that quote I totally understand, she seems capable of doing it and pulling it off. I question the Korean education grading peers by rank, it can cause more stress and animosity. Why compete against each other when you can compete against yourself like the grading system in the US. That girl is rear to come by and she is unique, I pray and support her success.

I have never seen a more pure, precious, and pretty girl in my life. She has a passion for education, but not for the ridiculous school system. Her high EQ automatically qualifies her in my eyes. I hope she can still go to a good college after being homeschooled. I have a feeling homeschooling in Korea is viewed quite differently than in other parts of the world. Ah I wish her all the best!!

People with huge, soft hearts like Minju will always be successful no matter what school or degree they have, because they listen to their heart and not their wallets, not society, not peer pressure, not politics. Yasmin Sodré definitely depends on person. It takes somebody with a lot of self-control and diligence to keep on top of the work. I know some kids who did homeschooling and never learned good time management skills. But if the child is taking the initiative and wants to home school to get ahead on studies, I think she’s fine. Some schools only let you take 8 classes a year and homeschooling in the us can let you take 15+. Especially if she’s only doing it for a temporary period of time and is going back to high school, i think it’ll be a good learning experience. I did homeschooling for a year to take college coursework. There’s always people who will look at you and assume you dropped out. But honestly, it really helped me cram in so many extra classes I wanted to take.

I work at a facility for women with disabilities and let me tell you that sadly, NONE of the siblings of the residents where i work show the amount of love and happiness toward their disabled sibling like that little girl does. Some don't even come at all to visit their own family. I started crying when the little girl was talking about her brother bc it's sadly so rare to see someone love their sibling that much, even though I', surrounded by disabled people. It's sad but the good thing is that my co-workers always give them the love they deserve. This little girl deserves the world and I hope her mom will allow her to at least try this out, she seems like she really has a solid plan. She's not doing this bc she doesn't want education, she just wants to do something that she feels will help her learn more about herself and her studies.

I'm sad that everyone in this show thinks that it's weird for a little girl to quit school. She has a really clear goal and most importantly she wants to find herself during her homeschooling. As a teenager who just graduated from high school, I don't know who I am or what I'm going to pursue in the future due to the fixed schedule and fixed education of school. The only thing I learn from school is to study hard and get good grades. I don't even have time for myself. That's why many teenager who just graduated from high school find it hard to plan their future and it's pathetic to see that even though we learn a lot of things but we don't even know ourselves for our whole life. So I am really surprised by the mind of this little girl. Just because they don't follow the pattern of society doesn't mean they're weird or rebellious.

I relate to you. I will be a junior in high school, and although I do have a choice for my college course, I feel like it's not entirely my decision. Since my mom has always done things for me, I don't even know how to decide on my own, or think about what would be most helpful and beneficial for me. Also, I was never able to try things that I find interesting due to my parents being way too overprotective of me. They kept me inside my shell, and the result is I don't even know who I am or what I'm truly capable of. P.S I'm sorry for the long rant. I just felt that I needed to let this out of my chest.

It's really hard to find young adults with a set goal and she seems to have one and is firm about it. I don't see anything wrong with it. She's a very sweet and thoughtful girl. I did homeschooling and it helped a lot with my anxiety. Competing with other kids to be at the top all the time is what's scaring her so much. Her mom needs to be more considerate or reassure her daughter that it's ok to get bad grades sometimes. I think homeschooling would be better for her anyway

  • @TinyMighty10

I think they should compromise on this. I think the mom should at least allow her to try homeschooling and to make sure she keeps good grades and studies. She seems mature and soo sweet to be soo selfless. But I hope Minju remembers that she's entitled to happiness as well. I understand the mom doesn't want her to become stuck but she shouldn't pressure her soo much to be "perfect" because it not only puts stress and pressure on her daughter, it can stay with her that anything less is bad. I think the family just needs openly communicate more and they'll be fine. Also to the people who question whether one day she'll get married because of her brother...they need to be quiet. She's still young. She loves her brother dearly and her family with such loyalty and conviction, any man would soo lucky to have her as a life partner. Minju, I wish the best and happiness for you and your family. Don't ever lose your sense of love, compassion and kindness. Good luck!

