It is not about stopping your thinking, but being able to do so if we choose to, can be very useful. Just as the body needs sleep, the mind also needs rest.

Ive had some crazy ass experiences meditating, ive hallucinated with my eyes open, ive talked to entities, Ive left my body, I killed somebody, Ive made love, even faced certain fears that I knew were there, from what ive learned we can rewire ourselves by just sitting and thinking you just have to find the right things to think about and really try to keep calm, my father abandoned me when I was young and whenever I think of him I get very angry and i didnt realise it was messing with me my whole life only until I started to meditate.

Sissa Bee cold showers aren’t bad in the slightest, you get used to them fairly quickly and it has to do more with mindset and embracing it then anything, once your mind adjusts, so does your body, quitting sugar would simply be monotonous because you have to be aware of everything you consume, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but just eat moderately healthy, and drink more water then usual, waking up at 5am every morning would eviscerate my soul, being sleep deprived doesn’t = productivity, my favorite part of your comment is it’s a throw back to Matt’s previous vids👌🏻

Fellow Templar Never once heard this, so did some research, the answer isn’t simple, their are many conflicting views, I believe we are supposed to sleep when the sun goes down, and wake, when it rises ☀️ without an ⏰ our body is entirely capable of waking up at the same time every day without an alarm it just takes practice. Lack of sleep greatly compromises our health and immensely lowers our productivity so getting those Zzz’s is absolutely vital, I am a total health nerd, because I genuinely care about my body, so I make it a priority to get 8 1/2’s of sleep every night, if you could link exactly where you discovered going 7-8 hrs of sleep before 5am is optimal, I would greatly appreciate it👌🏻

unknown unknown right after yoga I would hit savasana and just listen to my breathing. Thoughts would roll but that was the best part i.e. hitting savasana. Within a week listening to my breath and bringing my focus back after my thoughts rolled . I would journal down those thoughts . Within a month I became a calmer person and everyone would ask how did I change ? It was for the better !! Trust me any form of meditation like cooking grooming doing ur work with utter concentration and without any thoughts is sheer joyful ness of meditation. Namaste

" No thoughts , stop thinking " That's not meditation unfortunately. It's the common idea that meditation is to stop thinking , stop all thoughts . But it's not meditation. Meditation is simply about keeping your awareness on any one thing. And *allowing your thoughts to flow* and not to block the thoughts. Just be aware you are getting thoughts . Be aware of how you feel , Be aware of the breath Be aware of how your body is reacting . I hope this helps people who are "meditating" the wrong way .

LVS I think it’s quite beneficial, and relieves the pressure of the situation. Many times people give up on meditation because they get so frustrated with not being able to clear their mind completely. It can be a snowball effect. They think they have failed. It’s beneficial to be told that their perceived failure isn’t failure at all.

I often fall asleep A LOT when I meditate. I was very frustrated with it because I thought I did all that for nothing, the guided meditations I'm so fond of. I pressed on anyway though & I found that I was going into a state of mind where I wasn't really asleep. It was weird because, especially with the healing meditations, I found that I, undoubtedly, was getting healed! Somehow I'm certain I was never dreaming in these instances. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It's like a whole new world has opened up to me & it's something I want for everyone to experience. 💛🌈🌐 Wishing blessings for you all! 💙

I started meditating exactly like this - 60 mins a day, I never stopped. I do it everyday. It’s like I’m listening and watching as my brain dumps everything and expels junk thoughts. The key is not to get involved with the memories or materials - the point is to let them go because the only thing you have is now. It has literally transformed me from a pessimistic adult child to a normal adult child with loads of imagination. I like this reality better.

It's the same reason as with having a healthier lifestyle in general. Whether it's journaling, going to the gym, walking everyday, cleaning up your diet, learning that new skill you've been dying for ever.. We overweight current benefits while under weighting the long term consequences. When we finally lose that 10 pounds, we think, what is it that I've done in the last week that got me there. Meanwhile, it's what you've been doing in the last 3-6 months that got you there. It took me a couple of tries to get used to meditation. Now I can say I've been doing it regularly, meaning 4 to 6 times a week, for 12mins every time. Made huge changes in my life. Allowed me to realize when I am into a stressful situation and deal with them in much more calm ways.

