Polestar 2 Review - What makes it better than a Tesla Model 3? | 4K

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Polestar 2 is one of the most exciting vehicles to come from Sweden in recent years. Our founder Richard Norris gives us his thoughts, based on his experience with the car, in this Polestar 2 in-depth review.
This review covers all variations of the polestar 2 including long and short range models as well as single and duel motor options. We look at the build quality, handling, acceleration, range and driving feel along with a comparison to its closest rival, the Tesla Model 3.
We have a range of electric vehicles available to view on our forecourt. Please call to book an appointment to view and test drive this great Electric Car.

The key advantage of the Polestar 2 over the Tesla Model 3 is that the Polestar 2 is a hatchback and the Tesla Model 3 is a sedan. So you can get a chest of drawers or under counter fridge in the back of the Polestar whereas the Model 3 has limited practicality for carrying big items like bicycles, chests of drawers etc. The Model Y is coming to the UK in the new year but is more expensive than the model 3.

Calm, well balanced review, thanks! Looking towards Teslas Model 2 or whatever its called, however, Volvo offerings seem very good, especially given that Volvo, being car manufacturer for far longer than Tesla, should have also overall better build quality both inside and out. I was cross shopping the Model 3 and Polestar 2. In the end I went with the Model 3. Everything you said was spot on and I preferred the Polestar 2’s hatchback and towing capability and it’s looks. But in the end the option packs which are all pretty much included in the base Tesla were just too much of a stretch. The other negatives with the Polestar 2 for me, were the lack of interior space (if comparing to the Model 3), those tiny rear door entries which would make putting a child in and out of a car seat back breaking work, the boring corporate paint colours and the fact that it’s significantly heavier and less efficient. I still would have bought it if the plus pack and pilot pack didn’t add $AUD11,000 to the price. And if the white had been standard rather than a $1,500 option.

Nice revieuw, What wonders me with a revieuw about E/cars is that the electric engines and drivetrain are never reviewed or showed. Off cource there is nothing under `the hood` but I think car lovers want to see what is the hearth of the car they buy.

Challenges to being an early adopter! My Polestar 2 EV was in the Volvo/Polestar service dept for the 2nd time in its short lease life, this time for 26 days, to try to fix software and possibly hardware issues. With the help/intervention of Polestar corporate, the car was finally returned yesterday afternoon with 45% remaining so I plugged it in and I couldn't immediately charge it. Back to the service dept today; the brutal saga continues! According to IHS Markit, forecasted expected volume for 2021 is only about 250 vehicles/month. Polestar corporate, its PS2 vehicle, the customer service team, vehicle repair services, and parts inventory are clearly not ready for prime time in the US! It is not like you can go to another dealer or repair shop; your are stuck with the one service location and team. Lesson learned?

Quite disappointed that you have to buy a pack in this day and age to get adaptive cruise control that pretty much comes standard not only on all EVs but also on much cheaper petrol vehicles.

I went to view a Polestar and liked everything about it. The fit and finish was as good as anything I've seen. It was a really nice car. And then I sat in the back seat. I'm just 6 foot tall and my head was pressed up to the headlining. It just wouldn't be comfortable for anyone my height and above to travel in for any distance. I'm so gutted because otherwise it was perfect for me and was top of my shopping list.

I've got 2 children who are almost as tall as me and still have time to grow and it just feels a compromise to far for a car that is a lot of money. I can't ask them to just "scooch" down as others have suggested when we head out from Cheshire to the east coast of Scotland as we do. As I say everything else about the car is brilliant. I am pretty upset but I don't think it will work in our individual case. For those it does work for it will be a great purchase.

HEPA filters - great for any unfortunate person to have extreme allergies and other breathing issues, for the rest of us, I bet hardly anyone will notice the difference of the filter quality of any premium car from the last 10-20 years.. probably cheap to change the filters after warranty too ;-) Last review I saw, Volvo's driver assistance systems were quite on par with Tesla, better on some areas, worse on some.

Rear wheel drive works better with EVs as the high levels of torque tend to spin front driven wheels. Maybe front drive is better suited for Scandinavian winters. I need to tow and the 1600 kg towing capacity of the Polestar is tempting (1000 kg for the Model 3), though I’m unsure whether that’s capacity is available in all variants.

I have test driven the PoleStar-2 several times and thought a lot of good of it - in all aspects. This "review" though sounds more like a sales-pitch, where DG will compliment what he likes (and is mostly subjective) versus the 3 and avoid giving much head-2-head in more measurable parts .. I will clarify this where Tesla is a clear winner. i) access, ii) performance - between both base models : 0-60, 1/4 ,mile, top speed, iii) efficiency : does with 50kW what the Polestar 62kW and more. iv) trunk & frunk space. v) default panoramic glass-top, vi) default thermal-pump, vii) can charge up to 175kWh {version 2020}, the 2022 or 2023 is supposed to go all the way to 250kWh ! That being said, the Tesla went from $52k canadian to $59K, making it drop the federal incentive whereas the PoleStar starts at $54,900 and has both (federal $5k & provincial $7k) If I had to repeat, it would thus be the base PoleStar with the package that includes the thermal-pump.

