I used to be a store manager at the Avatar area of Walt Disney World at DAK. I also did this years ago to prep myself on the lore. Mostly, no one gave a shit about the lore and just liked the rides. Except one guy. Navi Bob. Fucking Navi Bob. Came to the park almost every day in almost full hybrid safari/avatar vibes and tried speaking to people in Navi, which he was fluent in. Nobody spoke it. There was also a lady who showed up often with a hyperrealistic Navi baby in a carrier. She would tell unprompted it cost $600. Weird job.

I think one of the reasons the movie was a huge success besides the "Made for 3D" thing (and James Cameron's name) is the large amount of worldbuilding and effort put into creating the setting and creatures, which are then portrayed with really good effects and CGI that still hold up, frankly IMO this interesting setting/worldbuilding was really held back by that simplistic cliché plot, which is why I'm interested in seeing what kind of plot they will use in the sequels and how much they will expand the setting.

As someone who played the Multiplayer fairly extensively on 360. I'm gonna give a short perspective on it. It was horribly balanced (Weapon loadouts were determined by your level in the single player if I'm not mistaken, so if you finished the game you had a massive advantage over someone who for whatever reason had not), yet kinda fun due to the jank. You always go RDA. Certain parts of the maps would funnel the Na'vi players, letting the RDA just completely massacre them. I used the Nail Gun myself. I nailed a bunch of Na'vi back in the day. Didn't even need a hair erection. Good times. Fun fact, I assume as a collaboration with the Disney Parks, before Disney Infinity was cancelled there were plans to include Jake Sully and Neytiri as playable characters/figues. This was before Disney owned Fox too.

My favorite example of different games with the exact same box art actually doesn't come from a licensed game. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was released in time for the movie and the PS3/360 game was completely different from the Wii/PSP version. Not only with gameplay, but the stories are completely unrelated and neither of them tie into the film they were trying to promote. It's just weird to see this coming from an already famous game franchise. I guess that all the licensed jank that Ubisoft was doing at the time rubbed off on their mainline titles.

If there's any one failing of the Avatar franchise (specifically the movie), it's the use of the name unobtanium. They could have called it ANYTHING else and it would have been better. They could have gone basic and called it E-119 (the 119th element) and it would have been fine. It feels like unobtanium was a placeholder name in the original script that just...stuck and was never changed. It's terrible.

18:12 Literally me. I thought this game died in everyone’s memory and i was the only one who played it. Also, me and my brother unironically had the ps3 version, wii version and I had the iOS version. A lot of people discredit Avatar, from its copying of plot elements to an uninspired score compared to a very cool project that paid for musicians to hear from indigenous people across the world to give the Navi a unique sound that was ultimately scrapped. I also think they underestimate how cool it was to kids. Big battles on a planet that looks like our, but with otherworldly elements. And visually, especially for the time, it was the only movie of that high quality graphics to bring those kid’s dreams of a greener planet with a cool tree house to life. It was a monopoly for the time of giving kids another world to escape into, and i think thats what these games were trying to capitalise on.

Soooo hear me out… I loved the IOS Avatar Game. It actually was the first time that I got to know this strange universe. I mean I was 6 years old when the game came out and I guess when I played it I was like 8. I played through it like 5-6 times. I still have it very dear to my heart and it’s one of my favorite games out there, especially for mobile. When I was 12 years old I watched avatar and I was amazed but also confused because I thought that the story would be the same as in the video game, like normally for licensed games. Then I bought the WII game and I played it together with a friend. We freakin loved that game so much. No joke I think we were one of the biggest fans of this game. We finished it like 4 times in every difficulty setting and every upgrade etc. It was always after school, staying at my place and playing this game for hours!!! So this whole video was like a little trip to nostalgia city for me :) P.S.: I also loved the other licensed games by game loft like Iron Man oder Spiderman. Those were great. I really wish they would still produce games like these nowadays. Not for me especially but for the kids today. Because those had always a better story and gameplay than ang free 2 play game!

It wasn't just licensed games, a bunch of 7th gen titles released different versions of a game on different platforms, Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, Sonic Colors, Tom Clancy Double Agent, etc. I kinda miss those days of companies trying to make games that took advantage of specific hardware. Like instead of now where they use black magic to put games like Dying Light and Doom Eternal on the Switch, I'd rather they make almost a different game like some of those 7th gen titles I mentioned (hopefully also something that actually ran at 60fps). Also despite the quality of these game it is nice to see a company try to take an IP in different ways (like Mario the greatest game franchise when it comes to variety), more than I say about a lot of other certain major gaming IP that just does the same thing every year . And while do I understand why people would think otherwise, I feel that new Avatar game coming out has potential to be something pretty great.
