AVATAR | In-Depth Film Analysis: Neohumanism & Ayahuasca | Humanity vs Alternate Humanity

The Way of Water analysis : • (2024) The Power of 'A...
Back when AVATAR was released, there were news articles depicting a large number of people feeling depression and suicidal after watching the movie. As someone who felt this depression after seeing the movie for the first time in cinemas, I can tell you that the depression does not stem from the want to be on Pandora, the depression stems from the fact that this Earth IS Pandora.
The depression settles in as more realizations begin to occur. Humanity is allowing itself to become a disease to the planet, all for the sake of material gain. In any movie review of James Cameron’s AVATAR, we are mostly told it is praised for it’s CGI and not for it’s story. Which for the most part, lacked originality.
Comparisons are made to previous stories. Stories such as Ferngully, Pocahontas, and Dances with Wolves. Yet, what astounds me is that while people compare AVATAR to these films, they do not compare it to the events and situations that these films are focused on. Events and situations that are still ongoing to this day.
AVATAR uses symbolism and imagery to portray the atrocities committed by the Corporatocracy.
And, how our ignorance not only allows these atrocities to occur - but, also has halted our evolution.
AVATAR is not only a social commentary on the Extortion of Natural Resources, Exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, or Aboriginal Genocide. It is a simulation of what life can be..
Every claim in the analysis can be researched by anyone and a clear consensus can be reached.
The film not only shows that the planet we are from is the mother of all life, it shows an alternative form of humanity. The Na'Vi are representative of Neohumanism*, the next stage in our evolutionary path. The humans depicted in the film are clearly shown to be from the Western world. Working for Corporations that seek to maximize profits regardless of social or environmental loss. So, what we have here is a film depicting two possible forms of humanity, the old paradigm vs the new paradigm,
I hope this video shows you a new perspective on life or affirms your perspective. Enjoy.

No, that post-film depression was real. I have never really felt like I suffered from depression before or since, but for a period following the first time I saw the film it was absolutely crippling. It was a feeling like I wanted more than anything to be a part of such a world so natural and pure, and that it existed somewhere, but I would never see it in my lifetime.

I get irritated with the comparisons to other movies. Avatar is/was special. There is a clear message with Avatar that resonated with people. The fact people suffered depression after, to me feels like grief. At one time we were connected to the earth as the Na’vi are to Pandora in the movie. They are mourning the loss of the connection. I even felt it afterwards. Now that Avatar 2 is out, I teared up when I saw the world on the screen. I whispered, “Hello, Pandora. I’ve missed you.” This is an awesome analysis of the story here. Thank you .

One of the moments in this video that made me feel most emotional was the one when you said that while we are living our normal, boring, monotonous lives, people up there are living true freedom. It really made me think a lot about how much better life can be on other planets. We struggle to fit in, we're always worried about waking up at 6 AM to go to work or to school, spending half a day with people we don't like, following rules we don't agree with and living in an environment that is slowly taking our freedom away from us. While we do all that, maybe, just maybe, somewhere up there in Space, on a Planet very far away, intelligent life forms just like us enjoy life at a completely different level. Not worried about made up concepts like money, taxes, religion and politics, living life as it was given to them by nature, not having to pay for existing. And again, just maybe, some intelligent life form in Space, on a different planet, has its mind connected to a giant flying animal, riding it freely in the blue sky, wind flowing through their hair-like structures, never worrying about falling down, never worrying about having to fit in with others, never worrying about made up concepts ... Just living ...

