I'm going 5x a week in the gym for 2 years. It's so amazing the way you feel! My biggest advice is: do not give yourself the option of not going to the GYM. When your mind knows that no matter what happens, if it's rainy, if its to cold, if I'm not motivated. IT DOESN'T MATTER. You'll go train anyway, regardless of how you feel.

The key is moderation so you don’t burn out. If you want to make a habit of drinking more water and eventually drinking water exclusively water then you can’t just chug a gallon of water on day one. You start with a glass of water. Then a few days later. You add a second glass. A few days later another. It takes 66 days to really instill a habit. After a month or two of this process you will be on your way to develop a fully blown habit

Otoh, you actually can lose about 4 kilos in a month. Which is about 1 notch on a typical belt. And if you're just starting out for the first time (so you get the beginner's bonus of losing some extra weight from water) it's about 1 dress size. But yeah, you're not going to go from morbidly obese to size zero in a month as many people promise.

I've recently just read about the compound effect and it completely shaped the way I perceive life. Instead of looking to a habit, experience or skill as an isolated thing, I can see now how those small things can have a tremendous (and sometimes even unpredictable) effect in our lives.
This video made me smile, On March 26th 2020 i am determine instead of rotting away in my home during quarantine, i decided to tell myself to fit in a workout every single day, no matter be it cardio or strength, i’ve got to admit that at the start was very shaky cause i was not use to working out at all, but as time went on and a month later i’ve got the hang of it, recently 2 months ago i went through a heartbreak and instead of using that negativity to just give it all up, i’ve decided to just use that negative energy to push my workouts even harder. Now October 12th, honestly i’m glad that i’m pushed it through and i will be continuing this routine.

This is great! I was similar as I wanted drastic change in my life but end up stopping/ giving up. I read the 5am club, and the concept of a "core habit" or "gateway habit" really stuck to me, these are habits that when you do them, the other habits are easier to follow through. Matt's is exercise, and mine is getting up at 5am, everyone will have one that sticks and builds confidence and trust in yourself. When you trust yourself, it is more feasible to create lasting changes.

"Patience and persistence is key". Something we are lacking more and more in a World obsessed with and built around "NOW". Want that thing off Amazon? Same day delivery. Pizza? 30 minutes delivered to your door. We're dumb enough to ditch dates because the "spark" wasn't there in the first 10 seconds and it's easier to just start browsing dating apps while leaving the restaurant and your date behind you. We quit jobs after a year because of a lack of sense of accomplishment or progress. Christ, it's a year. A year is nothing and a career takes YEARS. Love takes TIME to get and you're ditching the potential love of your life because it wasnt an instant enough connection for you. We need to slow down, ditch social media, and get back to basics of what life really is. Not how we see it in movies or ads or fake social media posts.

I agree to a certain point, however, I find myself struggling a lot with my current job. It's my first job, and yes, I feel like I'm getting quite good at my job, but since I'm working a lot of overtime hours and just don't seem to be able to adapt to them, I'm questioning whether I wanna continue doing overtime hours. It's been almost a year, and I feel like instead of my body adapting to the long days, it just starts to give up, and every day I feel like I'm more tired than the day before. I am going to sleep more and more at 9.30-10pm and wake up at 6 because of that. Simply because I don't have any energy left and need to survive the next day.
@farukarslan3583
3 жыл бұрын
@@fabianvanderelst9643 this sounds similar. You have a life that you spent on certain things. Work is one of them. Overworking is a good thing to show yourself to the company, getting more things done quickly. But I think it's not a sustainable habit. If you really passionate about your job, you love what you do and time pass without realizing, keep that momentum. But at certain point you get overwhelmed, you got less energy day by day. If it's not necessary/urgent stop overworking for a while without effecting your job in a bad point. Prioritize efficiency over time. I also struggle with that sometimes. Just my two cents.

habit: * changes matt's life * matt: it's free video estate
I tried so many things and ways to improve myself but nothing worked. It will work for a while and then back to normal. Then i started to think what is my biggest weakness. The answer is my sleep cycle. I always failed to sleep and wake up at the same time or sleeping same amount of hours daily. I tried to improved it and let go the other habits on which i was trying to improve. I changed the alarm tone to some affirmations to train my subconscious mind. Which helped me a lot in waking up early and at the same time i.e. 7 a.m.( as waking up at 5 is too unrealistic to me). A month after that i started seeing changes in myself. 1] my morning become more productive. 2] i have too much time as i wake up early. 3] i started eating right food and drinking lots of water without even trying. 4] i feel more refreshed every morning. 5] it reduces my screen time as i know it will affect my sleep. 6] adapt some good habits as i have to do something after waking this early. 7] increase confidence because of the affirmations of the alarm. 8] self acceptance.❤️
It’s really great to see a video from Matt D’Avella which you can totally relate to it. I had exactly the same feeling during the pandemic about start doing things by just start doing, everyday, not expecting any big outcome but knowing it fulfills yourself. The part of the video which totally happened the same to me was when you start doing something and you get problems to solve, which leads you to do other things, which brings you other problems to solve, then other things to do, etc - like the example that you start going to gym, then you got improvements in your body, then you start eating healthy, etc. Really love your videos and hope you keep doing it Matt! Cheers!
Matt you have inspired me for a long time! I feel like I am at the start of when you first got the ball rolling. I have been to the gym for almost 50 days in a row, and I'm working on better habits. I'm completely over working my day job and I'm looking for more. I've been reading some self development books, and I just wanted to say that seeing that you didn't always have it figured out really helped my mindset. I'm struggling to get over my "what if" fear, and I just need to get my feet wet in the process of failure. I just wanted to thank you for these videos!
One thing I'd like to add from experience as a bit of a perfectionist myself. Building habits can be hard. But Matt is right, they can totally change your life and if you start small (look into The Ladder Effect) you can do it. But remember this. Just because you had a bad day doesn't mean anything. Don't let it derail your progress. Don't get too down on yourself or start hating yourself for sleeping too late one morning or being too tired to go to the gym. Remember that one stumble isn't a failure. It's just a stumble. We all stumble sometimes, we all miss a day or two. The important thing is to love yourself and understand that one or two missed days don't mean much in the grand scheme of things. No one is perfect. So brush yourself off and make sure to get back to it the next day. The only person in the world you're in competition with is yourself.
I literally just said out loud alone in my living room “I’m so thankful for this video” 🙏🏽

