have to do, this video is breaking down exactly what the update is, the pros, cons, and what you should consider doing to make the most of it and grow your stream in 2023.

Why Is Twitch Discovery Not Good for Small Streamers
Twitch sorts their categories by most viewers, which means it is what we call a Kingmaker system, essentially when one Streamer gets lots of viewers, they rise to the top of the category or get more recommendations causing them to get more viewers who come browsing Twitch.
So beginners or small streamers often sit right down at the bottom of the categories and never get any clicks, because nobody scrolls down 20,000 streamers to find them, and nobody uses the filters over here to check by recommended or smallest despite what you might hope.
In reality, very few even check categories, most Viewers actually go straight to their Follower List or Favourite streamer meaning discovery on Twitch is relatively slow to start out.
Think about it, when you type twitch.tv into your bar, it usually auto-completes to your favourite streamers channel, not to a specific category or the homepage.
This kingmaker system has led to A LOT of outcry from smaller creators asking Twitch to do more for them and their discovery and in turn the same reason why educators such as myself or harris often push you guys to diversify across other platforms with algorithms such as TikTok or KZread… even if you hate that advice with all your heart.

What Is The New KZread Update?
Channel page updates are rolling out right now slowly and should be rolled out for everyone by the end of the year, this means now Videos, Shorts, and Live Streams will have their own tabs on the channel, if you’ve uploaded each of them…
no more unlisting Live streams, and of course that means, no more losing watch hours, but more importantly, uploading shorts without making your channel page look terrible and harder to locate your main videos.
Quickly as well, they are experimenting with a new recommendation tool on channel pages so the subs who visit get videos or content on your channel recommended to them based on what they enjoy most, so if someone subscribed to you for shorts, they’ll see shorts rather than videos when they come to your channel.

Being discovered while live totally depends on how you're titling your videos. We're constantly being found by new viewers while live. If you title them strategically just like you do recorded videos when someone searches for that or something similar you're there. Great video man. 🤘😎

Interesting to look at! I think you're right, it depends on the niche. But also on another level, I think it heavily depends on how high quality your content is, and how well the streams VoD was packaged. I've noticed some gaming channels that do more cozy style content, leaving there VoDs up and published has helped them because Viewers enjoy putting them on to lurk, sleep, have in the background, etc.

KZread's algorithm is absolutely superior for ANY content creator starting streaming. Smaller, newer streamers get picked up so good by the algorythm if they stream daily with regular uploads. I've been following severall smaller Streamers jump from 50 to 500 viewers in the matter of 2 weeks. I'm very happy to see that. Consistency is and stays key tho.

I've genuinely considered starting streaming lately, been watching hours of guides of both the technical stuff and behaviour, yours especially, and I've been working on a setup the past weeks etc, but I'm not sure whether to start streaming on YT or Twitch anymore, especially with the recent Twitch changes I've heard about. I've been setting up my Twitch too, but this video has really made me consider YT.

Great video, been following the changes really closely and been listening to you on the podcast. Been preparing for the changes heaps by starting to upload shorts and midform in the same channel, and about to do 1 stream a week on KZread and already seeing insane growth! Thanks for being so informative and clear!
I am beyond so happy I found your videos. I'm building myself a new pc and plan on going into content creation and live streaming after some more planning afterwards. Your videos have given me so many resources and things to really consider once I start.
Watched 4-5 vids completely from start to finish & truly appreciate the value & insights you provided in all & look forward to applying the information I’ve taken into the goals I am now setting from the vids you provided. Truly appreciate it🙏🏽