Before this video, I hadn't quite thought about how Jake's memories of Earth and everything could have been communicated to Neytiri, and to Eywa as well, through the connection. I figure in Jake's case, he would have held back a lot, since he was hiding his secret mission and everything, but with Grace, she would have given everything when she transcended, so yeah... Ohh, yes! Finally a youtube video that doesn't trash Avatar and actually sees value in the movie of Avatar. I love Avatar since I first watched it in 2009 after my scoliosis surgery, for me everything in the movie was memorable, from well-executed story to beautiful visuals and beautiful music. I like Jake Sully as the protagonist because he is kinda like me and I love the Na'vi and Neytiri. I'm a xenophile so pleasant aliens like the Na'vi are my favorites. Since the extended version of Avatar was released (and before the extended version) I've rewatched the movie every year at least once. This movie really does show current damage of humanity and perhaps that is why many don't like the movie, people don't seem to like truth and change. As far as I am concerned, I prefer existence where values of the Na'vi are mixed with advanced space-faring technology in a harmonious mix. Eh, it's a mixed bag. There's a reason why people evolve and choose to change their behavior. I mean, even today some ingenious native tribes in Papua for example have really weird rituals, that I'm not going to discuss here, but you can read about it, which shows you that depravity and insanity is not reserved for civilized world only. Hunter gatherer societies all had strange rituals and practices, they had sacrifices, human sacrifices too; they died of diseases, so they fucked a lot and had many children so at least three of them would survive. They fought for resources, hell, even the native Americans regularly fought each other for resources and whatever reason and they lived exactly like the Na'vi. It's not the pretty picture as some people would make you believe it was. Granted, in "Avatar" the natives are very dignified and noble and we don't get to see their negative side, so it's easy to like them, but yeah, if you are able to stab an animal with a pointy stick and if you are ready to slash the throat of your enemy, like Tsu'tey was about to do, you must think why does he even know how to do that. The Na'vi surely fought each other at times.

Honestly whether or not hunter-gatherism or industrialism are better has to do with what you personally value. If you value the preservation of wildlife, egalitarian societies, and a maximum amount of leisure time, obviously hunter-gatherism is better. If you value getting to Mars, industrialism will seem better. Although it needs to be said that the destruction left behind by industrialism will ultimately benefit a privileged minority at the expense of all other lifeforms.

When I first saw Avatar in the theater, I was in complete and utter awe. I became a changed person. It had such a deep impact on me, and I felt so utterly depressed afterwards... It was like the only happiness I could experience was when I was immersed in the deep, endless jungles of Pandora, so I kept going to see it. Over and over and over again, just to experience a few hours of perfection and beauty and, in the end, the justice of finally protecting it. The movie meant everything to me, it was as if I was seeing my own personal beliefs painted on the screen before my eyes, and for all the world to see as well. I have heard every critique and complaint you can think of about this movie since then, and I have learned to stop bringing up the film at all around others because I'll undoubtedly get someone making some snarky "blue monkey" comment. But to be honest, it only reinforces in my mind what I've always felt about people. We humans are stupid and blind. I honestly don't think there is any hope for us. I wish there was with every fiber of my being, but I am so tired of being disappointed.

I am from Sri Lanka and I've always faught with people when they label us 3rd world. We are much more closer to the nature and the sustainable way of life with access to millions of edible plants and tropical fruits and a healthy fresh food culture and close family ties! I don't understand how we are seen as poor. In my eyes, the industrialized western countries are so poor! They visit our countries and awe at every plant and wildlife we've got. I just get emotional when someone looks down upon us. They are poor by heart!

Being originally born in Africa and fro the Bantu tribe, I relocated to the US for studies and later stayed but one thing struck me when I got here; The abject selfishness and greed amongst Americans, the absolute disregard for the earth and disconnection between people. Where i'm from the word "homeless" doesnt exist because everyone has a family and family takes care of family no matter the cost. I have seen families tell a member "We love you" as he was put in handcuffs and taken to jail after sentencing for minor traffic infractions and because he didnt have $1000 to pay the accumulated fines. Even with over 10 family members there, none of them thought they could come up with the money and free the kid right there and then. I left the court house that day and was unable to sleep. In my mind, I kept seeing them hug him one after the other and it occured to me how different my people are from Americans and their lifestyle. We are a lost people here and our greed is and will kill us all.

This is one of the things that , I believe, stems from the history of chattel slavery, if you are speaking of Black Americans. I was recently discussing with my husband how my southern grandmother felt it her responsibility to educate me about our history dealing with not only prejudice but systemic racism, after all 1960 was not that long ago and 1865 was less than 100 years prior to that. During slavery, enslaved people we’re encouraged to betray one another on behalf of their owners. Fathers were beaten for trying to protect their children, husbands killed for trying to protect their wives. Families actively destroyed by selling members away from one another. For HUNDREDS OF YEARS. And it is expected that all the damage done should be corrected by those who have been wronged and their descendants in a hostile environment in a short amount of time, while smiling. OK.