Meditating 15-20 min a day is just enough. Start by doing 5 min after you wake up and 5 min before going to bed. These are the most important times of your day because it will set your mood for the rest of the day. The key is not to stop thinking at all. Just observe your thoughts and emotions. Allow them to be there and listen to them. After that, when you breathe out to end your meditation, let everything go and the Universe will work its magic ;)

A helpful way to meditate for beginners is to imagine your mind like a stream of water and your thoughts like random pieces of debris. When you come across it don't pay attention just let yourself acknowledge it and just flow right past it. It also helps to focus on your breathing in any way you want. Breathe in for 4 seconds through your nose, hold it for 7 and blow out for 8 with your mouth. As you are doing this you can imagine yourself almost like a Firebender from or any other way that helps. Imagine yourself charging up some sort of energy as you are breathing in and hold it and expel it out when you blow out for me I use fire but it can be anything you want

@@mattdavella what you have to do is to just get focused on something.Focusing on your breath usually isnt enough. As you breath try and focus to feel the air leaving your nostrils.Just the suble touch the air gives on your nose each breath. It helps,it just makes you stop thinking. One thing you can also do is focusing on the black from the back of your eyes.It s actually harder than it seems to get the nothingness into your focus. On you get deeper and more focused slightly move your eyes down ,do reps of that.It will make you get deeper and focused ,you may start to see colors moving. That s what i found that helps from my own experience. It rlly helps,i meditate before sleep ,it makes me sleep much better

Also I got really bored after a few mins. Now I tried guided meditation (lasts only 9 mins) to help me out, and it felt great! Maybe eventually I'll work my way up to a half hr, but you half to start slow!

I had the same difficulties as you when I first started meditating. Something that I found helped me a lot was to not set a timer for my meditation sessions. Everyone is completely obssesed with keeping time while meditating. By removing a timer I just gave myself as much time as I needed to clear my head and get as much as possible out of every session. I would stop either when my feet started hurting or when I felt ready. It's also going to stop you getting to day 5 of meditating and feeling like it's not doing anything for you or that you're not getting anywhere. Every person is different, and every mind is different. You can't say that 20 minutes is enough, or that 30 minutes is enough, or that two 30 minute sessions is enough, or that 2 hours is enough, you just have to let everybody get there in their own time. If anybody out there is new at meditating and you're having a hard time, try 1 or 2 sessions my way, without a timer, and focusing on clearing your mind and hearing your inner voice (your thoughts). I promise you it will work and you will see the difference that meditation can make when you're not focused on time but on the actual session itself.

A year ago I went on a retreat and mediated for 8 hours with a 5 minute break every half hour and a half hour silent mindful lunch. It was incredible. After the fourth hour it became easier and easier to clear my mind. It was like hitting a reset button in my brain, and all of the background noise faded away. I was fully present in the moment for the next four hours, and afterwards I was so relaxed I had to almost snap out of it before I could drive myself home.

But, what I REALLY wanted to say is that I have been using your encouragement to do some 30 challenges of my own. I have to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this! While doing these 30 days challenges, I have both created, and quit, some habits! I am again drinking the water my body needs, AND I have given up soda and fast food! I’m losing weight without focusing on it! My next 30 days will be a daily walking challenge. After that, my plan is for meditation. You are revamping my life and we’ve never met! How cool is that?? Thanks for doing this channel! I was already a minimalist before finding your channel, but you have been a great source of support! Also, you two are adorable! 😊

Hi, I have just started meditation as I suffer from bouts if anxiety at times.. I really get scared while meditating, it's like I feel what if I will die? Or something will happen if I go in deep sleep? Is it normal as beginner? I really want to stick to it, as I have read and heard its best medicine and heals you completely from anxiety and depression.. So kindly guide

I was really into meditation a few years back when i lived in an old studio apartment in philadelphia. One of my clearest memories of that apartment is the off/on sound of the AC wall unit. Something you normally never become aware of is a major trigger for nostalgia. Meditation is fantastic, but it's like lifting weights or eating healthy. If it isn't done with discipline through time, it doesn't have much value.

Set the chronometer, 5 min every day, and add 5 min every week. It helped me a lot when I started to get into this practice. Campus' parking lot was the most quiet place available for me. Although the benefits were many, the first signals might be rather subtle and hard to point out. I was attending college when I started meditating and the first thing I noticed was that I wasn't so worried anymore, about classes, grades, timelines. I actually started to enjoy my college experience a little better.

Hi Matt, and hi everyone. I have a personal unbroken, twice-daily, meditation practice since 2002. The benefits that have flowed into my life have been tremendous!!! I highly recommend finding a meditation that resonates with you and "sitting with it" for long enough to see the change that it will bring into your life. At first, you might not notice, maybe your friends will ask "hey, you're different, what have you been doing?" eventually it will become apparent that there has been a huge change. You will become a more grounded, peaceful and dynamic person for sure - IT WILL HAPPEN - just stick with it. And remember, a journey of a million miles begins with a single step. Best of luck to you all!!!!