I found your video while looking up tutorials on how to start streaming on twitch. I am an artist and i want to go back to streaming while drawing after not doing so in almost 10 years, as well as making regular long form video content like studio vlogs, and this comparison and information about youtubes new features i was not aware of is really valuable! After watching your video i think i will just forego twitch completely and just start on youtube with streams as well. :) Thank you for this! I will be sure to watch some of your other tips as well.
A creator friend of mine just made this move and has started over. Thanks for making this to help others understand some things better about YT as a platform. I have shared this with them and thanks again!
Planning to get into streaming soon. Your guides are extremely helpful. Already have implemented some of your suggestions. I was currrently on the fence about what platform should I start streaming on, looks like that problem is solved now, thanks to you :)

love to see new videos in this chanel, i really like your tips and you are a big inspiration for me in content creation :3
Great video, once again. Thank you for sharing this valuable info with us all, Eljay. 🤗
I appreciate you addressing both pros n cons of everything
Bro your cam and lighting is so cozy i would watch your videos all day no cap
Awesome video! I still haven't gotten into short and live here on KZread because I never liked the messy look it leaves on the channel page, so this new change is amazing news! I make music-related content, usually around 3-4 minutes long. I was able to reach 1000 subscribers in a year but the watch hours feel like it will always be impossible to reach.
I did it. I did my first stream yesterday and I had two viewers lol it was awesome. This is the first time in my life I'm doing something that I really like. I'm here to say thanks to you cause I used a lot of your advices and things I learned in your videos. I'm from Brasil and I stream in portuguese. I'm sure one day I'll be a full time streamer cause I finally found something that makes me feel excited about, something that drives my hungry for knowledge. Thanks again.

I know this video has been around for a while now but thanks for making this, I’ve just dropped twitch for KZread and the info is fantastic.
WOW! What a fantastic video. Thanks so much! Going to explore all of these ideas. ❤🤘
I love the content and practical strategies that you gave on how to best take advantage of KZread inter-connectivity. Even pointing out trends that I've seen on TikTok such as videos that tell people to click the live button. This way such a great video and got a sub from me👍
Cleaning up that homepage UI will be gaming changing when it comes to shorts content! Live streaming on KZread is advantageous right now since there are more views than streamers, but Twitch's latest moves will definitely bring a lot more streamers to this platform. I hope KZread continues to make these changes. I believe they could easily overtake Twitch if they solve their own streaming problems.
Today will be my first day streaming and I’m glad to hear this news. I’ll definitely be putting more focus into KZread then I originally thought thanks to this.
I would have never known about this new update if it weren’t for this nice and informative video, thank you!

and it has the added benefit of not being owned by amazon. Google is also filthy rich, but them being ready to split 70/30 is still much more generous. The only real downside is the problem of fiunding specific streams on KZread, everything else sounds like a dream to me.
Great video. I'm actually a huge fan of this update! Question for you, as I've reached out to Todd on twitter about this as well. Do you see this update as a gateway for creators whos content is lets say streaming gear/stream setup focused to start live streaming gaming streams on that same channel? For instance, I have grown to roughly about 30k subs in the past 2 years and all my videos are streaming industry focused (gear, updates, OBS tips etc.) Do you think it's now possible to live stream (games) on my main channel here on KZread without hurting my channel?
i spent time off streaming to work a summer job and damn it was hard to try and recover my twitch streams. I'm gonna start trying to stream on twitch and do shorts now. Thank you for consistently sharing your content with us and helping fellow streamers.
This video was very well made and you explained what the smaller channel like ourselves were actually struggling with! We started our channel in March and focused primarily on short form content. We definitely grew however we did notice when we did longer videos the short viewers were left unaware that we even did it. We took a short break and came back with a new plan to push shorts every day using clips from longer videos and telling the viewers the long videos are on the channel however again this didn't really do much due to the difficulty for a shorts viewer to go from the shorts feed to your channel. Ever since the update has been announced we have noticed our videos getting way more views than they did before (from 5 views to 30 views which is big for us). Focused a lot more energy in thumbnails and titling also helped but with this update being announced this is HUGE! Would encourage those on the fence to take advantage of the shorts whilst these updates are being implemented!

