As someone from South Dakota... this video is extremely accurate. For some reason the interactions with the guy in the thrift shop make me think he's a human trafficker. I’m born and raised here in South Dakota I had to do a double take when I saw this video like “Bro he doesn’t mean the store in Mitchell?” Yes yes he does. It is surreal knowing other people that have met the owner, he is a very nice person but yeah creepy and weird. He made some jokes to my girlfriend about leaving me which I kinda laughed off. I will say though you didn’t mention the really creepy kids play area he has in the store that is definitely no very safe for children to play in for how dark it is back there. I drove through Mitchell earlier this year and can confirm the shop has closed down, so who knows where he is now.

A few months ago now, my family and I went on a road trip and came across this place. My brother and I practically begged to go in because we’ve heard stuff about it online and whatever and wanted to see it for ourselves. To say in brief, it was very similar to how everyone described it to be. A nauseating feeling rushed over me and almost kicked me into fight or flight. The same guy (I presume) came out to greet us, and was very friendly with us. We told him we were on a road trip, he gave us some pointers on restaurants and whatnot, just the regular conversation starters you would expect from some people not from around there. But it took a turn when he said something along the lines of “You’re a very tall young man, very handsome, I’d love to adopt you”. And a good thing to note is that my family and I are from Chicago, we reside there. This comment made my parents flip. We left a few minutes after that and left town as soon as we could. LOL.

I saw your first video and begged my father to take my there when we went to South Dakota. We saw all that Ted saw and also smelled the suffocatingly large scent of insence. But Ted didn't mention the playplace. Inside this land of chaos is a dimly lit hellish labyrinth of jungle gym, surrounded by warning signs that only those ten and under could traverse safely lest the whole contraption fall to decay. I, a thirteen year old at the time with the entertainment capacity of a five year old, braved the labyrinth and recorded it all. I'm shocked that Ted was able to get ANY usable footage out of this because I could barely see as it was. I remember very little about the place except that there was an air hockey, foosball, and other tables of various enjoyable electronic value scattered around. And the slide. There was a giant green slide at the top of the playplace. I and a kindergartener cursed with entry to this torture chamber traversed to it. I got there first with my middle schooler legs and prepared to go down the slide. That's when I saw it. In the middle of the slide, unavoidably large, was a puddle of unidentifiable purple goop. I knew the danger was imminent, so I warned the child to find another exit and left the foul plane. My advice to you - never enter this chamber. my entire family was in the worst, grossest mood after this adventure. DO NOT RISK THE ENTRY.

Fun fact: South Dakota also doesn't **just** have corn, it also is home to the headquarters of multiple credit card companies. The reason why this is is actually pretty straightforward and due to a few factors: -Most states had interest caps on the credit cards at around 10%, which unsurprisingly was losing those companies a good deal of money. -South Dakota, however, had passed a law around that time that made it so that there was no cap on interest. -The Supreme Court ruled that the credit card companies can charge interest based on where their headquarter is. So yeah, due to that ruling dozens of them moved their head honcho housing on over to Sioux Falls, which also made it one of the top cities for business. Also, north Dakota is only good for honey and wheat and maybe missile silos(?) so don't lump South Dakota with them. ~from, a South Dakotan. also don't quote me on any of this i may be completely wrong on it.

It's places like this that really hammer home the fact that scholars have yet to define real parameters between what separates a religion from a cult other than public perception and number of members.

Doesnt help that the theater scene has a pretty high number of (especially in highschool theater) visceral disbelievers that won't stop at anything to tell me my beliefs are inheritly narcissistic and bigoted.

I went to South Dakota for a work trip. The guy I had a meeting with asked me if the gas in my state had ethanol in it and then proceeded to talk about corn for 20 minutes. He then told me I had to go to Story Book Land, and let me tell you that was the strangest tourist thing I have ever done.

I've not yet ascended to the glory of Platinum Ted status, but I have been to this store many times before. My dad loves to go there every time he stops by the Cabela's there, and I have been through on many father/son hunting trips. I wish everyone watching this could truly understand how buck wild insane this store is at times, but you genuinely have to experience it to appreciate it in its full, grotesque splendor. 10/10 video all the same.

@@radioactivepower600nanaspersec thankfully the dude was busy with another customer when i went in so i didn’t have to talk to him. but the whole place felt really small and endlessly large at the same time?? like the ceiling was too small but there were too many rooms to look through without the fear of getting lost. seeing the sun after leaving was like returning to a past life.