  • @cartooningfanart
    @cartooningfanart5 жыл бұрын

I also simpely LOVED Avatar and I cannot understand all the hate. This story has been told before yes, but a story that is being told ten times with good quality isn't a bad story, and maybe James Cameron wanted to say that this is what's going to happen if we find intelligent life out in space, maybe it's the fact that it is a well and true story that people will like considering they have liked it before. Think of movie remakes, why do we remake movies? It is so that we can show stories again, maybe with updated effects, maybe with better writing or maybe because the acting standard has been upped from what it was previously. Look at Ben-Hur, movie from 1925 was a silent film, the -59 film was a bigger production because the movie industry grew and we could have sound, now we are remaking it again. Why? Maybe because there aren't many great epics anymore at the caliber of Lawrence of Arabia, with possibly the last one being LOTR trilogy. Avatar told an old story with new technology so we could enjoy the same story we always did enjoy only with more spectacle, nothing wrong with that, if telling a story over again is so looked down upon, how on earth do we continue to adapt book after book after book instead of just writing new stories for our movies? Can't wait to see more of Pandora's story.

Seeing these scenes over, and feeling the emotions over again that they stirred in me like when I first watched this movie, I feel a yearn for death in the way you spoke of. But, it stems not from seeing a world that I could never inhabit, but rather comes from a stabbing, debilitating pain that I am a human like in the movie, which is running clearly to a path of immense self-destruction at the hands of greed and complacency. I feel like part of one of the teeth that turn one of the gears that accelerate a machine that will continue to destroy our planet with consumption and inhumane motives. I don't want to live to see more destruction by the hands of my species. I would rather die than take and take and lead the world to being minutely lost to an unrecoverable cycle of wasted energy on garbage that will pile up and pile up into mountains that permanently scar our land long before it will ever return to an organic state. things feel as bleak as ever in the big picture of civilization. I can't believe how long it's taken me to come across this video, and I must say, it's really refreshing to hear an in-depth analysis of one of my favorite movies from the perspective of someone else who really loves it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching other youtubers critique this film, but it's refreshing to hear an analysis that tries to dissect the themes Cameron tried to convey in this film rather than dig into all the cliches and plot holes that hinder it for once. You helped remind me why I love this movie.

This video is extremely well made. I myself watched avatar when it came out, I was 7 years old. For some reason ive always just "liked" avatar and I always watched in when i was younger but ofc i didnt understand these messages then. Now i am turning 18 in 1 week and i watched the movie again like 3 to 4 times over a period of a week, i was just mindblown. I instantly saw the movie for what it really is and it was beautiful. Over the period of 3 years ive undergone what you would call an "awakening". I have watched countless of videos and done research and been reading books about everything of what we as a species have become and what we actually are. I am certain the whole "universe" is a conscious being or some kind of awareness. Humanity has been lost for a very long time and this plane of existence has been either corrupted by lower vibrational entities feeding on our energy or something because we have been manipulated on profound and deep level. We have been so disconnected from reality and nature that most people today would have to take a lifetime for them to wake up and come to realise of what we are. What i think is most interesting though is in the last couples of years. Spirituality and everything associated with it has been increasing it seems. Something is definitely happening, there seems to be more and more people waking up. In just my friend circle alone me and my friends can talk about things that would have been called delusions or insanity by ordinary people not knowing anything about this stuff. Its really interesting to see someone making a video about this because it was literally on point about everything i felt about this movie.

This is pure poetry. Your video analysis is insightful and sublimely perceptive at a whole new level. I literally downloaded your video and will treat it as a podcast during my commute. Pandora gave me serious post Avatar depression, and I didn’t know why until you put these analysis into words. I was existentially depressed 13 year ago because stepping out of those theatres the contrast of all my humanist goals like getting into a prestigious school, winning my next promotion, or being liked by a group of people PALES in comparison to the meaning and depth of the Na’Vis lives. I felt silly and almost dumb - for caring about things and processes that have such shallow meaning. I realized how much my own Ego directed my decisions, rather than doing things or working on solving problems that actually bring value to the natural world. I am a full adult by Avatar 2, but the sequel release came at a perfect time in my life as I’m distancing myself farther from my own Ego, and intentionally choosing life paths that lead me closer to preservation and bringing immense communal value rather than individual enrichment. 🎉 My favorite quote “The Na’vi are an alternate version of humanity.” Adding to your words: The Na’vi are the version of humanity we could be, but corrupted ourselves when hyper efficiency and gluttonous capitalism took over naturalism and collectivism. Out there love is real. Out there freedom is real. Out there life is real.

