Man, I think it's pretty ballsy to give players the choice to play as an RDA soldier, slaughtering the Na'vi. Even if they imply that it's the immoral choice, it's still a fully viable way to play and that's dope.

This game IS underrated especially since it's one of the few actually good games that ties in to the events of a movie while not being too overbearing. The Riddick games are also good examples of a video game tie-in to a movie IP that is pretty satisfying. Also, the RDA campaign is actually the canon decision considering you take part in the final battle against the Navi at the Well of Souls.
@VexAcer

It's pretty insane how high budgeted and ambitious Riddick manages to be despite being a licensed tie-in game. And how they manage to pull it off properly too. They took a risk with the game instead of just making a cheap/safe cash grab.

I question how well it ties in, it takes place before the movie but you'd think it would have a bigger impact on things like relationship with the Navi or the Avatar program or the potential of another avatar going native before sully comes along as it is the most that's happened is vehicles get spears lodged in them the RDA maybe shot up a school for navi one time

Compared to the annual shitwave that is COD, and the pay to win triple AAA fest, it was an golden age of gaming!
I remember avidly playing this my junior year in high school, it was/is a surprisingly good and addicting game. Edit: to answer your question about "being shot from nowhere" there are actually human sniper perches in some of the missions (little dugouts which contain humans with precision rifles) Also one thing that separates the human and na'vi factions are how quickly you can gain spare lives. With the na'vi you can gain it by harvesting plant material while with the RDA you can only gain it as drops from defeated enemies. (you need to collect 10 pieces of material to gain one spare live with a total of 5 spare lives)
I remember being a kid in italy in the early 2000’s and not owning a ps3 or a 360. I loved the 3rd person mech driving xbox game. What's really neat is that Cameron only added the mechs in the film after he saw them created in the videogame first.
I played this game when it came out. I bought the Nvidia 3d vision 3d glasses and monitor to play it on. It was EPIC! The 3d gaming was 100x better than movie 3d! Had no idea stereoscopic gaming looked so good. Been gaming in 3d that way with 90% of my games ever since, and Avatar the game was the catalyst.
Running this game on a 9800GT back in the day I was truly impress on the graphic quality and performance ratio.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that had a great time with this game. So much fun playing as the RDA. Reminds me of the Deathworld books. Great looking game too! Too bad the upcoming Avatar game limits you to playing as a Navi.
That ending talking about all the god tier releases towards the end of the 00s, that zapped me back into so much nostalgia. We really did have it all
Choosing between an RDA and Navi really is an interesting concept they put in this game. They really did watched the movie’s plot, and made it into a game where we can choose from a soldier or a Navi.
Best. Intro. Ever.

I’m glad you gave this game some recognition. I remember getting this game when I was young and I played it recently and I thought it was such an underrated game.
YES!! I've loved this game for so long and I've always heard more people say it sucked than hearing people give it any praise whatsoever. Never understood the hate. Loved this game more than the movie.
Love Your Videos man! Keep up the good work!!
You really just unlocked a recessed memory i pushed deep down... Like, i completely forgot this game existed but i remember loving it
I recently remembered this game when watching the way of the water. I was a kid and my uncle was visiting from Florida during the time and I remember having a lot of fun with it. It was relatively stable from what I remember and the gameplay felt good and varied. It’s cool seeing this obscure game get any positive coverage.
Yes! Love that this game is getting more recognition. I got it near when it came out because it hit the bargain bin pretty quick and special edition came with a figure. By the standards of most movie games, it's a surprisingly competent lite open world action RPG. My favorite aspect is that the game has a Metroid Prime-style scanner in which you scan objects, enemies and NPCs to unlock lore entries in the encyclopedia, and naturally between the two very different campaigns you get different opportunities to scan certain things. I'm not sure if there was anything exclusive to each campaign, but it was still fun to try to get all the encyclopedia entries and see the neat little worldbuilding lore they wrote into the game.
Your editing-game is an inspiration to us all, always guaranteed a good laugh
I like how generous they are with the rewards. You level up very frequently, and when you do you’re rewarded with tones of guns, skills and awesome looking outfits all at the same time. It’s very generous and keeps you playing.
Just wanna say: Your reviews are really good and entertaining. Even though I probably won't play 90% of the games you present.