ET5 to dominate the entire entry-to-mid luxury sedan segment no doubt ! If you look at the quality (no gap between panels and no mismatched colors like Tesla cars), interior design and materials used, build quality, craftmanship, utility, range (topping Model 3's long range 334 miles) even in base model of ET5 already provide 341 miles (550 km) per full charge) not to mention highest trim's 1,000 km per full charge that is a whopping 621 miles!, service quality (where Tesla let you wait for months for available parts), upgradable batteries (where Tesla let you have your depleting batteries), exclusive NIO Houses and Places that let you enjoy exclusivity and enjoy time off from other things (which Tesla does not provide any Tesla clubs - you wish), and many other goodies of being an owner of a NIO. I find the front very claustrophobic. Console is a huge problem and visibility forward and sides is rather poor. Worst is the LKA, far inferior to my 2013 Acura. Headroom in back is compromised for anyone slightly taller than average. Ride is good, better than TMY I also drove. But, the steering on this is terrible, much wheel turning required. Really only one useful small cup holder in front. Cargo capacity is a disappointment. I did appreciate the 360 camera. Overall, I much prefer the Tesla Y. The P2 is much easier to get into than the M3, but I am not considering the M3. MY is easier than the P2 to get into. Really dismayed that V2G/V2L is missing on both the P3 and MY.

Disappointing not fitted with intelligent cruise control or heat pump on the cheaper model, as it's hardly a cheap car, they are expensive options. My Nissan Leaf 40kWh has both those. Better points are its hatchback, much more practical, more comfortable ride, and a towing capacity of 1.5 tonnes on every model which could be a real winner for many - being able to tow a medium sized caravan is exactly what many would like - range is severely cramped when towing, but if on holiday, you can take your time. . The disparagement of Tesla's looks is disappointing - its streamlined looks and lower frontal area are why it's so efficient. They are classic looks which could be improved by a bit of paint and other detailing. Those derided looks save you ££ every time you drive it. I think all in all, the Polestar 2 is a good car, though. Many folk still don't trust Tesla's build quality, whether that's still fair or not, I don't know.

@@davidcaia2559 this is all partly due to Tesla refusing to open up their chargers and cables years ago when EVs were just getting started. Overall , this car is not superior to a model 3 im sry...the interior feal so mutch tighter in many areas...the numbers of efficiency and performance are all on the 3 sides. The doors windows are super small...too high and too close from the driver...The door handles feal cheaper from the exterior and door itself feal like there a empty area between the exterior and interior panel when you close it.More squeeak and crack noise from the interior in the cabin in the polestar. The center console takes too mutch room in the car.1 cup holder only in the front and very badly positionined.Very bad interior room to store stuff. The side bolster on seats are very small for a "sporty" compact and this with the 4k vent seat option.Sound system in the m3LR is superior to the optionnal one in the polestar for sure. The rear leg rooms is bad compare to the 3 also.Model 3 tech> polestar in term of App's , Navi, voice command or querky cool stuff you can do with the car Absolutly not a better car than a Model 3 M3LR = 1865 ish Kilos Polestar 2 Awd is like 2200++Kilo 🤣🤔😬 will eat tires like mad You might feal more "special" driving a Polestar2 cuz there is almost none on the road compare to the model 3 but at the end you are driving a car Chinese car that is 3 years newer on the market than a Model3 and inferior in almost any aspect that dosent rely on personnel taste

So it gets less miles to the charge, cost about as much or more and at the moment you're stuck with crappy charging networks....but hey...it looks good in your opinion over the Model 3. So is that what makes it better than a Tesla. If so then I'll pass. I saw one just the other day and I have to say...I really do like its looks in person. I really don't have anything negative against the car per se. It's just every time I layout the pros and cons of buying my next car and wanting that car to be an EV I continually come to the conclusion that a Model 3 LR or Model Y LR is my next car. So far nothing out there tops them...at least not yet.

It really comes down to your requirements and what you are looking for from a car. The latest EVs hitting the market are mostly all very good, some in slightly different ways and it does come down to what is right for you. This is why we try to have as much variety on our forecourt so customers can experience as many EVs side by side. We take the time to learn what people are looking for and can present some options that best fit their needs, but beyond that, purchasing a car is often a very personal thing. The Model 3 is an exceptional car, no two ways about it. However we are thrilled to see more and more competition hit the market, which ultimately pushes all of the manufacturers to keep innovating and pushing the technology further forward.

Tesla got a great and generous head start in the EV market, but others are catching up, quickly. Tesla will have to put all their efforts into innovation, each and every day, to maintain that head start. And even then, can they continue to outpace the likes of VAG and an increasing numbers of competitors? Added to that Teslas have become too common these days and in that sense the Polestar is a welcome fresh breath of air.

@@LERobbo It will be a software race no doubt. While Tesla may seem common place I tend to believe that they went with a somewhat timeless design. Not much has changed from the exterior designs but even an original Model S and a 2018 Model 3 still look good on the road today. I think everyone else will continue to change their body styles a lot. That's just what the OEM's do. But in my opinion it's going to come down to software features in the short run. This is where VW is struggling right now. Admittedly Polstar has an awesome infotainment system. Where Tesla struggles is the lack of Android Auto and Apple Car Play and the lack of an app store. This is where others shine over them.

@@DriveGreen You're right. Tesla needs more competition in the market. I'm sad we can't get some of the Chinese cars here such as BYD and the Xpeng. Those two I think would be great competition. Others are coming up. The Ford Mach E has a good start and sold very well. Hyundai, Kia and Nissan are do to hit the market soon and will have lots of buzz around them.

Model 3 and Polestar 2 are similiar enough to compare them. And different enough so that there can not be a "winner". It all comes down to taste and personal needs. For my taste for example, Tesla's interior and exterior design is 3/10 where Polestar is ~9/10.

Drive Green - NOPE, the POLESTAR 2 is just another TESLA wantabe, and is a VERY CHEAPLY made car in CHINA. FACTS are the MIC model 3 at GigaShanghai is a SUPERIOR car with SMART car features and LONGER Range & Efficiency. the POLESTAR 2 is made on a ICEV platform and even has an OUTDATED T - shape battery and a noticable BUMP in the REAR Center seat floor. the TESLA model 3 has a Completely FLAT floor . and the POLESTAR 2 weak sales indicates its a GARBAGE car.
