Thanks everyone for coming along and building Crrowd with us. If you have any concrete idea for what we could do with Crrowd, let me know. I'm open to selling the whole company, or just the database to a business who could make good use of it, or open sourcing the data to the right project if there is a good one (minus personal data, of course).

I think the idea of crowd was amazing, one place where you could find all the review you could want (maybe even for non-tech stuff). Because reviews are too spread out to get a meaningful idea of the product. Where I believe you went wrong is to do only vetted people. I think it would have worked better if it was open to everyone. But you probably already know that. I would love it if you could find a company that has a big enough reach so that it can get to that 1.000.000+ users for it to be sustainable and it would be awesome if it went mainstream!

Shutting down Crrowd is not “bad” news. I care more about your health and your ability to use your good health to make quality content more than I care about you working on so many projects to the detriment of your health. I’m sure the rest of the community will agree. The best content creators enjoy the work they do. You can’t do that if it involves you sacrificing your health. This channel wouldn’t be what it is without YOU! We need you to be in good health. That’s what matters most. Love your work and will continue supporting you ✊🏿

Sad to see you had to leave behind Crrowd, it wasn't really something I was personally interested in but it seemed like a cool project. I know Linus at LTT is looking into getting into reviews of products with the Lab, he might be interested in the database if not the whole app. Otherwise, there is always open sourcing everything, much better than just getting data and code lost.

  • @armadillito

I always wondered whether the LTT forum community might provide some of the scale and enthusiasm needed to make Crrowd viable. Adding labs-validated data on a product would be a strong USP. Whatever its future, Crrowd could do with an API to allow its content on a particular product to be displayed elsewhere.

Even non-profit organisations make money from donations.

Abandonware would be a fitting theme for an upcoming video. I hope you can open source the Crowd apps and services if that isn't a licensing issue. As for the database it would be worth posting to r/DataHoarder to let someone pick it up or even run a fork of the service.

I think TechAltar deserved my subscription because of the calm and crisp explanation of tech-related news. No fancy animation robots, no dropping things, no cursing and a global view of the tech space rather than being confined to the US. With that in mind, I worry that the channel would pursue theatrics to garner more views. After all, those criteria are how we define "better" videos nowadays. At the end of the day, the channel ranks much lower in priority to anyone's health and well-being. I hope you strike the perfect balance between work and play to live a happy and healthy life. First things first. I’ve been subbed for god knows how many with a few KZread accounts, great work as always! I never used crowd, but maybe an idea to keep it going is treat like Wikipedia or rtings or even lustre. They’re free, some are more reliable than people give them credit for. That carefully selected crowd you already have, let them be the only reviewers on the app. I never write reviews, but god knows when I want to buy something I read and watch reviews everywhere, the more different insights into something, usually gives the buyer a better idea. So maybe by making expanding the audience and then dishing out ads to a greater audience with only people that pass through the review process can actually contribute, could help keeping your passion project alive? Edit: the quizzes are a fun idea, but as you said, just takes a lot of time. Keep the review and upcoming database side. Whatever you choose, we’ll support you!

I saw your video half way and I could feel your sadness in your voice! I’m sorry that you have to shut crowd down, I’ve been in a similar position before, I know how hard it is :(

While its sad to hear about crrowd shutting down, I wish you all the best for your future ideas and projects! You really put a lot of effort in and got amazing results PLUS you learned a lot, so I think it's still a huge net positive, even if crrowd is no more. :) Also, its a huge W to see you taking care of yourself and listening to your gut about what's healthy for you and what isn't! Can't stress it enough! I'm very excited for the future!

It sounds to me like you grew IMMENSELY from your experience running Crrowd. I unfortunately was never able to participate as I don't own a current Android device but it sounded so fun and I was so envious of those who could join in! It's a valuable experience and sometimes failure leads us to greater things! Don't beat yourself up, it was a good project and you can now say you built an app on your CV! Do you have any idea how incredibly hard that is? Only 1% of earth's population is even in this sphere in a building/coding/managing capacity. That's a big deal, man. Give yourself more credit

i'm somewhat curious if open sourcing is beneficial if at all feasible for the crrowd app, but i also know that is that not a simple task. looking forward to techaltar 3.0

Hey, sorry to hear about your difficult decisions but sounds like a good path and I'm happy for you. When you previously asked if people would like to see you build your new PC, I was one of the many who replied 'yes' - but I have been very busy over the past few months and haven't see the PC Build Livestream. I've searched here and Nebula but can't find it. Can you point me in the right direction? Good luck with 3.0 ;o)
