Ibanez PIA Review (owners version)

Ойын-сауық

When I was buying my PIA recently I noticed there were virtually no non-Ibanez or music shop reviews. If you’re anything like me, when you’re buying something new, you want to research and see as much as possible about it. So hopefully you’ll find this review useful, even if it’s just to see more coverage of these beautiful guitars.

Hey David, Wow, what a kind review of the PIA. I 'm very appreciative. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this and for being so thorough. I'm sure glad you like it!!! Not sure if you've seen the new Onyx Black PIA we released this year. I'm making a little video for it right now as I struggle through trying to play it with one hand since I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. But the guitar still sounds great. You play with great tone my friend. Thanks again. (Steve Vai).

Hi Steve, I'll take the view this is really you. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate the message. I have many guitars, but the PIA is the best I've ever played, you and Ibanez created perfection here. The black one appeared on U.K. music shop websites just after Christmas and then disappeared within 24 hours as if they were mistaken. I will order one as soon as they appear again, can't wait to see you video. I wish you a complete and speedy recovery and hopefully see you live again one day. I was there the night in Birmingham where you and your road crew had been stuck at customs, arrived late and had to build the entire stage and immediately play without a sound check. You were all brilliant as always.

The solution for the issue with the bar hitting the knob is to take a cue from the Majesty: • Use a shorter knob • Recess it • Make it push/push

Mike Kalnasy many thanks. I’m using a Helix straight into the desk. Clean sounds is a Archetype Clean amp into a 4x12 Cali v30 chorus delay reverb. Lead sound is an ANGL Meteor into a Marshall IR, transistor delay and room reverb. I’m not sure if that helps. Do you use a helix?

David Upton I use a few tube amps into a boss Waza TAE. What is incredible through all the reviews is the tone that the pickups maintain through different amps being used. None of the amps are coloring the tone a ton and the guitar and pickup tone is really shining through with that classic Vai lead tone. Awesome review man, really selling me on this guitar. I haven’t owned an Ibanez before but this may be my first one.

Mike Kalnasy I use it into stereo FRFRs live with a feed out of those into the PA too, give a monster dimension to the sound. I also have some presets there I creat a different stack left and right and maybe retune one fractionally or delay the note fractionally to creat a twin guitar sound. Awesome up loud.

How is the rhythm sound in bridge pickup for lets say 80s metal (Judas Priest, Maiden etc). How tight the bridge pickup is for palm muted riffs? Obviously Steve is more lead player.

Petri K these things are often personal taste and all relative to others. I play through a Helix so can model just about anything from a rig point of view and plugging this in probably creates the richest 80’s metal plan muted rhythm sound I’ve had across all my guitars. We play Maiden, Dio, Sabbath, Whitesnake and various other 80’s tunes in my band and it work well up loud. I’ll try and record something for you to hear today vs a Les Paul.

nice guitar but the price is unjustifiable. And i dont really want a guitar named after Steve's wife....i know it stands for "performance in art", but the double-entendre is undeniable.

I like the guitar, Not a fan of the trem arm fitting loosely in the trem. Kinda just dangles and is very loose. It sucks compared to.my Jem or my jacksons.

Mine isn't lose at all, in fact the opposite, you may have an issue with the nylon washers on the trem bar maybe.

Neck-thru sustain is another debunked myth long held by people who doesn't actually understand solid body electric guitars. People will hear something and blame it on something completely unrelated to the actual cause: e.g., tone-wood.
