I Restored This $5 Junk Nintendo Wii - Console Restoration & Repair

I bought this Nintendo Wii as part of a bigger lot 10 Wii's for $50 to restore and repair them. It's however not working. It turns on but nothing shows up on the screen and the disc drive makes a horrible noise.
First I disassembled the console. I found the Wii had taken some sort of a hit and the leg of the disc drive had broken. I also found the WiFi module had become loose and was causing the issue with no signal. Wii need both WiFi and Bluetooth module connected to start properly. After connecting the module I was able to test the console properly. The port for the sensor bar had some dirt that blocked good connection causing the sensor bar not to work. I cleaned the port to fix that. To fix the noise of the disc drive I had to bent some of the metal parts on the drive. When the console gets old the parts tend to bend due to use and they start to get make such noises due to vibrations from the disc spinning.
Some of the plastic parts of the console were a bit yellowed. I removed the yellowing with a method called retrobrighting. Here's my tutorial for that: • How to remove yellowin...
And tutorial to build the box: • Making the Ultimate Re...

It's funny how, despite how filthy and beat up it was, there was actually very little wrong with it. Just a thorough cleaning and a few tweaks and it's as good as new. Amazing! (And yes, I feel very old knowing the Wii's age.)

Restores a badly worn Wii, chooses an OG Wii game, AND gives us gameplay?!

I think one of the most interesting things is learning how the sensors worked. I always thought it was the reverse, with the light coming from the remote. That's so cool!

It always fascinates me as you open the consoles to think that these are screws and parts etc that haven’t seen the light of day or touched by anyone in over a decade. It’s almost like a time capsule

I have deep appreciation for people who can perform repairs on these classics. It's nice to see them have a second wind instead of being thrown out. Limited number of these nowadays.

Someone tell DKOldies that this is how refurbishing a console is done properly

Also I like that you reused the old worn rubber bits, it's like leaving a little reminder that this machine has been through a lot of appreciation even if it looks and works like it's brand new, it adds character

It's mind-blowing to see you restore a console that another person might see as e-waste.

This channel actually helped me to clean my old PC. Just spending time watching the detail and noting the supplies used made it a lot easier to thoroughly get all the dust, residue, and any gunk off the components and actually helped me to isolate a faulty component for replacement. It’s amazing how much a soft bristle toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol can clean.

The Wii was such an underrated console. They were way to ahead of their time. the generation wasnt ready for it.

Just yesterday I was thinking “wonder when Odd will get his masterful hands on a Wii?” And look where we are!

Videos like these are the things giving me hope that my currently not functional wiis will one day have new life again. They're not too badly broken, but it could be a while before I can have em fixed up. But I have faith. We took real good care of our consoles overall. But these videos are so fascinating. Plus just soothing. I can't look away honestly.

Aaah, the Nintendo Wii, I love that console, I have one myself, it's extremely old by now but it still works like a charm, the trooper sounds like a jet engine preparing for take off but other than that it still works without a hitch even after all these years, what a baller of a system.

I love your console restoration videos. I reference and save your videos constantly and use them as a sort of study material and follow along guide before and during any projects I'm curious about trying.
