Back in 1.0 and 1.1 i pitched Persia to people as a great beginnner nation because they start with almost every resource they need, and lots of opportunities. Patches have made it harder because you can't trivially get out of tennant farming+slavery anymore, but it is still a really nice country to play once you get a hang of the game.

Tenant farmers is better than serfdom, and Britain sometimes will solve the slavery problem as long as you aggressively expand. They’ll either war to open market, or to end slavery if they get involved in one of your wars.

I know a lot of people don't love Victoria3, but I have over 1500 hours in game and love it. I honestly havent played civ since it came out, and civ was what made me sub to you. I am pumped you are playing this again beyond the japan campaign and now is the perfect time to capitalize. I get a client that calls me or a work related call, just tap pause. Before this, id pushed civ to 2800 hours before the release of Victoria. If I knew how to edit, id honestly make videos. Nice video, I usually struggle quite a bit in the early game with these less-developed countries and this has given me some good pointers on how I can improve my start. A minor thing that really bothered me right at the end was however, that you built a whole bunch of farms and ranches in Khuzestan where there were literally 19 dudes available to work them. Might be a little too early for that heavy mechanisation. :D

Absolutely nothing wrong with over building, it allows a TON of immigration from "unfilled jobs" so as long as you have a decent pop to feed off of i.e. multiculturalism/culture exclusion + mig control or no mig control and boom, you now have the highest migration state in your market simply from unoccupied jobs.

I almost exclusively play Portugal when I dip into Viccy3. Would be cool to see what you would do with it. I like the focus on colonizing, conquering the gold producing states in South Africa and then making vassals in madagascar, the horn, arabia, persia if you're feeling frisky. Rushing quinine a few tech upgrades and malaria prevention to get those central african states with lead. Sadly I never get to pivot into conquering brazil and joining the crowns, though in one of my last runs I slapped the brits around for some land which was cool.

Haven't played this in awhile but I haven't seen much of anyone else playing this so I never knew how good my strategy was. Surprisingly similar starts downgrading military and getting quick construction sectors. I think I went early academia with Persia as well but then quickly turned to mining, advanced tools, and railroads, definitely pushing for a faster industrial start. I think I had a bit more money issues but I dived into some early trade, paper mills, filing cabinets etc. To right that ship. Please do more Victoria, I can't believe I'm saying this as I haven't picked this game up in awhile. Tempted to do so though!

Very fun video! I'd love some more Vic 3 vids here and there. Just a little tip. Never go low taxes in the beginning. It's much more effective to raise your SOL through creating jobs and for that you need tax money before you get tons of investors. Taxes as an SOL tool are really only usefull once lowering them will expand your investment pool, and most of your pops aren't peasants anymore that'll starve regardless of taxes.

As for riding the zero debt line, that is a good strategy for minor or unrecognized nations. Great Powers don't pay much interest on their debt though and so can afford to go into debt for construction. You just want to make sure that the deficit is increasing slower than the debt ceiling (which scales off of your rank and economy, so building more industry means also raising the debt ceiling)

It's going to sound weird, but id honestly get the game after the next DLC drops, because these kinds of games have so many mechanics to learn once they're "complete" so it's really helpful to learn the base first and then slowly add all of the mechanics that come with new DLC.

I think it would be a great idea to do a tutorial as a smaller or more vulnerable country, one that even experienced players would struggle with, such as Greece or Bavaria or one of the Algerian states, showing players how to get the absolute most of of the absolute least, and how to win against much larger countries. Vicky 3 is one of those games where power imbalances are really hard to overcome.

I've had a lot of fun playing as Egypt and Peru-Bolivia. It helps A LOT that they have all the resources they need, yet still have to play smart in order to expand. I wish it was easier to play as a smaller country and not hit a modernization wall so quickly, or that playing as anyone in the vicinity of Prussia didn't guarantee constant war until the AI finally gets its unification. The difference between a sleeping AI and an impossible AI is razor thin.

If you are big bu not advanced enough you can even mitch and match. The other big thing is how aggressive you play. If you push everything to the limit, one small thing that wont your way just might start the domino effect....
