    Well i was at local dealer yesterday and i see myself the Ioniq single motor RWD - long range battery (310 miles ~ 500 km) is more affordable than dual motor (around 43.000 $) also single motor ioniq 5 has a bigger deeper space boot in front to get like 2 backpacks and a deep cooled glove-box.. Ioniq cabin also feels more simple smart & clever, Bz4x is just spacious but complicated, not all spaces are practical & usable as in Ioniq 5, otherwise cool comparison..

    I've had my Ioniq 5 Limited trim for about a month. When charging to 100%, estimated range usually is around 300 miles. Once it showed 314. When charging to 90% and using eco mode, range is 280+. Eco mode uses just rear wheel drive; normal mode uses rear wheel and adds front wheel as needed; sport mode uses AWD all the time. A problem for me with the door handles - I sometimes forget to lock the doors when I walk away ( I used to have a Tesla and walking away automatically locked the doors). All four door handles stick out when not locked, advertising to the world that anything in the car is free for the taking. The car is otherwise wonderful. Just don't try to read the owner's manual and expect to get anything useful. The translation is horrible/hilarious and the content is poorly laid out. Watch the videos instead

    If you are going to compare price, try comparably equipped vehicles. Starting price on an Ioniq 5 is $41,450: less than the comparable bZ4X. Even that is not areal comparison. The slow charging, short real range bZ4X is a town car or second car at best. The Ioniq 5 is an all around vehicle fit for commuting or travel.

    @@EVPulse Yes, I understand that: do the best you can with what you've got. I did not mean to criticize your comparison as you did explain the difference in trim levels and gave a fair review. My objection was only to the piece at about the 11:30 mark which seemed to characterize the bZ as a less featured, but more affordable option when in fact an Ioniq 5 with comparable or superior features can be had for the about the same or maybe less money. In my opinion, there is no trim level where a bZ4X is a better option in anything but subjective appearance points. It's really a primitive EV for this time. Thank you for the review and response!

The door handles have been stellar even in the cold and ice. The HUD works perfectly and the fast charging gets up to 245 no problem. The one grip I have with the vehicle is that it doesn't auto lock when walking away. Today this should be a standard feature. 80% of the bZ4X's shipped to the US are AWD, not FWD, and those of us in northern states basically cannot get the FWD, because they just aren't allocated to the northern states. The fastest I have ever personality seen the bZ4X AWD charge is 50-60 kW, and Kyle at Out of Spec only managed around 80 kW peak. It is pretty sad when my bZ4X at low state of charge was getting 53 kW on a 150 kW fast charger while the half full Bolt next to it was still getting 47 kW.

I really, really don't understand, we are very happy with the BZ. 10 years warranty Small battery pack, so not an obese weight, 200 up to 400kg less than competition; Very quit, comfortable and solid build; Yes, you cann't fast charge the battery like the competition, with a reason.....it gives the battery much more reliability and longer life.; This Toyota is build to last more than 10, 15 years.... . The computition has only the lease period in mind, 5 or 6 years or so, total different approach. So yes, we are happy with the Bz4x, far better car than the Model Y Tesla in our business fleet. Because Japan is lagging behind in battery technology. BZ4X uses Chinese batteries. In China, the LFP method is ahead in low-cost batteries, but Korea is ahead in batteries that require NCM technology. BZ4X uses Chinese NCM batteries, so it doesn't have China's strengths, Japan's reliability, or Korea's technology.

    Great review and comparison. Having the range buffer does sound like it can be very beneficial and the Hyundai does seem to make a really solid EV. Do you know if there is any data on average EV usage in terms of exceeding a radius from where you live or work? Just curious if the lower range EVs work perfectly well despite what many think about needing the extra range for road trips or whatever. I think it was on AoA that I heard he knew someone with a Tesla model S that had only ever used a Supercharger or DCFC once in so many years of ownership. Is the range/charging issue just that blown out of proportion?

