If you do everything in reverse order you'll have a better product. Oil, asparagus, salt and pepper then after the asparagus cooks for a while and is a few mins from being done add garlic and maybe some butter or more oil and then pull once garlic is looking cooked.

a better way is to start as in the video except removing the garlic before you throw in the asparagus, and add it before plating. That way, the asparagus absorbs the garlic aroma through the oil

Cutting the tips that deep into the stalk might be okay when asparagus grows in your backyard, and you need to use it up before going bad, but for people who have to pay up around four bucks per pound? It makes more sense to only cut what you have to, and every stalk is different. I would also question frying the garlic "til brown" and then adding the asparagus. By the time the asparagus is even half way done, the garlic is overcooked and bitter. I don't think this person knows ANYTHING about cooking!

  • @oregonpatriot1570

    Жыл бұрын

@@based3765 The thing to remember after trimming the ends is that there's a slightly waxy covering on the stalks that makes it hard to season. Most people simply season olive oil and cover the stalks with that. I like to use a potato peeler to remove about 2/3, that way I can soak them in a salt brine solution for a couple hours to season them deeply. You can also use a fork to poke holes. A ziplock bag works well to keep them in the salt water. After that, there's many ways to cook it. Roasting, pan fried stir fried. It's better with some snap to it, so don't overcook. BTW? If you like salads? Those curls you removed with the potato peeler taste great raw and add some more crunch to your salad.

Will definitely the salad part! Why is it so expensive though ? :)

@@based3765 The price is outrageous, but it should get better as American growers are able to harvest. It's important to understand that it takes from two to FIVE years from planting to harvesting from seed. After the plant is established, it comes every spring. They don't pull it up 'roots & all'. They cut it at ground level. Here's a good video showing the process. kzread.info/dash/bejne/f36ulLyFnZubYtY.html Normal 'late spring/summer prices are under two bucks a pound, but if you keep your eyes open you can find sales. I just paid $0.97 per pound (limit 3 pounds) at Safeway last week. This week it's back to $3.97 per pound. I've got about 1/2 pound left. Here's some GREAT NEWS (if you don't mind doing some leg work) Asparagus grows wild in almost every state. I used to harvest it in the spring back in Michigan. It's hard to see because it's usually much shorter than the surrounding grasses, but if you walk around in late summer the plant has 'bolted' (getting ready to seed) and it's a LOT easier to see. Simply remember where it was and return the following spring. Here's a good page for harvesting wild asparagus. kzread.info/dash/bejne/inispJuTkb2wlto.html