I swapped to KZread RIGHT before all the Twitch drama about the 50/50 splits, twitch con stuff, gambling stuff, and I'm glad I did! I had already built a community over on KZread through normal videos that was three times the size of my Twitch following, so I get 20-60 viewers almost every stream! On twitch, I averaged at 10-20 viewers, and had never gotten above 30 viewers without a raid. Definitely happy the transition was smooth for me!
I hope you feel better soon eljay
I personally prefer KZread just because of custom thumbnails in streams. Granted, you're less likely to be noticed because of the amount of streams/channels that don't do gaming content. Also shorts ROCK (both the ones on my legs atm and the ones on YT), really helps with smaller channels get noticed!
Thanks!,I am going to start my channels soon and you have been very helpful and inspiring

Some good tips. I just started streaming overwatch 2 on PlayStation last week on my channel. And yea. I’ve had a few people pop in but getting traffic seems hard. Still learning all of this. But I’m mainly doing it for fun. Would be cool to see it grow though.
I'm really excited for these changes. It's gonna make things better :)
I've had this video on "watch later" for a little over a week now since it really did feel like main monitor content, and I'm glad I paid attention. I already make shorts from my clips, but I really need to put in the time to make youtube videos. I've been thinking of trying youtube streaming for a while. I definitely need to give it a try.
Amazing video as always! Love the insight and advice!
Great Video - I am going to start streaming on youtube simply because I like how everything is presented in terms of the layout etc.. Granted it doesn't have the numbers which twitch does buttt neither do i lol. So I may as well use a platform I will enjoy

Thank you for posting this. As a small streamer, discoverability has been difficult. The info on shorts is very helpful, I will be looking to upload more shorts on my channel.
You can customize your channel page a lot on YT, and put specific playlists on your channel landing page. So I put different streaming series in their own playlists, when I’m setting up the stream, before I even go live. Shorts are also in their own playlist, and then only the current series playlist is on my channel page, the other playlists featured are my long form edited videos. All nicely organized.
This is literally why I never uploaded shorts!! so excited man thanks Eljay
Always brilliant videos‼️‼️ you should do a Yt and Twitch live comparison🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for making this Vid, very helpful my friend
I actually just decided last night, I am leaving Twitch and coming to KZread so that iI can do everything in one place shorts, long form and streams. Plus I feel more "at home" on KZread. Love your videos btw!
Thank you so much for all these videos, thanks to you I finally made that jump from twitch to KZread, now I'm chilling at 676 subs in just 28 DAYS!! thank you again man, i couldn't have made the jump with ought your help, i hope you have a great day!!
I’m excited for this change. I’m trying to slowly go away from my Twitch. I have >1500 subs on KZread and 355 on Twitch. I like the idea of making the shorts to advertise your live while your live. This to me was one of the best ideas I heard from your video. Thank you for that. This is a long grind and it’s a hard process.
I'm gonna start multi streaming. Maximize my profits and viewership. But this is a great video. Love it. I'm super excited for KZread new changes
I've had shorts and lives with some produced vids on my channel (didn't believe in separating it all) and it actually works really well. I've been doing the strat of releasing a short about an hour before going live for months now and it works really well! Also I leave the livestream up after its over as a VOD and it get views. I will say that I think its a niche thing cause I have a gaming channel and the same strat isn't nearly as effective as it is with my commentary/react channel. Gaming content on YT is for sure harder to crack through I'll say. Great video with many great points.
Excellent thanks for the video mate I'm definitely wanting to grow my youtube channel (this isn't a plug) but this is definitely what I was looking for, advice from the heart :) thank you, ps I've subscribed :) 👍
Thanks buddy! I'm just about to start streaming in December! I definitely would appreciate of a comparison video! Because if the hype is real, I might start streaming here! ;)
I clicked on this video by accident but I stayed til the end intentionally, great video :)
I like Twitch because I just feel more "free" and so far the community seems to be better. I have a LONG way to go and I'm stuck at like 2.3 average viewers out of the 3 to become affiliate (I have everything else) lol I just want to make emotes and stickers. However, YT seems to be heading in a great direction and I do love YT. Once I learn to edit videos properly and not just upload streams but have a purpose, I may make the switch or do both. Your videos are really helping the process. Thank you for making such awesome content!

