Don't run that to long without putting muffs on it and get water flowing in the motor! You will find things to address also, like leaks, in the block or manifolds, make sure oil pressure is there also. Be careful and make sure your water pumps are working, believe me it's easy to overlook something and then it will add cost to your project. Water pump in the outdrive very important as well as raw water line from it to the block. Mine blew out on start up and I had rebuilt the pump only to have it burn up the pump do it excessive heat and it only took a few minutes to do that. I had to tear apart the outdrive again and install another pump. Extra $40.00 I could have spent on other parts.

I have to say you really got yourself a neat boat. The price was crazy! It's going to clean up good and you should be able to make money on it if you ever sell it.

Thanks for the advise. I actually was running it on muffs. The water wasn't pumping through the exhaust system, so I definitely need to look at the alpha one water pump. That's my next repair. I already have the part ordered.

Is that a 350 Merc motor? Looks like someone added Edlebrock valve covers and carb to it. I don't think they came that way.

So how's the project coming along on this boat?

Something that I just noticed about your motor. It doesn't have a thunderbolt ignition system. That is a newer motor. Mercruser motors in 1977 were thunderbolt. You have electronic with coil pack on top of distributor. You aware of this?

Good to know. I figured some work had been done on this boat, and I believe the boat was custom built, so I wasn't sure how much of the work was actually done in the 70s.