  • @EVPulse

    @EVPulse

    It's a complicated question. 80% of people, according to JD Power, charge exclusively at home or work. And like most people, EV owners drive to home and work a lot and not a lot of road trips. We fixate a lot on fast charging and public infrastructure because it's terrible and needs to be better, but most people aren't driving hundreds of miles at a time.

  • @thekat-dg9fx

    The 20% who may occasionally drive longer distances, even if it's just once or twice a year, need to know that the bZ4X is not just a relatively slow road tripper, but actually unable to road trip beyond 400-500 miles at present in North America, because after 2 cycles of fast charging in 24 hours (a cycle is 10-80%), it significantly throttles fast charging. Toyota buries this in a footnote in their online FAQ, but don't spell it out in the manual, and salesmen don't know about this limit until their customers tell them. This is a problem.

    How can you compare an Ioniq 5 Limited versus a BZ4X XLE when the Limited version compares much better?! I can charge my BZ4X Limited (with the new software update) from 10-80% in a much shorter time! I can understand if you want a better comparison for the Ioniq 5 but I'm tired of people putting BZ4X down. This video is a perfect example, comparing a Limited model versus an XLE. Ive also observed that most reviews use the BZ4X prior to the software update. If you want a better comparison, use a Limited v Limited with the software update. Additionally, the BZ4X Limited has 20" wheels, not 18's! Lastly, the software update allows for a mileage increase to 242 miles from about 200 prior to the update. If you're going to do a comparison, how about making both vehicles on par!

    There are some other issues with the bz4x suspension system too, which are not immediately apparent. If you run into a curb, this thing is gonna get messed up badly. I once run my bz4x by a fairly low curb, driving 27 mph, and that knocked the steering column off center. They had to re-alight three wheels, for only one of them touching the curb. I mean seriously! The charging issue is a real problem. It pulls much lower power than any car I happen to park next, and it limits the charging to two times a day, which ruined my first long trip, and made me hate this freaking car.

The mini panel and steering wheel combo is an ugly design and the wheel shaft elephant trunk like cover will be hard to keep clean. The back seat is very uncomfortable with hardly any padding or contour and very short bottom leaving yours hanging in the air. Very little storage in the back with the sharply angled rear window. The ride was good in the front. Center display was nice. It really looks like a rebranded Lexus and does not seem to reflect the image that Subaru has cultivated over the years. I would not take it on back roads. I don't see it holding it's resale value well. We have a Forester and been happy with the brand and were looking for an EV but this is very disappointing. I was very impressed by the EV6 interior layout, front seat area, but the Subaru/Toyota is just a cluttered mess.

    Toyota: Did a good job on the BZ4X, yes they did. So good they had to pull it off the market. Charging is fantastic ... for 2017. Does it even have battery preconditioning? Kind of important. Hate the big bar across the middle of the panoramic roof rendering it a non-panoramic roof. Hyundai: Their customers are guinea pigs for their software. Battery heater and heat pump did not provide sufficient battery heating - resulted in poor winter charging and many complaints.. Battery preconditioning was finally applied to the old 2022 trims that have battery heaters ... after over a full year in the hands of their customers. Very quiet. Very comfortable. HDA (highway driving assist) is pretty good but nowhere near Tesla's full self-driving. Charging speed is fantastic due to the 800V system. An actual panoramic roof with interior power blinds to block the sun when necessary. Summary: Unfair comparison since you could've chosen a rear-wheel drive spec'd Ioniq 5 version instead of the Limited. The Ioniq 5 is typically compared with the Tesla Model Y. The Toyota BZ4X is more in line with the new 2024 Kona EV. That would be a logical comparison.

    The bz4x is hot garbage from a company that can't even decide if EVs are a nonsense fad, or if Toyota's destiny is to have the best technology exactly 2 years from whatever year or is right now. The Ioniq is such a more serious vehicle.

    The BZ4X is arguably one of the worst EVs available today. The Ioniq 5 is arguably one of the best… what is this and how much money did Toyota give you?

    Ioniq 5 is garbage!! The warranty coverage sucks! And expensive too. I got for Toyota BZ4!
