Hey Potato, you can gamble with political party leaders by exiling the ones with Traditionalist traits or other bad traits every 5 years. It's mostly random who takes over but you can influence the chance. Generals, Agitators and your Ruler can be potential party leaders. Their odds of becoming the leader is influenced by their popularity. If you get lucky and get someone with Moderate or Reformist or Market Liberal you can reform insanely fast. Its one of the best strategies when playing Russia since your Heir starts as a Market Liberal. Brazil is a great country in Vicky3, especially when you're learning the game. You're a pretty big fish in a fairly small pond, so as long as you don't do anything monumentally stupid (like declaring war on one of the Great Powers), you can concentrate on industrializing and liberalizing without any significant security threats. Just figuring out how things work, and what buttons to press. Brazil even has oil and rubber (when discovered). The only thing missing is sulfur, which can easily be gained from either Peru or Argentina.

to add a bit of context on why you start on war against Grão-Pará as brazil. Grão Pará(which is the region i was born) was the last province to declare independence from portugal after the 1822 independence on rio de janeiro. after 1831, the first emperor pedro I abdicated the throne and pedro de bragança II (Pedro II from civ6) became emperor as an infant, since he had no means to govern the empire, a temporary replacement was build (the Regencias) made of 3 authorities that choosed governors on each region to take care of such a massive territory. Grão-Pará's people did not recognized those governors as legit rulers of the region and started the "cabanagem" revolt, the longest revolt brazil had in history, started at 1935. In the capital of today's Pará (the current name of the state), Belém, we have a big monument that represents the "cabanagem" revolt and is a symbol of resistance for us.

Hey @Potatomcwhiskey a bit of advice. You should try to get on iron frame buildings asap. It is way more efficient and puts more money in the investment pool. Build less sectors and put it on iron fram as soon as you have the option. You will grow much faster and enpower the industrialists quicker as well. Try to focus on states with iron and coal. Then vertically build in that state. Tools, mines and steel it will make construction cheaper and better.

To get Multiculturalism and the other laws you wanted, you should be taking the Agitators who support those laws (like the one you went and found) and using the Promote To Government option to make in the leader. This then takes the entire clout of the group for the support % of the law. So Multiculturalism would have gone from 8% to 25% base chance. Side note: Multiculturalism is the hardest reform to pass because even your intelligentsia oppose it at baseline, and no one supports it without a unique ideology. People do be kinda racist like that in the 1800s.

In Victoria 3, I think the best nation to play for good challenge but not 10 hours of waiting around is Chile. It has 1000 things to take care of, but Ive ended playthroughs with them where 70% of Central and South America is conquered as well as pacific islands. You have to deal with impassable terrain, factions of equal size all around you and a much bigger one behind them, you start with tragically bad infrastructure and urban sectors everywhere, and so many cultures causing discontent. Trade routes are almost non existent at the start and trying anything related to democracy will break your nation. Your starting army is a little better at the start than those around you but not by much or for long. If you want to win or do well, you must use every bit of your Authority and Bueracracy and learn to accept that 35-60% of your population might just be radicals, you must be the most aggressive player possible otherwise Argentina and Peru-Bolivia will become too strong to take on

Great vid, Spud! at 2:17:00 when you encounter an awkward forced peace with Argentina for a war you're clearly winning, have advantage in, etc is so annoying to me. So many mechanics in Vic 3 from day 1 to now seem half-baked or poorly implemented and the game just has an unfinished feeling to me. Optimization from 1.0 to 1.6 has been night and day, but that's actually not saying a lot still when 1.6 is still a struggle to not see your time compression / etc get waaaay slower by like 1900+ in the game. 1.5 and 1.6 were both big improvements but overall because of AI wonkery and lack of any kind of real economic imperialism / poor sim etc it feels better suited to a multiplayer game where several players can kind of negotiate their world, as the logic for AI is pretty inconsistent and sometimes pretty random (lol especially what great powers choose to get involved with or not). There are things im happy with like that they've added *better* conflict circa 1.5, but it's still broken / pathfinding wonkery right out the day 1 release, frontline logic can be inconsistent and whacky, etc. I think one of the titles better systems is how the game tracks colonization, namely that its an encroachment of territory occupied by what colonial powers would otherwise consider 'decentralized' and that it can generate tension and conflict. Tbh i feel like i get more out of narrative stories like Spuds play throughs etc than playing the game myself because I just find myself butting up against the games lacking areas or disappointed with how they implemented things.

You really ought to transition into iron-framed earlier if you're able to, even if it's a slow transition state to state rather than countrywide at once. It's more expensive per sector, but less expensive per point of construction produced, and stimulates your economy quite nicely.