It's funny, since moving to KZread I have felt more free than ever, streams are so fun because not everything rests of them, and I know the channel is growing thanks to the other content. Freedom is the exact word I'd use to describe my move, it's really interesting to read this afterwards.
Oh I love this video thank you !!!! I’m a new small streamer and slowly trying to work my way up to being monetized. Being a mom and doing this is hard but hella fun 😊
I was originally using an unlisted stream playlist 4:23 and now I've just started not un-listing my streams after watching this video. Thanks for the info. I've been waiting SO LONGGGG for the sperate category feature for live streams. But now the question is do I "re-list" all of my old unlisted live streams and bombard my sub's notif bell to get my watch hours back?
Hope you're feeling better now!
Solid stuff, I made the switch to KZread when I realized I wasn't getting *any* growth on Twitch. I got into YPP in 4 months. KZread is the place to be for new creators, Twitch has some major changes to make.
After years of streaming on Twitch, I did my first youtube stream this week, It took a minute to get used to but I had a ton of fun with it. Will definitely be back to it
Legend! I’m keeping my streams from now on!
Thanks dude.. im going to start grinding
Oh god now you hyped me so much for KZread streaming! I'm already a twitch streamer with about 15 average viewers and i started to post new youtube videos again after a couple of month of pause, so i dunno what to do... do i switch from twitch to YT also for streaming? Please my man do as soon as possible the video for tips on streaming on KZread so I can make my final decision! This video helped me so so much, thank you very much for helping out the community!
To be fair, when it comes to properly sorting/separating streams, shorts, and videos, KZread is working on a better UI. As far as I know it's already rolling out on mobile, and it is clean af. I don't think it will be necessary to unlisted streams anymore in the near future. Edit: well shoot, maybe I should've waited a little longer before pausing to comment. Anyhow, YT is certainly making great changes. Edit #2: There are lives channels in the recommended section of this video, they are being pushed.
Lovely content as always! ❤

Doing a lot of research and will start streaming for a semester away from college to take a break and try something new- Do you think that currently streaming on twitch, then using those VODs to create videos, and then shorts to promote those videos is a smart way to start off right now to diversify? Hey there! Just discovered your channel with this video - I am actually not a streamer but a "youtuber", having done LPs so far, but was thinking about streaming as well and if it's just to supplement my main content. I saw that you made a video already about Things you should check before doing each twitch stream. While most of that can be applied to youtube as well, it would be great if you could do something similar for youtube. Like youtube streaming for beginners or something. Also I would like your opinion on how useful it is to use streaming as supplement for non-live content, instead of the other way around.
Hey Eljay quick question. with shorts is it best to put in a detailed description and loads of relevant tags or just to clip it from your phone for a quick upload? this has been bugging me for ages. love the videos man hope you feel better soon buddy!

I've found that more details, more data, and more information KZread has the better it is at sending shorts to the relevant audience. Just personal testing though, but other channels I've talked to and helped noticed when they took my advice of using tags and description SEO that they started getting much faster short views.
Shorts are king I'm talking about the ones you wear. Great video💪

Want to move to youtube the next days finally. Now I am ready for this. Had enough of this "sad feeling most of the time to not become enough viewers and the recognition I tried to get in the last 2 years. It was okay, I have some firms and cooperations around me, but the motivation disrupts if you are doesnt "go live" everyday and "function". Its so hard to get attention on twitch and mostly "big" streamers getting the full audience you will never has had without "connection", as many as you tries. In my case I tried so many thinks out for me and the people, but the audience doesnt see it often. thats demotivating. I only want to live and spread out what I love and to show it to the people to distract them in this hard times to get the best feelings on a hard day.. Now I am ready for a chance and a new begin. Thanks for your great tips and motivation! Best
