I have a dual motor P2. Lovely car. Looks great. Very smooth. Very comfortable. Handles great. More power than I will ever need. I have driven the base model with single motor and without the 'plus' pack and was left feeling very underwhelmed. The dual motor version with the plus pack is the way to go with these.

The transmission tunnel isn't wasted space though. It's filled with batteries, including under the seats. This gives it the lower driving position that sets it apart from SUVs.

I specced my long range dual motor without the performance pack to gain slightly better range and softer ride then redirected that money towards the ventilated leather seats instead. Because here in Queensland those WeaveTech seats would just never work. So happy with my choices.

You're right, it is a great car. Mine is fully loaded except for the Performance Pack which to me wasn't worth the extra money, especially as those awful color seatbelts would have been unbearable 😀 One correction: if you get the leather seats, (which I have), then you can have them ventilated: well worth it here in California.

I just wish they were offered in other colors besides Flint (grayish white?). I'd prefer a darker color like black to be able to cover up blemishes and markings that appear over time.

Nice review! I‘m driving a Polestar 2 (LRDM) for more than two years, and I still prefer it over everything else out there in this price range. The Polestar 4 though looks like a „valid“ alternative, bringing everything I like about the P2 a step higher 👍

Thanks for the review Stu. This is one that is definitely on the consideration list for my next EV. But the on-paper specs for the Ioniq 6 look better so I'm looking forward to that review. We'll see if it improves on the 18.7 rating.

I didn't say it in the video, but our overall efficiency in the Polestar 2 was about 21.5 kWh/100km. You'll notice on the dash in the spirited driving I'm getting numbers of 50-ish, but performance comes at a cost. Unsurprising. In efficiency terms, it's not as good as Tesla or the Korean cars. Regarding the IONIQ 6, I drove the Polestar to the Hyundai event where I had a brief track drive of the pre-release IONIQ 6 test mule. So I was lucky to drive both on the same day. Very different cars from behind the wheel - both ergonomically and they way they drive. Once you've sat in both, it'll probably be an easy decision - one way or the other based on your preference.

I don't know what happened when you didn't get any charge stops for a long trip in Google map. I have never seen that. Google Maps in the car is definitely aware of the car's range and the current driving style as far as impacting the need for charging stops. While ABRP is useful for planning, it doesn't integrate well with Google Maps right now.

That's actually a really good question. We didn't use my phone's connectivity. Australia is one of the countries where the vehicle's integrated modem is included for 3 years from the purchase date (according to Polestar website). They also say that ... "The vehicle can be connected to the Internet via a Bluetooth-connected phone or a Wi-Fi network. In some markets, connection is also possible via the vehicle's integrated modem. If the vehicle has connections to several different sources at the same time, it will first attempt to connect over Wi-Fi, then Bluetooth and, finally, via the vehicle's integrated modem." The list of supported countries is pretty long - Aus, most EU, US, Canada, Koria, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, UK, Scandinavian, Benelux. Not Russia though. Ya boo! Suck eggs, Russia.

I'm glad you asked. The beauty of video editing. I used segments of another video, with Mark driving a GT4RS Cayman on a similar section of road, but at a private facility. Then I just found bits that were similar in terrain and matched them. Sadly that other video hasn't been made public as the owners of the facility don't want it shown on social. Which is a damn shame as the GT4RS was epic.

I was actually talking about a city car park in Sydney - indoors. They are pretty tight. The day we made the video I'd parked my Model S in one that was pretty full and had to manoeuvre around both cars and kerbs trying to avoid damaging wheels. A couple of places were so tight that I had to take a couple of bites at a corner to a ramp and adjusted my mirrors to look at the passenger side rear wheel. With the parking alarms screaming because the front was next to a wall the rear wheel cleared the kerb by about 2cm. The Polestar 2 probably has a shorter wheelbase, but the visibility would've been terrible without cameras etc. Many people have no comprehension of how tight some of the city underground car parks are in Sydney CBD.

Would you say the throttle mapping/pedal response is similar to the XC40 Recharge, or different? I have heard multiple people reference a delay in the throttle of the Polestar. I don't notice that in the Volvo. I ordered a BST230 based on how good the little Volvo is, but I've never driven a P2.

Adjusting the rears dampers isn't a workshop job and you don't have to take anything off. Jack the wheel up, undo a couple of hand tightened nuts in the wheel well and adjust the damper

  • @inCARnationAustralia

Interesting. I did jack it up and didn't find it that easy. (It was a press loan car so I didn't want to mess with it too much.) Couldn't easily remove the shroud to gain access to shocks. No nuts evident so I'm not sure which you're referring to. Maybe I just gave up too early.
