I HID in a FOREST DUGOUT from EXTREME FROST -25,6 F/ -32 С to SURVIVE. Bushcraft
#shelter #snow #frost
Crazy frosts have come to my region of residence. Daily the temperature drops below -25.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Today I'm going to my dugout to see if it can withstand the extreme temperature of -29.2 degrees Fahrenheit. After all, such a fierce frost is promised tonight, it seems to me that my house underground will be able to warm me and I will stay alive. Will I be able to overcome the elements or not?

NEW VIDEO kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYaLz9Odnpi6qsY.html Hi! It was an extreme trip to my dugout. During the day, the temperature is -25 degrees Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit), and at night it was promised to cool down to -34 degrees (-29.2 Fahrenheit)! I didn't know if my forest dugout could cope with such a frost, so I was afraid to freeze. But my wood-burning stove showed its best side! It was warm and cozy!

These wilderness creators are a different breed. Set up the camera, film myself walking 50 yards through deep snow, go back 50 yards to grab the camera, return the 50 yards to where I was, start process all over. All while it’s minus 20 degrees. 😮 That commitment to your content.

True. Canadian here. At different temperatures it makes different noises. At -10 C, it crunches. At -20C, it squeaks. Any colder it squeaks at a sharper tone.
There is no needs for words Alex, you show the world what a hard working wonderful soul you are, in these times of so much hardship for people you give us what we all crave freedom in nature even if its only for a short time, thankyou for taking me away for a while, god bless from the UK. x

If that was a carbon monoxide detector you put up, I would advise you to mount it lower, closer to where your head will be when sleeping. This is because CO sinks; it will fill up the bottom of the dugout first. Realistically, the only time CO will collect is if the draft of your stove ceases.
@sparkymark68

The co2 detector is so close to his bed, your suggestion would make no difference whatsoever in a compartment of that size.
@nickziemer8123

I was thinking the same thing. Id probably put the co detector lower too but, you know what? Alex obviously slept fine overnight which seems to be his ventilation was more than sufficient. As long as his ventilation is cleared, he’s all set.

CO is about as heavy as air. It's not heavy CO2! In normal rooms, slightly higher than the door!
@lashark06

Solid advice!
@urbancraft2372
Жыл бұрын
CO is actually lighter than air and usually disperses throughout the room. The reason why many are installed lower is because they needed to be plugged in due to higher power draw than a smoke detector on the first few generations. No harm or foul here.
Hey Alex, it's dangerous to spray a flammable paint indoors. The fumes are toxic and you have an open flame. No good. I'm a Hazardous Materials specialist and I've dealt with these situations all the time. Spray outside in well ventilated area and I know it's cold. Spray when it's warmer. Thomas Dutkiewicz

Did this in the woods behind my house with a few friends in my hood. This is so cool. Pardon the pun. We were all happy campers. P-nut butter sandwich, a candy bar of some kind, a 20 cent soda. Yes 20 cents. 1955-56
I don't know why, but places like this dugout, or the tree house, vans converted into tiny homes on wheels, trucks with converted beds where people camp out in and other similar shelters have always seemed so cozy and comfortable to me. I would love to have one of those

But hadn’t he already put the fire out? After all,he had already capped the stovepipe in preparation for leaving. He waited until he was getting ready to leave to paint the stovepipe, so the fire or the fumes should not be an issue.

I love the size of your cabin. Just enough room for a person to temporarily live and survive. Not much more than 8x8 foot square is clever too heat up and maintain. You won't have time to be bored cutting firewood, cooking, cleaning and staying alive.
Nice and modern looking carpet at the wall. Maybe you should have another room too here ? Definitely going into earth about 1 Meter was an good decision to keep your home warm.

We (UK) switched to Celsius a long while ago but old people like me can convert it quite quickly. Same when we decimalised our currency. In the beginning, myself and all other children had to convert the ‘old’ money for ‘new’ money to most adults! May I ask why the US still uses Fahrenheit?

Brrrrrrrrrr! Way to survive, Alex! Great video. I'm still amazed at all the camera angles you get, even in the bitter cold. 👍
Great video. Just an important tip. Your Co2 alarm is too high. CO2 is heavier than oxygen. When your alarm goes on, you're already in the middle of the CO2. The Co2 Warner should be installed at least a little lower than your bed, so that in an emergency you have a chance of waking up in time and surviving.
11:00 the patter and color of the "new wall" is incredible, nice work!

I'm Australian and the lowest temperature I have endured was -5C. Whilst living in Canada in 1999. I was driving in rural North of Ontario and got caught in a blizzard of -35 to -45C. Lucky as an outdoors man. I carried extra gear and survived 3 days trapped under 8ft of snow. Got severe frost bite but all was well

Of course you want that chimney to blend in and keep your zemľanka hidden. When you retreat to it to "disappear" from civilization. There might be absolutely reasonable and legal reasons to hide (I would certainly hide in such circumstances). Just make sure to bring enough canned food to survive for a couple of weeks, possibly months. And water, if there are no near sources of drinking water when there is no snow around. 😀

The dugout is getting cozier with every video. Great work! ❤
a co2 sensor is a good idea ... but mount it about bed level CO2 is heavier than oxygen and so settles to the floor ... with the sensor abut bed level it will chime before your head is below the CO2 layer waking you in time to fix the problem ... another good thing to have in the cabin is a pelltier fan ... it runs off the heat of the stove and moves the air around in the cabin .... have it pointed towards the floor and it will keep the air stirred and moving the co2 out the stove inlet ... as the stove draws the cool floor air into it and sends it heated up and out the flue ... also the fans draft will keep the moisture down more because ti will promote evaporation and even sublimation (near the stove anyway)

Deux bons conseils que vous donnez là: mettre le détecteur de CO2 le plus bas possible car ce gaz mortel est plus lourd que l’air, et mettre un ventilateur Peltier qui fonctionne sans autre énergie que la chaleur ;-)

Hey Alex, nice job on the video as usual :) I was wondering if you ever thought about about maybe bringing some plastic tubs with you(ones similar to what one would use to maybe store clothes in or something) and let them collect snow when it snows so when it eventually melts, you'll have a little bit of a water supply? You can get super large plastic storage bags with zip lock tops and handles, that are much lighter to carry and the thin sides would let the snow melt faster
