I Drive The Polestar 2 To Sweden! Testing Out The Spicy Performance Upgrade Software

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Kyle is in Denmark heading to Sweden in this video with the Polestar 2 Performance! This Polestar 2 has the performance software pack that ups the power to 350kW, an increase of 25kW per motor, and contains some other small features too. In this video Kyle heads to Gothenburg to Volvo / Polestar HQ to snoop around and do some car spotting before turning around and heading back to Copenhagen.

I haven't driven one but I find it interesting that it is "lacking" for $70k and then you mention the Model Y. I have the model Y long range and it has the cheapest interior materials, everything rattles or squeaks, and it rides like a cabbage cart with square wheels. Price out a Model Y Performance (same crappy quality as long range I'm sure) and it's $73,990

I've got a mint, very original, very low mileage1967 P1800s and a not so mint 1964 Amazon 122s with a B20 single carb in place of the B18.. used to have a 142 and a 144GL (injection) remember the 262c testing in Scotland (Morayshire) before it went into production......seriously good machines! My son's first car was an S60 with the small 1.7 diesel but with the R-Design pack, so it looked fast...

Just drove my XC40 P8 from mid Norway (Trondheim) to Genova Italy. 6200km. Charged only on Ionity, and didn't have one problem with the car. No overheating, even with driving on the autobahn, and back to back Ionity charging, with AC on (because I travelled with my dog). Only problem I had , was the heavy ionity cable/plug, so that the charging stopped when I let go of it. Long, but a nice drive :)

Visit Volvo HQ (see if they can give you a tour of the Torslanda factory, they were open to it before covid, don't know if it's open again), visit the Volvo museum, and in Trollhättan visit the SAAB museum. I have very fond memories of Torslandaverken growing up and my father taking me there and showing me around the factory and offices as he worked in R&D there during the P2 and P3 times.

Few weeks back, I saw a truck full of Polestars! Good stuff, Kyle. Thanks for engaging, encouraging and providing wealth of information by producing endless content, mate. Not as easy as it looks with different logistics but you guys make it happen! I like the idea of bringing your own charging cable. Eliminates vandalism, but then again, that sort of thing is quite rare in those parts. I would like to see States adapt this type of stalls for EVs. Speaking of charging stations, there is another Tesla Superchargers are being installed in Alaska, and EVGo and EA can’t get their head and elbows wired together for consistencies in providing charging. Sorry, I go on and on like a broken record, but it’s the reality. Hoping that changes overtime. Keep up the great work! 🍻

The timing of this video is a funny concidence. I was also in Copenhagen around August 18th then we did a day in Malmo and a couple of night in Gothenburg and finished with Stockholm. By train you get no view of the bridge as the train is under the cars. I saw lots of ID4 in Copenhagen and in Stockholm. There were quite a few Mercedes EQB, EQE, EQS and EQS SUV in Copenhagen. Stockholm had more ID4 and Polestar I'd say. Not that much Volvo compared to Gothenburg where there's tons of them. We went to Gothenburg mostly for the Volvo Museum and I highly recommend it. Sweden for a small country has very good rail system. The train reaches 200 KM and pass frequently. Unfortunately, it's very late during our trip we had the idea to open a Aimoshare account (it's an EV car sharing app. They have mostly ID3 and ID4). We wanted to test drive an ID4 as in Montreal, QC, it's pretty much not possible. I have a reservation for the Ioniq 5 but with close to 2 years delay, I'm seriously considering the Polestar 2 single motor with the Plus package. The thing that sucks with Polestar is they require the Plus package just for ACC and the Premium Package for the heat pump. Quite anoying !

Loved the review Kyle! I have a Polestar 2 non performance pack, but with everything else, and the Napa leather, the "vegan" interior looked cheap to me, but if being vegan is important to you have at it. I purchased mine in June, when you couuld still get the $7500 tax credit, now it doesn't qualify, so my "final" price will be closer to $60k and $70. Still expensive, but what isn't these days, I ordered it in early March and had it in late June, so not bad. We've not had any of the TCAM issues you see on the forums either. We're in MN, so summer heat isn't as much of an issue, now we'll see what kind of range hit we'll get in the winter! BTW, we've owned it for about 3 months and still have't done a dc fast charge, all level 2 at home.

