I feel this. I had our fourth child 10 months ago and our oldest is 6. The few times I get two nights of decent sleep I am a pretty great, patient mom. I long for that all of the time but with everyone waking up at random times of the night means that I get to feel like I'm fighting for my life just to stay patient and kind. I hear it gets easier.

My second was way easier to manage the lack of sleep compared to the first. Plus, if it makes you feel better, data shows life expectancy is longer with children so…. Yeah. Sleep deprivation doesn’t matter. But also I feel like at your stage something isn’t matching up… a 10 month old should be able to go an 8 hour stretch and the other kids should sleep around 12 hours a night 🤔

I feel this. After nearly 6 months of extremely disrupted sleep (baby would wake sometimes every 45minutes-1hr) I truly felt I was going crazy. I hallucinated on multiple occasions. Baby also only napped for about 45 minutes at a time, so catching up during the day was not really possible. I decided to sleep train at that point. At 16 months now, we still have night wakings but it has become much better. I went into sleep training thinking it would fix everything, not knowing that it doesn't always "work". Best tip for tired parents out there is to get yourself to sleep as soon as possible after baby is asleep. It sucks not having time to yourself or with your partner, nor having date nights and such but it's the only way I have survived during this season. Shout out to all the dads helping out during the nights! Hang in there...

I on average have slept 6 hours each night for the past 20 years, but I have five kids and work very long hours in a professional career, self-employed, I am now sick from a stress-related illness, so there is merit to what you are saying about 8 hours being best practice. I think these days both parents work together much better than we did in my day, I got up to every feed, nappy change, all of it, on my own. I can remember feeling like a Zombie for months at a time, especially the newborn faze.

As a fencesitter, this video and this kind of statement "days are long, but the years are short" scares the shit out of me from wanting to be a parent. Do I really wanna live a life where my days are too long to bear and my years are passing by? Matt says at the end of the video: "And in the end, the sacrifice is worth it". Honestly asking, is it?

@@TheScipio3There is a fascinating article from a guy who went on to write a book about regretting having a kid and if he could go back he would not have had one. I feel like everyone says parenting is worth it and sure, it can be, but I think hearing from those who have kids and now wish they didn't is really interesting. People demonize them but I think it's just another perspective to listen to and I bet there are a lot of people who feel that way but maybe wouldn't admit.

I’m glad someone has actually quantified the difference between sleep before & after having a baby. I have a 9-month-old and I truly wish I’d started to really understand the best ways to manage my baby’s sleep BEFORE the 4-6 month “it’s okay to sleep train now” age. And the SNOO is amazing! I hope it will help in the coming months to get some much needed consolidated sleep for all of you. ❤

The peanut butter scene was brilliant. I have a 3 month old and feel you guys. Solidarity. When my oldest two were a toddler and baby (22 months apart), that was pretty tough too because my toddler struggled to fall asleep, while our baby slept better than the oldest, but obviously had to get some feeding times in the middle of the night while we were starting to potty train the oldest who needed to make bathroom trips. My second slept the best out of my three babies, but this one is not too bad! The first was definitely my worst sleeper until he was 3. Hang in there!

Really needed to see this as a mom of twin girls. My husband hallucinated about babyheads everywhere, at one point I thought he put a baby in my arms while I was asleep (turned out I was holding my pillow against me. Sadly, we couldn't split up, because we had 2 babies. I got a very bad postnatal depression and we reached out for help. Luckily the nicest people wanted to help out, even during nighttime. I hope your son will sleep through the nights in a while❤ he's so cute.

I was having a conversation with Nat the other night and she literally fell asleep while I was talking to her haha. Sorry you had such a difficult time. Glad you were able to get the support you needed.

I'm a twin mum too and I had loads of hallucinations too! I also found that I'd fall asleep everywhere and anywhere (attached to a pump in the middle of the night, on the toilet, etc).

The best thing you can do is to have additional help for the things that matter less than your baby. I worked as a live in nanny and it really helped. I watched the baby some of the time, I did baby dishes and washed clothes and walked the baby in her stroller to to art class. The baby loved art class and the fresh air. You don’t need a live in nanny, but some one to do dishes, clean the bathrooms, and wash laundry helps. Congratulations on your new baby.

It gets better! I promise! The first year is rough. But my kids have turned me into a morning person and more productive. I get a lot more done in the little amount of time I have now.

I’m a mom of four! For us the first year is the hardest- with good sleep routines all four of my kids sleep in their beds all night. Sending hugs as u navigate the hardest part!

Frankie is adorable. My youngest is now 6 and I still remember the sleepless nights with a strong dose of cringe. It is brutal. Sounds like the family is getting into a rhythm which is great.

Thank you for this video. I have a 4yo, 3yo, and a 1 turning 2 in about 2mos (3 under 3) who all wake up multiple times through each night, each at different times. Thanks also to Nat who reminded me to embrace the chaos. Chaos has been eating me alive most days 😂

I was so nervous to watch this. I ended up taking off my fitness tracker when my first baby was an infant because I was stressed out by the horrible sleep graphs! Now I’m 4 months pregnant with number 2 and I am freaking anxious about the upcoming struggle.

The good news is it gets better! My son is almost 1. The first weeks and months was definitely the hard time. Structure, consistency and a good schedule is your best friend.

hello, did you get a sleep regression at around 12 months? I hope not but I did and kind of made me feel disheartened as things were going so much better with my baby. He is 14 months now and sleep is a lot worse

My son woke up very 45 minutes every night for the first year of his life, and then 4-6 times for the next years. 😵‍💫 My best advice: If you are two parents, sometimes have one parent take the whole night and the other one sleeping in a separate room. And you switch. That way you both can get a full nights sleep now and then. If you are a single parent, then have someone else take the baby for a night now and then if at all possible. Of course this works best once you are done breatfeeding, or if you aren't breatfeeding. But even then, the breastfeeding parent can sleep in a separate room, and the non-breastfeeding parent can bring the baby only for feedings, not for all wakings.

It's funny to watch your dad content because it makes me feel like you're living with me :') I'm experiencing the exact same things at about the exact same time since I gave birth 4 months and 2 days ago! We've been having an extremely hard time with sleep since day 1. Same as you, for the first month, my son would not nap at all and when he finally started to, he had to be in our arms. We still need to carry him around for naps even though here and there he is okay sleeping in his bed. As for night time, I've had to wake up every 2 hours to breastfeed almost every night since he turned one month old. One thing we've recently decided to do to help with night time is to give him a bottle of formula before going to bed and it actually works ! From waking up every 2 hours to feed, he now only wakes up once. Life changing ! I know it can be hard for mums who breastfeed to accept formula and let go a little bit but if you can't find any other solution and Nat is ready to give it a go, I strongly recommend :)

Don’t feel guilty about sleeping away from your partner or baby, if it means getting decent quality sleep. This felt alien to me in the beginning. If sleep training does not work for you cause every baby is truly different, for your wife specially to get any sleep, don’t be afraid to explore co sleeping and safe co sleeping practices. For some families it is the only way to survive. I’m here for all the parenting content. The brutal honestly is refreshing. Congrats on the baby 🎉
