In this part the journey continues from Halle (Saale), which is the starting point of the high speed railway to Bamberg via Erfurt. ICE trains can travel at 300 km/h there, but the ICE 703 didn´t exceed 250 km/h until Erfurt that day. Between Erfurt and Bamberg it reached 265 km/h for a short period of time. On the way to Nuremberg the train has to get through a large construction site, where the railway gets upgraded to four tracks. On the long distant tracks there are supposed to be 230 instead of 160 km/h possible sometime. Behind Nuremberg there is another 300 km/h fast railway, which our train takes towards Ingolstadt, traveling contantly at 250 km/h. The last railway to Munich is limited to 160 km/h, except behind Petershausen, where 200 km/h are allowed.
