HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 First Drive - could this be the electric car of the year? | Fully Charged CARS

SUBSCRIBE, LIKE & SHARE if you want Clean Energy & Electric Vehicles to be the norm.
We're at a top secret location, with something really special - the Hyundai Ioniq 5 - and this hotly anticipated electric car doesn't disappoint.
It looks gorgeous, cool and smooth to drive, but it's sophisticated electronics and software that really make the Ioniq stand out. An inverter system allows you to boost charging and the car comes with a plug adaptor that you can charge pretty much anything from, including another car!
Built as an EV and resembling a 'hatchback on steroids', the Ioniq 5 is extraordinary and will be incredibly popular when it launches at the end of this year.

From a filming perspective, can I suggest that the camera stays on the car. When Robert opened the boot/trunk, I was fully expecting to see it open... instead the camera stayed resolutely on Robert. I mean, I realise he's very photogenic and the camera just loves him... but so is the Ionic!

good video , but car is behind specs and expectations charging curve is underperforming and does not make it to 80 % in 18 minutes, just 66% the trunk is not 531 Liter cause then the car has to be used and tested with rear bank and seats in front position. In the rear position the trunk is around 400 liter only. They lost space somehow even though they had such a long wheelbase - for nothing. The dashboard instrument cluster suffers from sunlight from the side cause it has no hood. Pretty disappointing and no need for 800V if I can not find the benefits.

One thing I love about the EV revolution is how brave the designers are becoming. I'm used to seeing incredible concept cars only for the real thing to end up just another disappointing update of the previous model... now it's like the designers have been told to go wild and when they come up with an idea, they just build it.

Except affordability of course. They'd have more people driving electric vehicles if they didn't expect things such as fenders to cost consumers a 1000 dollars for a 10 dollar amount of injection molded plastic. They could try offering 2 flavors of the same car, Affordable, and Showing Off To The Jones's Next Door As Per Usual!

The thing with EVs is there are so few technica restrictions. want the drive in the back, technically irrelvant so costs the same. you put the "corners" in the actual corners if you want. you want the motors on the wheels in the corners, no problem. Six whell drive? sure, how many motors you want? 3?4?5?6? tank turning? thats just a software setting.

Thinking about it, an ICE concept car may be "fantastic", then they put it in the wind tunnel and find the airflow around the engine, or the underside is compromised..... Meaning major changes are required. Much of that problem goes away with an EV. (Example, the i-pace nose) Result, clean lines, similar to the concept

That first sentence you wrote is $pot on. They want money to make the world go around remaining their obvious incentive far moreso than the claim that they care about protecting the planet. It's like buying a tensor bandage at a dollar store for a dollar, or buying the 'same thing made from the same material with the same velcro fasteners' for 100 bux at a medical supply store. Atlas the robot would work diligently without a paycheque, though would the billionaires that use robotics making cars pass those giant savings on to the consumer or pour the money into creating other profit streams?

@@MG_Steve idk? The top spec ioniq 5 already is around 4.9s 0-60. I know the hyundai sheet says 5.2s 0-62mph, but Johnny from the late brake show already got 5.1s on his test drive. So since that time currently matches up very well against the mach e4x er and the tesla model y lr awd. Maybe hyundai doesn't care so much about going after the under 4s 0-60 crowd? Otherwise the model y performance, Kia ev6gt and the about to be released mach e gt. All have it beat quite handily for acceleration anyway. 🤔 It's interesting that the Korean twins have the v2l feature. Which even as an option is something Ford, tesla&vw can't match. Although vw claims all id series bevs by next year will offer v2l capabilities. And elon hinted at tesla enabling something like that in the near future. Which was interesting because he also claimed the original roadster offered v2l. And the upcoming cybertruck will offer a 240v outlet in the bed to run tools etc with. Then hyundai has the solar roof option for the ioniq 5, which I haven't seen anyone since fisker with the og karma offer as an option. This is something more manufacturer's should offer imo. As it might actually help some with range anxiety in sunnier climates where people don't often have access to a garage. Supposedly it can ad 100 or more miles of range monthly.