Damn I never thought I'd tear up so much watching a movie analysis!😂 But seriously, your take on how the movie flawlessly weaves in subtle themes and symbols about humanity and consciousness was so uplifting, yet depressing at the same time. You really made me reflect on how we've lived and conquered as a species, and it really is disgusting and horrid to think about how we treat what was gifted to us by nature. Also what really intrigued me was your explanation on the universe existing as a vast inter-connected network; that concept almost gave me an entirely new way of viewing life and death because it was just that convincing. Very-well explained and makes me curious about what truly happens in the afterlife. Are we reborn? Or do our souls return to the "source" and become one with the universe? I guess we'll never know until we experience it for ourselves. Again, truly beautiful analysis on just how complex this masterpiece of a movie is👍.

For all the years I’ve been on KZread I have never left a comment until now. This video is incredible. I saw Avatar when I was very young, but I recently stumbled upon the DVD in an old collection. I decided to put it in the player and I have found a much deeper appreciation for this movie. The symbolism and deeper plot have taken on a new meaning for me. I was looking to see if someone else thought similarly to me and I left with so much more from this video. Such a fantastic analysis not only of Avatar, but of the themes presented. I especially connected with your thoughts about the deep love bond that can exist between two Na’vi. I believe that sex warps our perception of love. It’s very beautiful to believe that the Na’vi could achieve complete understanding of another. I live in a generation rampant with hook-up culture. I used to agree and participate in that hedonistic lifestyle, but realized that the pleasures are temporary. A loving relationship with another brings true happiness, which is a reward unto itself. I also find it poetic that Jake opens his eyes in the first and last scenes of movie. Symbolic of his paradigm shift.

In case it went over anyone's head, like mine when I saw this in the theater, the destruction of hometree is very much a representation of 9/11 being carried out by the american empire. Cameron, as a canadian, has a different perspective than an american filmmaker would have, and I believe the point being made is that we do 9/11 level atrocities to the rest of the world every single day.

  • @frogjackethuman781

This was so beautiful to watch, but I want to offer some different perspectives. - I feel the author is painting this picture like we did not evolve in connection with the Earth, and so now we cannot, it is too late, and all hope is lost, and how unfortunate we cannot connect like the Na'vi can. Whilst humans do not have fancy hair that can connect 'directly' with creatures and plants, we are still connected. Ask anyone who owns a cat or dog knows, it's almost like we can read each other's minds sometimes, and just a gaze with the eyes we know what is being said even if we do not speak the same language. And in my culture, instead of hair we will go outside and place our bare feet on the soil, that is our connection with the Earth, and dig our toes in a bit, and feel the pulse of the Earth. If you are still enough, you will feel it. There is no 'humans could have connected but instead we chose disconnection and now we are lost', there is only pretending we are lost. We are never lost, you cannot possibly be lost. You are made up of Earth materials, so how could you be disconnected from Earth if you are literally 100% made of Earth? If our Earth becomes like Earth in Avatar, all nature destroyed and mass air pollution and famine and disease rampant, all that means is we strayed immensely far from our connection, that's all. I'm not trying to make light of it, it's not a light matter, lives are lost due to our disconnect, but I am saying anything we create we can un-create, and the bigger the creation, the bigger the un-creation, so it's a matter of time, but we can, we always can, there is always a 2nd chance. Not easy, but simple. Again, never lost, never disconnected, only degrees of seperation. - I majorly disagree with the point that the masses are ignorant, materialistic, shallow sex-havers instead of genuine lovers, etc. I think that's an outdated viewpoint as of the 2000's. I see tons of evidence people care all around the world. For every greedy CEO you can point to, I believe there's a Bill Gates, someone who's dedicating his wealth to tackling major humanitarian challenges. And do no underestimate the will and actions of the everyday people. Re-usable grocery bags, getting rid of straws, electric cars, growing our own food in the backyard, van life, solar energy, veganism, minimalism, reclaiming of spirituality instead of religion, popularity in research and understanding of Ayahuasca, even just the fact that Avatar made such a huge box office killing, if you ask me people are waking up all over the world at an alarming rate. And to those who say 'it's not enough' or 'that small effort doesn't count', a tree always starts as a sprout, have gratitude for the growing sprout, protect it, nurture it, these things take time, you cannot go from seed to tree. Yes our past is bloody and quite materially driven, but every day is a new day, and with it a new choice, and I think people are sick of the same old same old death war and meaningless consumerism. I really like the point about Eywa hearing Jake's call and sending the fauna to attack the machines, because guess what, I can assure you if humans really were that evil on this Earth, Mother Earth would mount an autoimmune defense against us too. This is why I'm personally not worried about the 'collective level of evil' amongst humans and instead I'm just focused on living my own best life, because if we ever truly tipped too much in the wrong direction, Mother Earth will gently correct us, or, if need be, boot us completely. Here's what I was taught. Mother Earth has given birth to many children, humans of all different bodies and talents, and also other fauna and flora. We are made of her, so we cannot possibly be disconnected from her. She loves us unconditionally as a mother loves her child unconditionally. She cries when we are in pain, she looks on in disappointment when we dig up parts of her body to convert into useless items, and she gets angry when her children kill each other pointlessly. But she is always there, supporting us, cheering us on, wanting the best for us. If you ever want to feel the Original Mother, go outside and put your bare feet on the soil. Then climb a tree and feel the bark. Put your feet in the sand. In the water. And wiggle your toes each time. Ditch shoes whenever you can because they encourage disconnect. You are never an orphan, she is always there. If you are lonely, seek her out. Ask her to give you a sign, and be open to what happens. Earth, like Pandora, is magical, but we just have to be open enough to receiving its magic, and we don't need to be a tribal person or have fancy hair to receive.

