Tesla Cybertruck Review // We Drove It Over 500 Miles...And Oh Boy
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The 2024 Cybertruck Cyberbeast ($99,990 starting in the US) is possibly the most polarizing and most unique new vehicle on the market today. Sharp edges and acute angles along with an ultra-durable stainless steel exterior make for a truck like none other before it. But is it more than just a unique mars-rover looking novelty? And does the Cybertruck’s range live up to the expectations? Thomas and James are excited to take the new Cyberbeast on a not-so-mini Throttle House Road Trip. We hope you enjoy the episode! And then subscribe, silly.

It’s because other cars are sold in global markets where they actually have pedestrian safety laws. North America has none and has always just relied on foreign markets to regulate our cars for us.

As of now 41 idiots like this comment. The us has no rules regarding pop up headlights for pedestrian safety. That is a European rule of course. Elon already said the cybertruck wont be sold outside of US. He built a car the way he wanted. F the world. Come to America if you want one.
@garrymullins

Are you sure they were banned strictly due to pedestrian safety? Pop-up headlights make a lot less sense in the era of daytime running lights. Maintenance costs of pop-up headlights were already a concern, but when you need them to pop-up literally every time the car is driven, that increases wear and tear significantly.

Well it can chop off your fingers, every join is a knife-edge, the interior sucks, it's barely holding together under tension, you need to wipe it down every time dust falls on it, AND it's hard to park. All around, not too bad! 🙃
Hey guys, just an FYI. When you touched the wheel cover and said you had brake dust on your fingers, that probably was not brake dust. The little wings on the wheel covers scrape the sidewalls with every rotation of the wheels when the tire sidewall flexes out slightly from the weight.

I actually think your carrot stunt @29:02 will result in a meaningful safety upgrade for the truck ASAP. Tesla is one huge lawsuit away from a customer losing four fingers at an airport putting their carry-on in the frunk from doing it themselves. Seriously, this should be fixed ASAP. When I was a young lad my sister slammed my finger shut in our trusty 1990 Volvo 245 rear door. The door shut completely. I remember the day vividly. If my family had a Cybertruck little Aaron would have grown up with nine fingers. I have 10 (it turned black and blue but healed in a few weeks). Nice work lads keep up the interesting content!

I've driven this route so many times. It was a great time of year to take Highway 152 over Pacheco Pass and by San Luis Reservoir. Your first Supercharger stop was even right next to a pretty popular (extremely important) Electrify America charging location, which also explains the size of the Supercharger site (Tesla likes to build their biggest Supercharger stations next to existing public charging stations -- likely an attempt at marketing).

“I’m going to go home and kick my Miata, forgetting THAT’S NOT WHAT YOU DO.” 😂😂😂
The carrot test. I heard of the moose test. All sorts of tests. But not the carrot test. :) I see the frunk lid coming down on the carrots. You know the rubber trim around the door openings? Put something like that on the underside of the frunk lid edge. It’s better to have rubber squeeze your finger than that raw sharp steel. Also I had a Mac laptop that had a sharp edge so I used a bit of sandpaper to dull down the sharpness. And it worked! Of course, don’t overdo it and make a knife edge, just make it round to the feel. Some locations where panels meet and don’t come apart like with doors and lids, these joints could be filled with black or charcoal grey caulking. Put enough in so skin can’t reach the sharp edge. It should be barely noticeable if carefully done. And it makes the truck a bit more child proof. I also saw how much the steel shows fingerprints and scratches. People making outdoor plaster on a house make a rough design because if they made it perfectly smooth the smallest nick would be noticeable. Superficial designs could be ground into the steel not deep enough that it can’t be buffed out but deep enough to have some durability and get noticed. So this could be swirls over all the surfaces or floral designs just where fingerprints usually show up. Or it could be a whole mural over the whole truck. Or a combination of these. So the way a tattoo is unique to one person, your Cybertruck would have a look unique to it, which could be covered up with a wrap for a change of pace. This idea could be pushed more by applying colour into some of the deepest grooves to give it a more noticeable look. One look would be intentionally make it look like it experienced the apocalypse, with red and orange and yellow and blue rust colours.
"i dont know where i stand on it" > guy literally standing on it
You guys continue to prove why you're the best auto journalists on KZread. This made my day. Keep being great.

Instead of saying that there is a lot of noise in the car, why not use a dB meter to measure it? You could even use a phone app to do that (rough estimate obviously). The whining noise at top speed is probably due to the electric motor. It means that the motor has a problem. Seen how easily these cars have failed in the past, it should be checked immediately. This is true for all electric motors. It will drastically shorten its lifespan. Doesn't the cybertruck have an option to adjust the headlights? If they are already shining upwards, what happens when the truck is carrying a heavy load in the back? If it doesn't have this option, the cybertruck won't pass standard tests in Europe. This must be the first Tesla I'd be interest in driving, not purchasing or owning due to the price and high maintenance. It seems to have very cool and interesting new features like air suspension which feels amazing if done right, the 4 wheel steering reducing the turning circle, the adaptable steer by wire software (I hope Tesla will include an option to tweak the setting according to the owner's preference), etc. The basic version available in 2025 features rear wheel drive which is nice but isn't a logical choice for a non-sports car. I wouldn't recommend it to people who want to use the cybertruck as a truck. Sadly it is also lacking standard features like a protective coating, decent mirrors, a see-through part in the Donald Glover, a few buttons for basic function and a (analogue) dash with basic info. I like minimalism and don't need gimmicks but basic features should be kept. Just like the exterior, the rest of the car is a hit or a miss. If you clean the door, being able to use it as a knife seems like a plus. All of the kicking and shooting at the car seems unfair. No-one would try that with another car. Same for the test closing the frunk. Has this been tested with any other car?

Trucks and true SUVs usually have an adjustment for aiming the headlights up and down. That is in case the load in the rear causes the front end to raise. I have it on my old Outlander. It really does reposition the beam throw a fair bit. Somewhere in that menu, I think Telsa put the same thing. Much easier to find on a car with buttons that have an image of the function on the control.
I could never afford one of those but if I were insanely wealthy, I could see owning one for kicks. If I had to own an EV, it would be one of those things. At any rate, I am now a subscriber as I thourougly enjoyed this review.