Small habit goes a long way. To those who are still in it pursuing your dreams out there, don’t let the surroundings distract/discourage you. Keep going.
I remember how amazing of a read Charles Duhigg's The Power of Habit was, but seeing you bring a lot of the principles into context here is beyond inspirational! Great content as always Matt!

The Power of Habit was such a good read for me too! We are actually editing a video that will go up on our KZread channel soon about it!! What bad habits did you work to replace?
Sometimes I think you live in my mind 😩 I was just talking to my mother the other day about how working out as a habit has truly changed soo much in my life over the past 6 years. Just that one habit.

THIS WAS POSTED AT THE PERFECT TIME!! Today has been rough. I came to a hard realization that my unhealthy eating habits were an ED. I didn't know how to tell my mom I've been struggling. And i didnt want to tell her in person, so i wrote an entire essay to send to her. Spending two hours explaining my lethal mindset, i came to a realization. My thoughts were absurd. I didnt need help, God just needed me to take that first step i wanted to avoid for six months. Literally i feel so much better. :) thank you! Journaling is going to the habit that changed my life.
Perfect timing to watch this video, Matt. I was here struggling if I renovate or not my gym program, lack of motivation, and so on. Now, time to renew it and go for it! Thank you for inspiring me 🙌🏻🙋🏻♀️
Bro I love how you don’t take everything super seriously, the gaming and the drinking jokes add more realistic interest into your channel I fw that g
This is all very true it’s all about patience and learning from mistakes
Hi There Matt!. I really appreciate your work, you've really inspired me
I love your storytelling! This is exactly what I needed at the moment. 👌🏻 thank you.
You have inspired me. Recently I’ve been in a dark place after my 5 year relationship ended. I plan on losing weight and becoming more healthy. Also I recently started a minimalistic lifestyle as well but still need to make better diet habits. You are an inspiration and I thank you for your positive videos that helped me get out of a dark place. Thanks Matt!
Matt you have helped me a lot. I remember a year ago watching you and PickUpLimes with a very balanced, peaceful and healthy way of living that I wanted the same and since then with a lot of effort my life has turned into that direction. I know your lives are not perfect but you gave the motivation to strive for a better way of living.
I personally want to thank you for this video. I've lost my father for cancer 7 months ago and I'm 18 and since that moment I've realized and wanted to take control of my life and started my process to became the man I want to be even without his advices. This week particularly was a difficult one in respecting my habits & my diet...but after your video I'm feeling more motivated to do what I have to in order to became who I want to be. Really man, thank you.

Wild at heart by John Eldridge. A book every man should read. It's written by a man and it's for men. I promise you that you'll have many "A-ha" moments reading this book. Every young man intuitivly knows what it is to be a man, but without proper guidance, especially in today's world, it can be hard to "connect the dots". Read this book. A lot of the thoughts and feelings you have will start to make sense. Side note: it is at times a religious book. If religion isn't your thing that's ok, just when the author speaks of God basically replace that concept with "the universe" or whatever higher form of consiousness you subscribe to. And if you subscribe to none well then just skip those parts lol.
It's hard to picture Matt being insecure. Great message - it's all about persistence and mindset that everything is "figureoutable"
I really appreciate the encouragement to JUST KEEP GOING! Thank you
0:20 I feel attacked and I’m not even 30 yet 😂
I have so much respect for you Matt. Thank you for your content. You're an amazing guy.
Love you man, you’ve help me grow more than youll ever know. Thank you!
I have never been happier since adding more positive habits to my daily routine. Always love the content and ideas you share with us matt.
Something that helped me with the gym is enjoying the gains, but not directly addressing, recognizing, or talking about how consistent I've been. (Keep track on a calendar or notebook) But, if I say out loud to myself, 'wow we haven't missed a day in 4 months.' Then I might subconsciously *reward* myself by missing my next workout day. Then another, then the habit is broken and it's harder to start up again.
Love the video and the message you repeatedly push about real progress taking time! You've inspired us to start our KZread channel last month, we are well aware that it's going to take a long time to grow but every time we watch one of your videos we are more motivated to keep consistently pushing forward! thanks for that 💛
Always motivating 💜 Thank you so much for all your work!
I skipped my walk this morning and was near talking myself out of doing one in the evening so boy did this come at the right time.
So my ex girlfriend introduced me to your channel cuz she thought you were hot but I gotta say thats the one good thing she did cuz now I'm changing my life thanks to you

You are always my spiritual mentor. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and experience!
Thank you for inspiring us with your content! This made me finally sign up for my dance classes - something I've been putting off for almost a month now due to various excuses (mainly knee problems and Covid, none of which should really hinder the activity in question at the moment).