It brought me back to my Ayahuasca experience, where I was invited to see myself as a cell of a massive organism, as well as so many other aspects that were emphasized in this video (the white light/tunnel, different layers of reality, connection to an absolute intelligence/nature etc). those haters only hate it because it beat their boring superhero movies. they really don't look into the depth of the plot of Avatar. they just love to hate. and their narrative that avatar is just those 3 films? as if superhero movies are original. duh. they also claim that this movie has no cultural impact like Star wars, Lord of the Rings, harry Potter etc., but they also claim it's overrated. How is that even possible? overrated yet no cultural impact? No matter what they say about this movie, *i love it! it sends a deeper message. it's not just about 'blue monkey-cats in another planet'* as they claim it to be. Also, the "it has no memes" is just plain stupid and shallow. they measure a movie's success by amount of memes it has? LMAO Memes is an indication that a movie is not serious and just for entertainment only. *AVATAR is known for its serious themes like wars, environmentalism, spirituality, colonialism etc which clearly can't make any memes out of it unlike Superhero movies which are for KIDS can literally make thousands of memes* These TOXIC MCU KIDS are just too shallow for a Movie like Avatar.

It's such a shame, that the real meaning of the movie, the message, is supressed with negative criticism. Most of those, who review this movie are probably "blinded" in way that they only see the CG magic and the incredible man hours that went into this. They don't get the symbolism, don't appreciate the subtle details. And the devil is in the details as they say... They just see this as "another empty love story", but in reality, it redefined everything, personally as well. And finally someone, who reflected on the score as well. And the score is, how shall I put it... FUCKING AWESOME. It's a story by itself. Horner really should have won an Oscar for this. He deserves it. When I came out of theater I felt i was punched in the face. I was speechless. I have never cried in front of a movie screen before. And as someone, who is into CG... This movie destroys EVERYTHING. I mean the thing is animated to the smallest detail... The small tracers in the battle scene, and the fluid simulation in the scene when Jake jumps off a cliff into a waterfall, godddam that fluid simulation is perfect. And let's not forget this was in 09'... I just can't imagine the man hours that went into this. Man, you did an excellent job in ripping the movie apart, you did a truly deep, comprehensive review. Thank you.

so i was feeling semi depressed for years since watching this movie for the first time 10 years ago, of course we all wish that we could be a part of the world, namely an avatar in the tribe able to connect to nature mentally and physically but also how amazing it must be to also go through that journey, and I must say this is the most well made and truly informative analysis I have ever witnessed. I was checking the time remaining of this 49 minute video and felt the same sort of sadness when it was getting close to finished just like I was sad when Avatar ended. Thank you so... sooo much for your efforts as this video is truly inspiring and was exactly what I was looking for as a follow up to not only explain the film over again but experience it over again as you went through each part with the scenes I remember vividly. Truly a work of art both this film and this hour of excellent explanations on the exact emotions I was feeling to myself but unsure if anyone else had this deep of emotions towards it because I never hear many people in my own life rewatching and explaining this film together down to perfection like this.