I've been in college for nearly 5 years and I haven't made a single friend. I talk to people in class, but nothing besides that.

@@MadCheshireHat I'm 16 and I'm in high school It's so hard when you try to make others happy but you actually aren't. I'm shy and awkward but in my country homeschooling isn't like a thing so I don't even know how I managed to go through these years. I feel like I can talk like this in the comments but if I do in real life nobody will understand so I choose not to. I just want to say whoever is reading this that you are stronger than you think but don't pretend to its okay if you cry that's not something to be ashamed from we are just the way we are and we can't change that.

as someone who also has a disabled sister, I can relate so much to this little girl. I swear the pressure is no joke because it feels like the only hope in my family is me so I can totally understand where she comes from. and I felt it too i mean i can't hang out with my friend like the others because I need to stand by my sister all the time and sometimes it's upsetting but sadly I can't do anything about that. actually, I'm glad that this girl talks about this so her mom knows about her feeling.

she's the absolute cutest and sweetest little girl ever. i thought her decision was a rash decision but it was extremely well thought out and i hope she gets to go through with it. i still feel like she actually wants to be homeschooled and then go to an actual high school which is fine! she can get so much done through homeschooling. i feel like the apology wasn't the thing she wanted but she honestly deserves the world. also i was very judgemental about the mom for the first half but i understand where she is coming from. everything that she said was not defensive or unreasonable, she had her reasons. i'm wishing the best for minju and her family. seriously, what a lovely girl.

This little girl is very mature for her age, her mom is lucky that she has a daughter like her. I like how the host said mom shouldn’t confine Minju in a happiness box that she made, its true how sometimes you think will be good for other doesn’t necessarily means it will make them happy. I hope the girl will grow up well and be able to pursue her dreams.

Honestly this is not a concern for the mom. Its the concern for the daughter. The daughter already laid out her future plan, schedule and everything. She seems really mature for her age so its like 90% she will follow her plan. It's just a different between homeschooling and public school, but whatever school you went. You study. So if the mom would be more understanding and open minded, everything will be perfect.

This girl is me 10 years ago. Perfect student, perfect grades, perfect image for her parents, hard time fitting in, extremely independent, a disabled older brother and the constant fear of disappointing her parents. It’s really hard to see this because it took me 5 years of depression and an eating disorder to realize how beautiful life is to waste it on those thoughts... I really hope she does what she feels it’s better for her and becomes happier with time

"She doesn't have to get the best grades but she's been doing really well so far." This is probably just me, but I'm not too grade-conscious. What pushes me to have the greed to be number one is that they already made an image of me, good at studying. They have higher expectations for me than I do. 🤧✊ n e ways, I started bawling, like, the moment she (the 14-year-old) started talking about school.

You´re the sweetest child I´ve ever met in my entire life Minju, I hope everything ends going up well for you and I hope you´ll be happy pursuing whatever you want to do without caring for what others will think about it, just don´t let the world to take away from you all of that pure desire to make others happy, but don´t let that desire to be the only thing in your life either. If you´re happy you´ll happiness will spread to all people around you, so don´t worry!! , lots of love from Colombia. ERES UNA NIÑA PRECIOSA, UNA JOYITA COMO TU SE ENCUENTRA EN MUY RARAS OCASIONES ASÍ QUE NO TE PREOCUPES QUE TODO VA ASALIR BIEN.

Schooling in Korea is like a competition. We can't blame the parents if they have high expectations because their children must fit in, and survive their society. But visibly, the pressure is too much to handle. No wonder lots of young people ends up rebellious, suffer from depression, or committing suicide. I bet it's tough for them to be somebody that they don't even want to be. Another problem also is their beauty standard. Even if you have a good resume and academic accomplishments but you don't have a pleasing personality there's a lesser chance for you to have a work. I read from the news articles, blogs, vlogs, and other sources that employers are very particular with their resume photos instead of qualifications. Few years ago, their government conducted a research on workers capabilities and the results were not that good. Most workers end up getting fired, resigning, or committing suicide either because of incapability to do the job, pressure, and stress. Because of the stereotyping, the qualified people end up being successful abroad. So that is another worry for the government because they are losing population also. I am really amazed at how Koreans survive the pressure from their society. They are one of the hardworking people I know.