Always enjoy your Victoria content and would love to see more
this is one of those games i like watching other people play, but every time i start a game i just go meh not in the mood ^.^
Oh my god you're finally playing this game, I love it
I like your Vic 3 content!
be in 2 wars " i'm not sure why my population is decreasing" ... welp :D
You still have a lot to learn when it comes to Vic 3.
You wouldn't be the first to rage quit the game over that Argentina situation. I have done it many times too XD
I would love to see a warring state of whatever country you pick. This is the first Vicky 3 video I've watched while I've been dragging my feet on buying it. I think I'll wait until Spheres of Influence, but your video did get me hyped.
oh hell yeah love this game, did a """unification""" of central america recently (mexico, the carribean and columbia) shame that areas mechanics are a bit janky but love how so many areas of the world are actually viable and potentially powerful

My last game I had the US take over all of North America and South America. Super fun game.
I'm a simple man: I see Brazil in the thumbnail, I click and give a thumbs up.
Sickkk pivot. This looks 👀 *exciting*
Glad to see potato Vic3 content!
Hey, Potato! "Cia." is an abbreviation for "Compañía" (in Spanish) or "Companhia" (in Portuguese). Means the same as Associates in a english company. Kablin Irmaos & Associates is the same as Kablin Irmaos & Cia. Also, it is pronounced like de "ci" of "cinema"
Really enjoyed this. Would love to see a playthrough in Great Qing or Joseon. :)
I am burned out not only on civ6 but videos on it. I am over 2k on victoria 3 and watch any lathe, ludi, or carpathian knight video on vic 3 they make. It is my fave strategy game so far. Plus with all the mods, it never gets stale. basilae romaion and divergences keep it spicy. No map feels as good to paint as this one.
typically you don't want to put consumption taxes on things like alchohal or tabaco because even though its more profitable it affects your lower strata pops affecting your standard of living more than taxing the middle or upperclasses because they can handle the hit.
Your OG Japan video convinced me to get Vicky 3 and dive into grand strategy games. My grades do not thank you.
great edit
This game is unfinished and buggy, but holy fuck its brilliant at sucking you in. Already my most played Paradox title.
Best Vicky 3 vids on KZread.
I am also hooked on this. Useless, but still hooked. My countries keep going to revolution so am obnviously getting something fundamentally wrong but I will get there. Keep up the great content please!
lol @ 31:50 - "We don't want Slaves in our nation, these are people who lack freedom, they can't buy their own goods!", Definitely the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about why Slavery is bad
Man this is an interesting play-through
play more of this game. I was surprised you didn't already
Potato's Irish accent became crazy the moment Brazil turned communist, I love it
In Victoria 3, I think the best nation to play for good challenge but not 10 hours of waiting around is Chile. If you want to win or do well, you must use every bit of your Authority and Bueracracy and learn to accept that 35-60% of your population might just be radicals, you must be the most aggressive player possible otherwise Argentina and Peru-Bolivia will become too strong to take on
I’d love more Vicky 3 content!
Potato made Brazil so prosperous and everybody in this universe come to Brasil
Go to Brazil!
See his plans, thinks it won't fit in his usually 45 min episodes, check time sees 3 hrssss, like why wasn't I told it was christmas
Fyi there is actually a button that lets you Reset Production Methods that was added to make dealing with the aftermath of Revolutions easier
I just realised that the Council Republic was declared on May 1.
You really ought to transition into iron-framed earlier if you're able to, even if it's a slow transition state to state rather than countrywide at once. It's more expensive per sector, but less expensive per point of construction produced, and stimulates your economy quite nicely.
I'm surprised you're not playing these new civ6 monthly challenges. They're tons of fun! Or did you, and I'm missing them somewhere?
This is awkwardly accurate compared to the rl and raises some important questions regarding ethical issues. Great video however. I was thinking also of getting this game, but I'm still busy with ck3 and bg3
You ignored military tech for the whole game, went to war with two major powers, and you were surprised they curb stomped you?
"Silk & rubber - the _nice_ clothing." Patate really puts the "bra" in Brazil. o/
Thanks paradox for paying all youtubers to play their game.
More Victoria please!!
Hey potato, was wondering if you could make a video on how you play this game
I mentioned this on another video, but I figured I'd ask it here on your most recent video. For the month of May, could you do some playing of Civ 5? At least a long form video on the 5th.
I have been so hard addicted to this game I wish I had people to play with
Potato plays vici3? INSTALIKE!
I thought Utopian Brazil was going to come to liberate Ireland.
wait, this isnt millennia episode 2
I really want to see you continue your old Iran playthrough in Victoria 3 :(((((
It's been 18 months but it seems like this game is in a decent state now!
What all DLC do you have in the game?
I am at 1:47:19 Did he change the construction type at some point?
This turned from Utopia to Stalinism on a dime.