I remember playing the game when it came out and enjoying it. I didn't become aware of its negative reception until later and I never really fully understood it. I mean, yeah, it's not like the greatest game ever or anything, but I thought it was fun enough.
Hello, i'm your average youtube gun nut, and i'd like to spend a word about James Cameron's ability to create some of the most credible, versatile, interesting and realistic sci-fi weapons i've ever seen. You are probably thinking about the alien franchise, but no, today i am talking about the CARB modular weapon system seen in the Avatar franchise. These weapons (unlike the overwhelming majority of sci-fi terrible looking crap usually put toghether with whatever the department could find) look belivable, usable, reliable while still being recognizable. Some people might say that they look generic, but honestly they do not. Sci-fi weapons who try to be realistic are normally just real life weapons with plastic stuff glued on top, while the team of Avatar actually took the time to create something new that still looks like something people would actually use and you can even still guess the role of each weapon and how they work. You can see the assault rifle with the underbarrel semi auto grenade launcher/shotgun (depending on the ammo) that can be removed and used separetely. Unfortunately the revolver is the usual "normal gun with stuff glued on top", but still i liked the effort.
I genuinely love this channel, I watch almost every video even if I’ve never played the game because you make it entertaining as fuck.

The nostalgia around this game is crazy to me, really want to replay it.
The multiplayer was great, but I don't think the devs intended that. When I played, the servers were empty, you'd get a 2 v 2 at best. But the low player count turned the game into a Predator-like team deathmatch, where the phase run and invisibility skills were the best skills to use. Combined with the airstrike/bird swarm thing, it was a team deathmatch ruled by gorilla tactics. The Navi bow was so hard to use, but super powerful. Sadly the RDA pistol and rifle were the most OP weapons in any multiplayer, and were basically Insta kills at short or long range respectively. While it might have been a tacked on mode, it was pretty fun and a gem of a mode that I won't forget from 2009.
Oh Gman, you are full of surprises! 😁
I remember playing this with the 3D glasses on a big 3D TV at the armageddon expo in NZ back in the day. That was a unique experience!

Every time I watch any of your videos, I really appreciate your sense of humor. Misty Stone surely approves.
I was kinda addicted to this game when it came out, loved the multiplayer
For me the biggest sell of the game was being able to play as the RDA. And as someone who replayed the campaign tones of times, the RDA from a gameplay sense was easily the best. If I can’t play as the RDA in Ubisoft’s new avatar game I don’t want it
It's so funny that you played the COD sound effects while I was playing MW3 Spec Ops
definitely agree man... there's also that stigma of movie Titan games just like games tied in the movies that people are wary of but occasionally we get these few gems that pop up and it's glorious...👍
I remember really enjoying playing this game on the xbox back in the day when I was released. A lot of my friends gave me a hard time because it was a movie tie in game, which there were many that I enjoyed and some that I did not. This was one of the few that actually stood out to me. I still haven't my collection and like to pop it out and play it from time to time period my 8 and 10 year old have recently enjoyed playing it as the new movie has released and they have been getting into that world. I thought it was cool that they used the far cry engine as that allowed them to create the nice jungle look that the movie had and thought it was cool that you could play as the Na'vi or humans. That said I'm glad the game is starting to get noticed again for the good things that it had. Seems like I've been seeing a lot of older games from the 7th generation that are starting to get a second look and more praise than what they recieved upon release.
As a man who enjoyed the avatar games as a kid, I’m glad you made this video
Awesome review man, awesome review. 🍻

While in the process of collecting the xbox 360 library,I made my way to movie based games and Avatar came along. It sincerely impressed me,good to see it get some love!
1:40 Ah, you're calling in an airstrike on the poor bastard already?
The game is actually pretty easy to run on modern PC despite its age, in fact i didn't have a single compatibility issue, it support various resolution, high framerate, smooth mouse & keyboard controls (tho i needed to edit 1 line in a config to disable mouse accel but it took me 5 seconds honestly) and i think the game hold up pretty well on PC, specially for a 2009 title.. let alone compared to those horrible PS3/X360 versions, night and day 👍🏼
I was able to pick this one up on eBay for 8 dollars despite the ridiculous price increase most likely due to release of the second movie.
Hearing the Tourettes Guy laugh clip was such a joy.
It's sad how much older games are more enjoyable to play, then compared to a lot of today's games coming from triple AAA developers.