In Sweden it is very common to have engine heater poles. that is, electrical connection for the engine heater and electric compartment heater in the car, even for completely ordinary petrol cars. The Swede does not want to come out to a cold car and especially in northern Sweden it can get quite cold. you can e.g. see engine heater poles outside apartments. But still so that those who rent out apartments may have set a limit on how one sees why the cabin heater has, for example, 600 W. ok, even if they accept each other, a maximum of a 6 A fuse can handle it, so it's not a question of any fast charger generally outside rental apartments

I get 4.2 seconds 0-60mph in my standard 300kw PS2, so maybe he was going slightly uphill? I was hoping the 350kw upgrade would knock the 0-100km time down to 4 sec flat, and a 0-60mph around 3.8 or 3.9. Either way, the car is definitely fast enough.

I have a fully spec'd Polestar 2. The driving experience is great. The tech is terrible. Choosing Android to operate basically everything was a bad choice. The system has to be restarted constantly. The backup camera freezes all the time. How does that happen? If I set it to charge to 90% overnight it will charge to 95%, or 62%, or maybe 78%. It stops at random SOC above or below the setting. A bright spot is I have never had an issue charging at a public charger. It always makes the connection on EA, EVGO, ChargePoint, Volta, whatever.

I've been living with my Polestar 2 Performance pack for about 6 months and agree with most of the comments. My car has had a few Android Automotive related software glitches and occasional issues with LTE connectivity, but it has never stranded or died on me. I have had none of the TCAM issues you read about on the forums. While watching I noticed the "groaning" of the AC compressor mount after your first DC charge. This is a known issue (especially loud on left hand turns) and there is a replacement part out for that now. The battery can get pretty toasty on a DC charger and it will definitely heat up more when using the AC, since there is only one compressor for both the battery and car cooling loops. They really should be separate. This has proved to be the real "achille's heel" for the car in very hot south Texas summers and efficiency REALLY suffers. One final note: the performace power upgrade is still AWOL in the U.S. after a year of discussion, and speculation is that it has to do with the dealer-based sales model in the US versus the direct sales model elsewhere. In any case, I find the 408hp to be more than adequate and not sure I'll spring for it since I'm already 20% through my lease and I won't be buying it. Otherwise, it's a very compelling car to drive and that's why I got one. Great video Kyle!

Yeah I'm in San Antonio TX With A XC40 Recharge (Mechncically similar battery & Motors) and it gets toasty in the summer with DC changers or even AC Charging. The fans kick on and stay on High to help try to cool the front radiator when it's stationary. You can feel the heat vented out through the front wheel wells. I really do wish they had a more robust cooling design for the car I guess that might be an oversight given the design out of Sweden? Side note the Performance upgrade is AWOL for the Polestar 2 in the US like you said and its damn near vaporware status for the Volvo Cars of the C40 & XC40 saddly.

The thermal limiting on the charge is very weird. I charge all the time at 105°F for 20 min in the sweet part of the curve just like you did and ive never seen thermal limiting.

@@johnpoldo8817 It's a Swedish designed and engineered car. Why should that stuff come from the USA? Anyway, a lot of USA designed/engineered cars aren't made in the USA and are made from globally sourced parts. If you don't want Chinese built, then it's damned near impossible to get anything. Some component of any washing machine, phone, car, any car including American-built car, will have some Chinese components in it. Even some American built Teslas have Chinese components in them. I understand the part about China but to be honest, Polestar would not exist were it not for Geely Holding, a Chinese company, getting a heck of a lot better products out of Volvo than the American car Ford company was able to. And the American car company GM killed the other great Swedish car, Saab, when GM owned them. So I'm not so anti-Chinese about Volvo and Polestar.

You really don’t need the performance pack suspension and brakes unless you are doing track days all the time. I have the DM with OTA performance upgrade on 19in wheels and performance is awesome., particularly, as you say, midrange performance. No booming with the std suspension and 19in wheels. Handling on bendy roads is as good as my VW Golf R if not better with than powering out of corners.
